I personally wish him the worst of luck, but then again, you make your own luck and Hootie is always once bounce away.  What would the Ole Miss faithful do if Hootie would have harassed and then ran off #1 rated QB in the country?  Good luck Ole Miss you have no idea what you are in for.  Its just sad that Ole Miss games are not ever on TV.  I would really like to see the smoke draw on a 3 & 16 for the 3rd time in the 2nd Quarter, and then it will be funny when all the fueled up Ole Miss frat kids start raining down their flasks and EMPTY whiskey bottles on the field.

Yeah, and watch his team beat #1 LSU @ Baton Rouge, #2 Auburn @ Auburn, have 8 winning seasons out of 10, a 75-48 record (have you seen their record over the past 10 years?---not exactly great).

I know he didn't get us to a bowl game and his SEC record is just above .500, but you guys acting like he's a horrible coach are going to have another thing coming with him at Ole Miss.

Like I said earlier, we will not have the success against Ole Miss that we've had with him as coach here.  His team will beat Arkansas several times when they shouldn't and ruin our chances at a better-than-average season.  You just wait and see.

Master B

Of course this clown will treat our game like the NC game each.  Thats fine b/c Nutty is a horrible coach.  Please don't forget his record over the last 4 years against ranked opponents, 4-17.  He might get Ole Miss on a national TV game from time to time, but he will also get them embarrassed on National TV every time.

Donny2665

It will be business as usual, except he may be able to make a game out of it once every 4 years, if he last that long.

MM and DW are to be lauded as Arkansas sports heroes for their overall contribution, not just on the playing field during one season, but also for the sacrifices that they made which ensured the dismantling of the Frank Broyles machine.

Will you cheer for them when we play Ole Miss next year???

It's almost like the huggers and darksiders have reversed roles. The huggers will be flying banners next year calling for HDN to return to his "dream job."

This past year, my wife & I sat in the end zone during the Ole Miss game at Oxford. I cheered for the hogs and she cheered for Ole Miss. I threatened to make her walk home until an ole miss fan behind us said he would give her a ride home in his truck (he added she would have to ride in the back though).

I'll cheer for the razorbacks against ole miss next year, but if we have to lose a game, that would be the one I hope.

If Nutt goes to Ole Miss, could that be the next big rivalry?  Especially if TT comes to the hill.  And to add....I will always want Arkansas to win...whoever they play!!!!

But will he put a fence up around Mississippi?

Also, how could he do all that for Ole Miss anyway? I keep hearing how bad everything is there that they have three D-1 football schools, splitting the fanbase, etc.

Surely that has to be a problem since it would be such a problem in Arkansas if we ever played ASU.

I hope he does....I can smell it from Little Rock! ;)

I'm sorry, did you say, "fighting over recruits"?

Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!

You guys fail to realize (or at least acknowledge) the situation that he came into and where he has taken us since.  If Ole Miss goes 7-5, 8-4, 9-3, it means they have 5, 6, or 7 more wins than they've had over the past couple of years and I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of those wins come against Arkansas.  He can turn them around there just like he did us, and that scares me.

Too bad they already have a rival in Mississippi State. Oregeron got fired for the decisions he made in the egg bowl.

I dont think we are gonna be fighting for the Love the Helmet Trophy?

If Houston goes to Ole Miss, forget LSU, forget Texas, the Rebels will be our rival.  Bordering states, a former coach leading them, fighting over recruits.  This could get good.

And Ole Miss will be good.  Don't they have quite a few D1 prospects in their state every year?  Just convince them to stay in state and beat out MSU (no problem there) and that might be a good team.  Look for Nutt to bring Ole Miss to the level Arkansas is at now.  Just makes the SEC that much more difficult.

Whoever wins gets to keep Nutt . It could be called the testicle bowl.

Why turn down a deal for 2.4 mil at UA for 1.9 mil at Ole Miss?  Doesn't sound right.

are we not suppose to beat Aub or LSU every now and then?  f, our whole backfield is going to the NFL, not to mention probably 2 more lineman.  We also had 11 seniors on this team with Dmac and Jones, and we went 4-4 in the SEC.  I can't believe how quickly everyone forgets about the games at the beginning of the season.  How about the sick feeling from the Kent game?  Oh wait, you huggers don't go to or watch the games.

well (sniff), he felt it was time (sniff) to bring the fanbase (sniff) back together (sniff sniff).  And Mr. White did (hack) unlock those golden handcuffs (puke) that were keeping him here.

YEAH BABY!!!

Lots of schools calling, in talks with Ole Miss. If it is Ole Miss, it should be done today.

To get wins he'll have to get his cupcake schedule in place.  That will take at least 3 years, he'll do this immediately.  He take Memphis and Missouri off their schedule and replace them with Div 2 schools.  And that will probably be about all he can do to help the rebels.  He also get the chance to recruit against Miss St, So Miss, and Memphis year in and year out.  He couldn't even get the kids that wanted to be Razorbacks, ie Burns, Mallet, MM, Williams, etc.

