You have to admit now, that the coaching was inadequate though.

I can get to the team may should have won 2 SEC games and Rutgers.  Bielema lost too many he shouldn't have each season.  And that is on coaching.  But 2 SEC wins doesn't mean he was left with much and certainly not a ready to win program.
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

Two 7ths a 5th and a 3rd.  A kicker FB Center and DE.  Wow.  That is loaded with talent to win in the SEC in 2013.  A 7th round kicker!

But that's still more than over half of the other teams in the conference that year. If you think that's so bad what do you think of the teams that had even less than that and didn't go 0-8 in the SEC?

I can come towards we should have won a couple.  Let's not try and stretch it into this wasn't a rebuild.

2014 was a huge underachievement.

We played a lot of bad or injured qbs.

Mitch Loewen and Fr HH?   Wow.  Impressive.  Should have dominated SEC with that depth.
HH is not a D-lineman and I think Braylon Mitchell an NFL roster also - might be 7 NFL D-Linemen on that team.

Brandon Allen getting hurt really hurt that team.

As someone else listed. The entire offense was loaded to the teeth. The defensive line was as well. The rest of the defense not so much.

Should have been winning big in 2014/2015.

Beaverfever

It was obvious at the time that our defensive line was one of the best in college football.  We just kind of all assumed it was normal to have a dominant d-line and be an awful team.  It's not.  Our only two conference wins in 2014 were back to back shutouts against ranked teams.  That should have been a sign.  Do y'all remember the Texas bowl against Texas?  We had no business playing in that bowl game.  We were on a completely different level than Texas.  Bret lost 14 straight conference games with that team.  We got taken.

Beaverfever

Also that list didn't include Mitchell Loewen and Kiero Small.  I think both have been on active rosters in the NFL.

Regardless of current argument, in 5 more years CBB will have us ready for SEC play.  Can't wait.  Literally.

I never bought that narrative. It's an easy way for media to excuse failings of a first year and ingraciate themselves to a new staff without doing research.

Some were Fr in 2013.  Not the players they became.

BA hurt for some of the season. No backup.

Most of our opponents were much better.  SEC very deep that season.
Thanks to Bert's bonehead handling of the Brandon Mitchell/Allen QB competition.

There is another story line that started year one and has continued through to today.  It was recognizable then and now and that's the favotism towards certain players.  I argued my head of then and haven't changed my mind one bit.  Brandon Mitchell should have started that year and we had offensive linemen that set the bench so BB could prove he had a better eye for o-lineman than the previous coach.  Time hasn't proven that I don't think.  Add to that the total ineffectiveness of our wide recievers(not just talking about 2013)until one Drew Morgan was finally "allowed" to play and it all just adds up to stupid.

What I noticed then was a lot of emotional crying in pressers by CBB that year.  Not so much anymore.

OP makes a good point in just looking at the roster. I'd trade ours now for that one.

Hard to say, our team might suck but some of these guys will make it to the NFL, obviously too early to tell on some of these but here's a few names to consider:

Frank Ragnow
Santos Ramirez
Jared Cornelius
Kevin Richardson II
Bijhon Jackson
Devwah Whaley
T.J. Hammonds
Cole Kelley

He continually said that first season, "Give me a year with these guys blah blah blah". He had a year and then another, and the results weren't great...

You are spot on my friend. No one is out to get CBB just for the hell of it. I know that I personally don't have any desire to do the, "I told you so" shuck & jive, but those of us who were concerned about what was going on were bullied, belittled, & made to feel as if we were anti-razorback for questioning whether CBB knew what he was doing. Our concerns have proven to be warranted. CBB has made the most bizarre personell decisions that I've ever seen at Arkansas. I'm 42, FYI. The first major red flag was not giving Brandon Mitchell the starting job or at least a fair shot. He transfered to NC State b/c he knew damn, good, and well what was going on. Funny how he got the starting job at NC State within a few weeks. That kid was talented & he sacrificed a lot to get his shot to play Qb. Bert came in telling everyone & Bo Mattingly parroted the "seniors get to play because they have earned it" motto from Wisconsin, which apparently didn't apply to Brandon Mitchell. Then he anointed Brandon Allen starter for life. How many coaches are so stubborn & in love with a QB they refuse to let the other guys get even mop up time. It took Brandon Allen like 3yrs to become a competent QB. Anyone who questioned the QB rotation was blitzkrieged on the radio & on Hogville. "You think you know more than a college coach", etc. To not even sit a qb who was struggling to say the least,  for a few series to watch from the sidelines is very bizarre. He ran off Korliss Marshall. And yes he begrudgingly let Drew Morgan play because he was undeniably talented. Drew Morgan had that classic Razorback spirit! In spades!

That's all.

I counted 19 or 20 names on that roster who have made an NFL roster and most are still in the League. Some are on IR, some are on practice squads, but 19 players in all and one more I think is still there.

Edit: 22 of those names have played in the NFL, I overlooked Hocker and Irwin-Hill although the Aussie has never played or been on a regular season roster.

But, but, but, we're jus' poor lil' ol' arkinsaw, we ain't got no talent, we cain't git no talent, we cain't compete in the big, bad, SEC.

HOGWASH!

1. Brandon Allen QB, Jax, LA Rams (2017)
2. AJ Derby TE, NE, Den (2017)
3. Jonathan Williams RB, Buff, Den, NO (2017)
4. Alex Collins, RB, Sea, Bal (2017)
5. Hunter Henry TE, SD
6. Jeremy Sprinkle TE, Wash
7. Mitchell Loewen DE, NO (IR)
8. Dan Skipper OL, Dal, Det (practice squad?)
9. Travis Swanson, C, Det
10. Denver Kirkland OL, Oak (IR)
11. Robert Thomas, DT Wash, IN?
12. Darius Philon, DT, SD
13. Trey Flowers, DL, NE
14. Dietruch Wise, Jr. DE NE
15. Martrell Speight, LB Wash
16. Tevin Mitchel DB, Wash, IN, OAK (practice squad)
17. Keon Hatcher, WR, OAK (practice squad)
18. Chris Smith, DE, Jax, Cin.
19. Javontee Herndon, WR SD (not active, practice squad or played at least 2 years)
20. Zach Hocker, K, Wash., NO (not active, opened the season as starter in '14 or '15
21. Kiero Small FB, Bal (not active)
22. Sam Irwin-Hill, P Dal (kicked in preseason, got try out in 2017 when Bailey was put on IR)

Now, I know this list is not as long (no pun intended) as 'Bama's or LSU's, but 3-9, 0-8 is the best Bert could do with this group? 10 of these guys start in the NFL or play a lot, or did before being put on IR in some cases.
