Seton Hall basically plays 8 guys, and only 6 have played in every game for the Pirates. Of those 8, one of them only plays around 4.5 minutes per game. They have three players that have played over 1000 minutes this season, while Arkansas has zero (Kingsley is the only Hog to have played over 900 minutes), four score in double figures, and their lone big man (Delgado) is very good averaging 15 ppg and 13 rpg. SH doesn't block a lot of shots, but they do rebound very well even though they don't have very many big men. SH has five players that shoot between 31% and 37% from 3-point range, only two of the seven significant players average better than 70% from the free throw line, and only two shoot better than 50% from the floor.
Everyone keeps going on and on about how they almost beat Villanova in the Big East Tournament championship game, but let's be realistic...that was a championship game and SH was hyped up, while Nova probably took it for granted that they were going to beat Hall since Nova waxed them in the regular season, 76-46 at Villanova and 92-70 at SH.
Arkansas, on the other hand, has 9 players that have played in every game, all nine play in double digit minutes, and none of them have played over 900 minutes this season except Kingsley. The Hogs have four players average double digit ppg, are above average at rebounding, and block at least 5 shots per game. Arkansas has five players that shoot between 35% and 48% from 3-land, 5 that shoot better than 74% from the free throw line (two at 88% and 90%), and of the nine significant players for the Hogs seven of them shoot between 40-47% from the floor while the other two shoot 57% and 63%.
I hope the bull about Dickie V and the UK game dies down soon, because the Hogs don't need that distraction.
If Arkansas plays like they should play, even if SH has a good game, the Hogs should beat the Pirates, pulling away in the last ten minutes of the second half after getting into their legs IF they can keep the tempo up and put pressure on SH for most of the game.
I'll call it now:
Hogs - 83
Pirates - 71
:razorback:
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is.

Mount St. Mary's vs. New Orleans

Northeast Conference bid-winner Mount St. Mary's faces Southland Conference winner New Orleans in the first of two games slated for Tuesday in the "First Four"

The winner advances to play No. 1 overall seed Villanova

QuoteMount St. Mary's is in the dance for the fifth time in school history. An NEC team has never won a tournament game that wasn't a 16-vs.-16 scenario.

New Orleans hasn't been to the Big Dance since 1996, and it took every second of overtime against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to get them back here. It's the fifth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance for the Privateers.

Odds (via Vegas Insiders)
New Orleans -1.5

QuoteScarblog: Mike Anderson will lead Arkansas against Seton Hall in the day's first game there. Mike Davis and Texas Southern will take on North Carolina in the second game.

Time has given the 56-year-old Davis perspective on his six years as the UAB head coach. Despite his struggles in the Conference USA Tournament, his Blazers won one regular-season championship and also finished second once and third twice with Memphis in the league. They played in one NCAA Tournament and three NITs.

"'I needed to get away,'" he said. The death of his mother hit him particularly hard, and he added, "'There was too much stuff for me there.'"

He's found a home at Texas Southern and a plan that works for him and the program. The Tigers play a brutal non-conference schedule - their first 16 games this season were away from home - which helps the budget and strengthens the players for conference play.

In five seasons in Houston, Davis is 99-68 overall and 76-14 in the SWAC. His Tigers have won four regular-season titles, and they've added three of the last four SWAC Tournament championships. This is their fourth straight postseason berth, with trips to three NCAA Tournaments and one NIT.

They've also generated plenty of revenue through their guarantee games and their postseason trips.

MountHoops are playing New Orleans to determine who will face No. 1 Villanova in the first round.

QuoteMount St. Mary's basketball coach Jamion Christian said he created a document with his players called "Embrace the Good," where they wrote down positive things on one side and negative things on the other in correlation with their performance of play.

The goal was simple — fill up the front of the document with more positives than negatives after each game.

The Mount went 1-11 through the first month and a half of play, suffering eight straight losses during that time. Then they won eight straight games through January and capped the season as the Northeast Conference victors with a 71-61 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) last week in the tournament championship game.

'Street sweeper' mentality propelled UNO Privateers to NCAA promised land

QuoteThe first thing you see when you walk into the New Orleans Privateers' locker room at Lakefront Arena is a message on the wall in blue block letters.

It reads: "If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michaelangelo painted pictures, like Shakespeare wrote poetry, like Beethoven composed music; sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper, who did his job well.'"

The guys on TV tonight were all over that guy.  Deservedly so.  Vitale was not calling the game so that's why you didn't hear from him.