Why did we pay [NAME REDACTED] 3.5 million to take an SEC job next door to us?

I look forward to our Hogs pounding him on a yearly basis.   Especially if Gus is on our sideline.

Looks like we'll need an annual Ole Miss Banner fund too ;)

This could become a fun rivalry.

Not when they're ranked #1 and #2, respectively.  We were unranked and playing in their stadiums.  I can't believe you people acting like 3-4 guys are going to beat whole teams.  We do not have more talent as a team, overall, than does Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, even South Carolina.  $hit, I'm pretty sure Ole Miss has out-recruited us (according to rankings) over the past couple of years.   At least, that's what the recruiting rankings (that people like to bring up as a strike against Houston Nutt) say.  So, either Houston Nutt did a much better job recruiting than you guys give him credit for, or he does more with less every year.  Are you going to tell me that we were more talented than LSU, as a team?

BartIV

Late last night Houston Nutt signed a contract with Ole Miss worth a lot of money. A whole lot.
9 million.  I don't know over how many years yet.

Legalsax

I wouldn't worry about the Warren or Camden Fairview recruits going to Ole Miss just to follow Nutt. Nutt's history with recruiting Warren sucks and those kids decided to come to Arkansas because of "Arkansas" not Nutt. They may go elsewhere now if there is uncertainty in the program or an unknown named as coach, but not there. As someone who grew up in SEArkansas there is no special feeling for Mississippi down there... quite the contrary actually.

It is certainly possible that they will take a second look at Tenn, Auburn or Texas... which would be unfortunate.

It is also being reported that MsFadden and Jones will not play in the bowl game because they are upset over Nutt's departure . . . can anyone confirm this?  I just heard it on the Buzz, so I am taking it for what it is worth

Daily Journal quote:

Ole Miss wide receiver Mike Wallace did not immediately embrace the idea of Nutt as head coach, but he supported the opportunity to win.

"I think (Arkansas) had a real good offense for the players they have, but I don't think that offense would fit the players we have," said Wallace, who had six touchdown catches this season. "But it's not just about throwing the ball. I really want to win. Coach O tried to get it done, but it just didn't
happen for us when he was here."

I for one am glad he got the Ole Miss job.  It will be fun to watch Gus Malzahn and the Arkansas Razorbacks kick his a$$ year after year.  Ok, mybe I am dreaming a little bit about the Gus part but we'll still kick their a$$.

I think this will happen.  I don't really blame them.  They are worth millions right now. If they get injured in a bowl game, that would be bad.

McFadden and Jones would both be wise not to play in the bowl game.  They would be gambling with millions of dollars in pro money that they wouldn't get hurt.

A guy just called in on the Buzz that is listening to a radio show out of Memphis.  Apparently, Jimmy Sexton was on the show talking about the possibility of Nutt to Ole Miss and said that it was basically a done deal and a press conference was called for 5 o'clock this afternoon to announce it.  Archie Manning is even rumored to be the one to introduce Houston as the next coach at Ole Miss

BartIV

Jimmy Sexton says its a done deal at 5 pm today.

Not a good decision.  That will make them look really good in the eyes of the NFL.  NFL coaches getting fired is a way of life.  This will make them look like they will want to quit whenever their NFL coach is fired.

Watching channel 11 news last night it became obvious to me Nutt knew he was gone at LSU.

1. He never even finished the words to the after game fight song and started walking off before it was over.
2. Nutt had a very grim look on his face when he was walking off the field. No high fives or usual antics.
3. Nutt looked completely tore up at the presser.
4. The amount of money being paid to a resigning coach if unheard of.

I believe that Nutt did not want to go. So who finally pulled the trigger and why did Nutt agree? Obviously the money was one big issure. Getting 3.5 mil and his new salary.

JUST IN NUTT AT OL MISS PER KTHV @ LITTLE ROCK

ScotchHog

It's not a bad move for Nutt.
Unlike Arkansas, Ole Miss will have a lot of good players next year.

I wonder if people realize just how devoid our program is of talent.  Nutt didn't even try his last three years.  He gave up on recruiting during the Matt Jones era.  He was lucky that Arkansas just happens to be a one-school-state, and players grow up wanting to be a Razorback, no matter what.  Darren and Peyton wouldn't have gone anywhere else.  The Springdale players followed Malzahn here (a masterstroke by Nutt).  I'll give him credit for Felix, but I think Felix just wanted to make his own name outside of Oklahoma and he knew that Arkansas was a run-heavy offense.
I'll be surprised if we are 3-9 next year.
And I will be thrilled with that record.  All that matters is that Nutt is gone.  I can handle losing.  I couldn't handle any more Dorkahontas.

Not playing the bowl would hurt them in the draft. They'll play.
