...get Bielema fired on the spot?   I'm not saying that is going to occur, but stranger things have happened (under BB's watch).  Sadly I have pretty much lost all faith in this coaching staff.

Nope, he and JL will just talk about film, a play here or there and GPA.
sometimes it's a good and some times it's a schit

HawgTrough

I think we'll win, but I'm afraid we'll need to make a play in the 4th to seal it.

Wouldn't losing to NMSU be some kind of violation of the morals clause ???

What has happened stranger than losing to NMSU? Toledo was at least a good mid D1 team. NMSU is not.

tbhogfan

No.  There would be some conversation about eventually getting breaks, and how great the concessions are at RRS and what a great show they put on, how they have hashtags for social media, and how there are things more important than winning, like luxury boxes.

Sunday afternoon/evening the termination would be drawn up, but the presser would be Monday (10-2-17).

...but that's not going to happen.  We win this one easily.

Only if it pisses off the Money Men enough to write a fat azz check.

I think Bielema safe through the end of next season, regardless of record.  The only way he goes is if he somehow violates his moral turpitude clause (doubtful), or leaves on his own (might happen, but still doubtful).
11/19/2023:  Keeping my original semi-prophetic, apocalyptic signature below.  We continue to regret passing on Norvell, who is in the running for the Playoffs.  We continue regret passing on Kiffin, who is eyeing a New Years 6 game.  Heck, we regret passing on Drinkwitz (he may be a dork, but he will have his team in a New Years 6 game after they truck us on Black Friday).

Meanwhile, Sam is drinking Pittman, wondering if he has the leverage to re-hire Enos, Sexton is doing the triple Lindy into his Olympic-size pool full of cash, and thousands of hog fans are planning to dress up as empty seats for next year's Halloween game.

11/25/2018:  My original "Chad Morris" signature is below.  I'm modifying my view as follows:  We will continue to regret passing on Norvell and Kiffin.   After 3 years, when Morris is 10-26, we are going to be saying "What were we thinking?  Even Bert was better than this!"

hogsanity

on the spot? no. at the end of the season, quite possibly because a loss to NMSU likely leads to a 4 win season.

Of course not. Smile wasn't fired immediately after ULM or any of his other many embarrassing acts that season. We are stuck with Bielema for at least another couple of months.

We could lose out and it still be in the realm of probability that BB keeps his job.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Hasn't he already done that by losing to A & M five years in a row?

Might wanna do a little research on NMSU.  They aren't bad this year.  If we sleep walk into this game, take them for granted, play with our heads up our asses...we could very easily lose.

Just that possibility would get fans worked up into such a fervor that Combover Gov himself would most likely have to intervene to ensure Bielema was not retained, but....

It's not going to happen.  Our guys have the talent, and the pride to win handily.  NMSU is much better than what they have been in the past, but there is no way we shouldn't cover and then some.  Coaches aside our kids are ready to deliver a beat down to just about anyone.  They showed last week that they still have some fight left in them.  After playing A&M, NMSU will appear to be running in quicksand in comparison.  My hope is that if they do win big they don't relax thinking all is well but rather still play like they have something to prove from here on out.

NM State might be better than you think.  They were 24 point underdogs to AZ State and only lost that game by 6.  Last I saw, were only 17 point favorites.  We might very well beat the snot of out them, but sadly I could see us struggle and give the game away too.

Losing after having a two touchdown lead at Rutgers.  Losing at home to Texas Tech, including scoring 24 points on the worst defense we saw that year.  Beating La Tech at home by one point in year four.  Losing to a 3-8 Mizzou team after leading 24-7, blowing two touchdown leads three different times against Texas A&M.  Should I go on?

Oh horse crap. He'd be fired at the end of the year.

Hawgphat

I don't know diddly about inner sanctum college football head coach replacement motivations and procedural tendencies; - - but it is my wholly unqualified opinion that if Bielema was a cat, he might have already relinquished seven or eight of his lives at the Arkansas helm - - - and may very well now be down to his remaining one or two.

A thoroughly-embarrassing loss to NMSU  would certainly not improve his status situation.

I simply don't know what motivational factor JL or the program power brokers respond to with more of a sense of urgency.

they are a 2-2 team, that is currently in last place in the mighty Sun Belt, we should win by 3 touchdowns

Agree. Our line backers apparently miss read their keys at times, but the effort and fight appeared to be there.

No!  You have to remember that "IF" we beat NMS this Saturday it will be and upset.  They have a better Coach than we do and have IMO the best player on the field in their primary receiver, since we can't seem to develop a decent pass rush on the opposing QB we'll be looking at a long day Saturday unless we can just outscore them.

Are we as talented as Tennessee?  How about as well coached?  They barely beat an 0-4 UMass team at home last week.  NMSU is better than UMass.

You're right of course, but how insane is that?  I mean, 15 million dollars now, 11 million at the end of the season?  For a sub .500 coach?

Good grief!  What the hell are we talking about here?  How in freaks sake did we end up here?  Because he beat Texas?  Who the hell didn't beat Texas when Strong was there?!

122 ranked defense after 3 years.  We have no [CENSORED] shot whatsoever, and to say we do is delusional man.  If he was anything more than a great OC, his defense would have improved.  He's no head coach.

I'm normally a positive person, but damn it!  26-28 in year five!  What coach at a big time program, with this kind of record is secure in his job?  11-15 million reasons why he won't get fired.  This is absolute b.s.!  I've been a huge CBB fan and even bigger Jeff Long fan, but that ship has sailed.

Grateful for the program cleanup, but sick and damn tired of hearing how "close" we are!  Win, or else man up and resign so someone else can give it a shot.  Don't hide behind a buyout you don't deserve.

I know some of you are clamoring for a firing, but a firing 4 games into the season??  That is the kind of thing a desperate program does...and it usually doesn't recover quickly from it.  It's not like we can fire him and interview coaches for the remainder of the season.  Anyone we'd want to hire is probably busy until the end of the year.

I get the frustration, but firing 1/3 into the season would not be good.  Maybe not as damaging as wrecking your bike with your girlfriend on the back, then having an inept interim coach for a year...but still pretty damaging.

DeltaBoy

I am resigned to the fact the AD might get canned but CBB is going to be here for sure though the 2018 season.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

I really, REALLY hope we win this one, but I'll go far as to say that if we don't win this game by at least 10 points, then Bielema will probably get the boot. I just can't see the boss hogs sitting back saying, "Woo Pig, look at that result. We done beat 'em by a touchdown, that a boy Bret, that a boy!!!!" If the final score is like 28-21 or 28-24 or even 45-38, I just can't see them saying this is okay.....if they do, this program is doomed to become the next Vanderbilt/Kentucky.

Nope, but it could get an assistant coach fired....

We have got through the interim goal deal and that was a disaster.

I don't think a loss to NM State gets the coach fired but it would make certain that all the home games would be played in a mostly empty stadium

buldozer

We should win easily but if we didn't, CBB would still not be fired. The days of having a strong AD that would take quick decisive action like that was over when Frank left. But he should be fired on the spot if he loses this game.

Yeah, NMSU is not close to being a weak enough opponent that would get the coach fired the next day.  They lost by less than a TD to Arizona State, who upset Oregon.
