failure to appear

Are they going to pick up the whole squad for the Georgia game?
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

They were definitely loitering on offense, and throwing up bricks.

You couldn't have posted more like why he was arrested?  Or did you just want to be first to embarrass him?  geez- failure to appear, no big deal

As much as it would have been nice to find out why with the initial post, there is no such thing as a  'no big deal' arrest;  FTAs may not have major penalties attached, but FTAs tend to reflect people believing that they aren't obligated to obey the laws of society when it comes to being responsible for their personal conduct.  FTA speaks to a weakness of character, more than criminality.

Yeah, but sometimes it is a misunderstanding. Like showing up on the wrong day, or just forgetting.

And before anyone says "how in the hell do you forget a court date?" Well, it could've been for something minor, like a traffic ticket, and it slipped your mind because you have a life and other things come up. Responsible? Not really. Earth shattering? Certainly not. That being said, I have no idea why he didn't appear, or what he didn't appear for.

I've got a bit of experience with FTAs as an attorney for the past 26 years in the criminal justice system.  What you describe fits a few of the ones I've seen, but mainly, it's either folks with bad calendar management or dealing with the situation by avoiding it.  Some have other warrants and/or unpaid fines and know that coming to court on the day specified is going to result in something worse for them than skipping the court date--at least in the short term.

Bad calendar management and ignoring it hoping it goes away are precisely the types of character flaws that I'm talking about.   When you are to be in Court, that should be *the* most important thing on your schedule-- and its your problem, not someone else's,  so a person better be responsible enough to show up.   Showing up is the easy part of life, and if you can't even do that,  then there's little hope for you.

What could possibly be keeping him too busy to show up for court?  His 4 days of class this semester?  Or a road game AFTER his date?

I agree with the "hoping it goes away," part. But as for bad calendar mgmt, he's a college kid. It's not a character flaw, it's a lack of organizational skills.

He could have simply gotten his dates mixed up.

So did anyone else see the link originally and silently hope that it was something more serious that could cause him to miss a game or two?

It's the rule regarding fair and speedy trial. It means that if he didn't bond out of jail, that would be the first date that he could see a judge for an attempt at adjudication.

This is the bottom line right here.

The seriousness of the violation is completely irrelevant. The issue here is responsibility and accountability.

I doubt it. Charles Thomas got a FTA earlier and didn't miss any games.

Quite Frankly

I don't think he got a FTA, he just checked in for his community service as part of his suspended sentence.
