Had ACL tears on both my knees. Hate to see it for anyone even swag. Ole Piss probably won't go to a bowl game now

Selfishly however it may mean Austin Allen becomes 1st Team All SEC. I would think at worst 2 second team

ole miss likely wasn't going to a bowl anyway . so now they are forced to work with whoever will start next season . So they may actually benefit from this

Apparently Ole Piss is considering pulling Patterson's RS.

That would of course mean one less year we would have to face him. Some had him as the #1 QB

He grandstanded all off season that he was "the best QB in the country".

He's also had high profile run ins with law enforcement and porn stars.

I saw the title to this thread and thought it meant we wouldn't be wearing anthracite again after last weekend.

Agree. Any player that gives his all on the field I can have empathy for unless they do stuff on or off the field really atrocious. He's by all accounts a d bag off the field but he isn't a convicted felon and he he is a gamer on the field. Good luck to him on his recovery.

Seems like most players have good and bad qualities that shape our opinions of them, but one thing that I'll always remember about Kelly is that after Brandon Allen scored the game winning 2-point conversion last year and was lying hurt in the end zone, Kelly came over, bent down, encouraged him and patted him on the shoulder.  He was the only Ole Miss player (or coach) to do anything like that.  I thought it was a classy thing at the time and I still do.

Good for him. Despite his off the field issues when on the field I've never seen him do anything that would lead me to believe he was a "dirty" player or showing disrespect for his opponent. He's just out there competing hard as it should be for any player. Once again good luck on his recovering.

I was just thinking the same thing.  He's a hard competitor but he's always showed good sportsmanship on the field when I've seen him.  In fact, after this last time that we played them he was one of the first to congratulate CBB after the game.  I think the young man has grown a lot since he got booted from Clemson.  I hope he has a speedy recovery and gets a chance at the next level.

Chad Kelly out at Ole Miss torn ACL and knee meniscus tear. He is senior so he's done. I hold my breath ever time AA gets buried. Your one hit away from a bad  or mediocre season.

I hate it for him, yeah I know he plays for the enemy, but he is still a college kid and I hate to see any of them truly injured.

Texas A&M is really kicking themselves. They would have had cakewalk to at least first team out bowl. So sad. An aggie will always be an aggie.

I raise my hand as guilty of remembering bad stuff about people instead of what they do good. Thanks for reminding me that this kid does do some great things in between episodes of idiocy. Hope he recovers well enough to play for the Cowboys some day.

Quote
Editorís note: Two years after first arriving on campus as a prized junior college signee, Chad Kellyís time at Ole Miss is over. In 22 games with the Rebels, the Buffalo native threw for 6,800 yards and scored 65 total touchdowns while quarterbacking one of the most prolific offenses in the country. He helped orchestrate a legendary upset of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, against a team that would go on to win the national championship, and he led the program to its first Sugar Bowl victory since 1970. [Fifty!]

He had to sit down with SEC Countryís Alec Shirkey to craft a letter to Ole Miss fans about his time in Oxford:

Dear Ole Miss fans,

Iíve been introduced to some really great people over the past couple of years. Coaches who made me better. Teammates and friends who gave me constant encouragement. A world-class support staff that helped me with everything from football to schoolwork.

And all of you, the fans. We lived through some incredible moments together.

You were there every time we walked through the Grove before a game. Seeing so many fans surrounding us, and theyíre all going crazy, thereís no feeling quite like it. Game day in Oxford is church on Saturday. You all packed the stadium every weekend. You were upset the rest of the week if we lost, and happy the rest of the week if we won. Thatís what itís all about.

You were there when we beat Alabama. We were able to march into Tuscaloosa and put our stamp on who we are. Thatís the kind of game you dream about. Iíll remember it for the rest of my life.

You were there when we went to the Sugar Bowl for the first time in 45 years. The feeling of all that confetti falling down on us in the Superdome was truly something special. Iíll never forget throwing that touchdown lateral to Laremy Tunsil. Some people felt like we had the game in our hands, but we kept fighting and took a 28-point lead going into halftime. Winning that game felt amazing.

You helped make my two years in Oxford special. The road to Ole Miss wasnít always easy, of course. Nobodyís perfect. I know Iím not. I canít change the past. Yeah, Iíve made some dumb mistakes. But I absolutely mean it when I say Iíve learned from them.

In junior college, I kept an article in my room. It was written after Clemson kicked me off the team. I looked at that every single day to remind myself how I got there. To remind myself how every decision you make is going to be put under a microscope.

If I donít grow up now, at 23 years old, Iím never going to get it. The time is now, and Iím thankful I have an opportunity to show NFL teams who I really am and what I can do.

I want to thank everybody who stuck by me through thick and thin. I also want to thank my family ó especially my brother, mom and dad ó for helping me along the way. Itís been a blessing to have a little brother who looks up to me in everything I do. Casey and I talk all the time. He really wants to follow in my footsteps, and my uncleís footsteps. I want to be a good role model for him and set a great example for him on and off the field. That motivates me every single day.

Sometimes everything doesnít go according to plan. But if Iíve learned anything, itís that you canít give up. Keep pushing. Thatís my mentality, because Iíve been working for this my entire life. My dad always told me, ďIf you can throw the ball anywhere on the field, youíll be able to play in the NFL.Ē I took that to heart. At 7 years old, I started throwing the ball 30 yards. A year or two later, I could throw it another 10 yards. I kept practicing and practicing until I could throw it 75 yards at age 14. Thatís how badly I wanted to become an NFL quarterback.

I also put a lot of pressure on myself growing up. Having an uncle whoís a Hall of Fame quarterback, I always felt like people were watching my every move. So I wanted to show out and prove what I can do. I needed to be great. But Iím playing through my name, and nobody elseís. My dad preached that, and it stuck with me.

Thereís no faking it at quarterback. You have to put in early mornings and late nights. You have to be friends with everybody, whether you like it or not, and you have to prove that youíre a hard worker. After all, you want the same thing from your teammates in return. And you have to believe you can accomplish anything. Five months after tearing my ACL, I was back on a football field throwing for NFL scouts at my pro day. When someone says Ďyou canít,í I like being able to be the first one to say ĎI can.í

I believe Iím a franchise quarterback because I have all those traits.

Iíll be with family and friends in Buffalo when the draft starts. Itíll just be another day I get to go home, watch my brother play some lacrosse, watch him do well and then find out where I go. Whatever happens, I wonít let it slow me down. My parents always told me that you finish what you start. I started this journey back in seventh grade. You better believe Iíll keep going.

To all of the Rebels fans who have cheered for me, Iíd like to say: Thank you for your dedication. Youíve helped make Ole Miss the great university it is today. I was so lucky to be part of such a great team, and such a great conference. Iím going to miss it.

Sincerely,

Chad Kelly
