If they lose, we will lose Georgia's at large BCS bid because they must play one more game.  Also, Kentucky would have the same record as us and they beat us, so they will get consideration over us.  Tennessee needs to hang on to this!

I think a Arkansas vs. Texas or Oklahoma game is to much to pass up for the Cotton Bowl reps.  Warren's Ricardo Kemp just made a big play to maybe save the game for TN.

Tennessee with the interception only 4:30 left in the game.  I think the Cotton Bowl wants Arkansas in Broyles's final year as AD with a matchup against Texas.

donk

great play by an Arkansas HS player(Ricardo Kemp) may have saved the day for UT

Cotton will take Arkansas if there is any way to get them.  Fans = money.  We supply the fans to Dallas.  Don't worry folks, we may not have a coach, but money talks.  The fans will take this team to the cotton bowl.

Dallas loves Arkansas fans to much.
We WILL go Cotton. I would rather not, because I couldn't care less about another matchup against Texas or Oklahoma, but that's where we'll be.

Arkansas may mean money, but so does Tennessee or Florida.   They're the teams that are going to be squeezed down to the Cotton competition, if KY wins today.

Do you honestly think that Florida fans will travel as well as Arkansas fans?  The Cotton Bowl means nothing to Florida fans as they don't have the historic ties and they are about a thousand miles further away from Dallas.  Tennessee could potentially land in the Cotton Bowl, but I think it would be a coin flip between Arkansas and Tennessee.  You might not realize this, but Arkansas will have the same record as Tennessee and, surprisingly, could very well be ranked higher.

I agree that for most programs, the Cotton Bowl is a consolation prize and a let down.  For us, with the historic meaning and the chance to play either Texas or Oklahoma, I think a lot of fans won't be as upset as if we wound up in some other second tier bowl.

Considering we had to return a handful of our last Cotton Bowl ticket allotment, and that Florida hasn't had to return any from any bowl allotment they've had since the Galen Hall era,  yes.

Considering Florida has either played in a BCS Bowl or a Bowl in their home state, or a neighboring state (Peach Bowl once) since 1992, I think that is a loaded statistic.

Considering that we're closer to Dallas than Gainesville is to Atlanta, and we still can't sell tickets to one of our *best* bowl appearances at 100%,  the statistic is indeed loaded-- it shows they travel better.

Don't worry the GOBN will get us in Dallas for JFB's final game eventhough it'll be a day late and a dollar short.  It'll be day 1 as the former AD but there's Hog connections on the Cotton Bowl BOT plus Jerry Jones will walk in and say Arkansas vs Texas or Arkansas vs OU.  He'll need another closeup view of his future running back.  I know I'm talking out of my azz but that's how the good ole boy network works.

That's a dumb thing to say, but since you're the one throwing it out there...courtesy of Google Maps:

Fayetteville, AR to Dallas, TX:
332 mi – about 5 hours 27 mins

Gainesville, FL to Atlanta, GA:

Do you hear yourself?  With the offensive weapons we have and the cupcake schedule, to even think the Cotton is worth the trip is silly.  Who cares?

Hootie stays because he gets a win over a Texas school in the Cotton Bowl Game?  No thanks.

Nice try, but wrong.

Here's something for you to chew on:

Right.  Cap One gets Georgia, most likely, and Outback likely gets TN or FL;  we're competing with the one that doesn't go there.  If Georgia wins the SEC CG,  we're still competing against those two, as Cap One gets LSU.

You just pwn3d yourself.  You dug around for a statistic that fit your argument, but didn't even read their criteria.

Quoting the website that you cited me to: "The following table lists all cities with populations over 50,000 that are within 350 miles of Gainesville, FL (highlighted in blue) and their distances in statute miles (straight-line) from that city.  In addition, other major metropolitan cities are shown for comparative purposes. "

So I guess you are right if you plan on strapping up to the back of an eagle and flying to the game, I suppose you are right.  For the rest of us commoners that are driving to the game, I'll trust something based on highway mileage.  Again, this is a dumb argument that you're making, but since you're the one that brought it up...

This is one heck of a game.  UK hasn't beat TN in 22 years and It's not looking like it's going to happen today!

ErieHog

You have no concept of what area means, versus driving distance, do you?   I'll spell it out in very small words for you-- most of our fan base resides in the NWA area, an area that is closer to Dallas than the ticket base of Florida is to Atlanta.   We have a massively more imposing alumni presence in the Dallas area than Florida does in the Atlanta area.

When Florida plays in the *worst* bowl of the last 15 years they attended, they still manage to sell *every* ticket.   When we play in the Cotton Bowl, our 2nd best bowl appearance in past 20 years,  we can't even sell out our allotment, despite being closer *and* having a better local alumni base in the destination city.

Again, RMPL.

That's a terrible penalty.  The Kentucky guy tackles the guy returning the blocked kick by his facemask and Tennessee's RB gets upset at getting stopped and they enforce it.  Oh well, didn't matter, Ainge threw a 40 yarder.
