Well maybe so, but I lived in Magnolia for 2 years and it Seemed that every hog fan I met there were 2 or 3 LSU fans. I suppose everyone's experience is different that was just how it seemed while I was there. Had to go to alot of chemical plants so maybe they were just transplants

There are definitely a lot of LSU fans in El Do and Magnolia, but Hog fans outnumber them by a longshot.

I believe you, I just grew up in central arkansas and then when I moved down to LA the contrast was much greater it seemed. Lots of good hunting down there, I'm down every year hunting now, just moved back home

Born and raised in Camden. Moving to Magnolia now. Magnolia definitely has a lot more LSU fans than Camden. Camden is definitely Hog country. I think the fact Camden has sent a ton of players to be Hogs is the reason.

Man I'm originally from Magnolia, so I kinda know Camden. I'm not sure if there is a official watch party there. I dont really think there are any sports bars there. I'm sure the White House, Postmasters, or the Sandbar will have the game on. They are all restaurants that have bars but as far as a sports bar im not sure if there is one there.
Sandbar is closed on Saturdays

I haven't been inside that building since it was the post office.
When did it stop being the Post Office?  I moved to Camden in late '60s and it was already in the current location.  I know by the late 70s and through the 80s, the current location was pretty used up and needing remodeling.  I haven't been in the old one since it was Y95 in the early to mid 90s.

Living in lower ark is more like living in North lousiana, the amount of LSU fans seems to be higher than the Hog fans. I used to live in the nolia too, glad to be back in central arkansas, seriously though the only place I knew of was bayou bistro but that was owned by lsu ppl also.
Living in Camden until the end of '89, never saw any fans of other schools except for people who moved in.  Overwhelming Hog fans in Camden.  Magnolia in the early '80s, when I was in college there, was either Hog fans or Rider fans.  I knew some who either worked at SAU or their parents did and were just SAU fans.  But on campus and really around town it was lots of Hog fans.  Probably AR moving to the SEC and having some mediocre years, the proximity of LA to Magnolia and LSU getting better in recent years than they were prior to Saban have all added to being LSU fans in the area.

I don't know.  South Arkansas and Northern LA are a lot alike.  Hell, growing up in El Do, we'd go to Monroe instead of Little Rock.  Listened to Monroe radio stations.  The terrain is the same.  The towns are similar.  The people are similar.
It was great in Camden getting radio and TV from LR, Shreveport, Monroe and at times could even pick up Jackson.

LSU Trip Report
« Reply #15463 on: November 15, 2015, 02:40:05 pm »

Pregame:  I only got there an hour prior to kickoff so not much time to evaluate. But there were a ton of GREAT tailgates with big screens, grills, drinks and such. All the fans were fine. The worst thing I encountered was a few "Tiger Bait" taunts but they were good natured taunts.

The atmosphere:  What a let-down. One of the main reasons I went to this game was because I've always wanted to see the legendary Death Valley at night. At no point during the game was it as loud as Fayetteville. Not once. And most of the time it was DEAD. I asked several LSU fans what was wrong and they mostly said that LSU fans are either all in or disinterested. Once they lost to Alabama and were out of title contention they stopped caring. 7-1 record and ranked #9 and they are already giving up on the season. I can remember 2 third downs when the crowd tried to get loud to help their D...but the best they could muster was about like a Fayetteville third down when we're already up by 28 and on the way to an easy win. And the atmosphere wasn't lethargic just because we blew up to a 21 point lead. It was dead from the kickoff.

The fans:  At the game the fans basically ignored us. Neither rude not polite. This has been mentioned a lot all over, but the fans began leaving at half. At least 2,000 people walked out at half. It was only a 14 point game. Pathetic. Later when they cut it to 7 points and had tons of momentum, we countered with a fieldgoal and the floodgates opened. Just a 10 point difference and tons of time left and they were flowing out. I was completely stunned.

Post game:  The hog fans roared. It was sweet. The LSU fans quietly wandered away. I never saw anyone being confrontational to a Hog fan.

Overall:  Great game by the Razorbacks!  After all I've heard about LSU fans spitting on you and throwing bottles and all that (not doubting those things happened to others) I didn't see anything like that. The fans were a big disappointment in their fanhood...but they didn't give us any trouble at all. I was glad to see my Hogs silence that place but I was disappointed not to get the full LSU night game experience.

Go Hogs!

Nice report.  Glad you didn't have any problems.  I would guess losing to Bama and then going down by 21 early resulted in a pretty subdued crowd.  Glad we could help keep them calm.

Interesting post. I've always heard how nasty things can get down there with LSU fans. Heck, the nastiest fans I've ever encountered were LSU fans at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
I'm glad to know our F15 pilot got out unmolested....

You enjoyed the trip, got to see your team win, and it's another stadium you can say you have visited.

Not a bad night at all was it?

Any dining experiences of note?

I'm glad you had a good time and didn't have to encounter any BS. I was Wondering about you (and the rest of the Hog fans) walking out of that stadium and how that would go after the win! From your post I would guess we man handled them so badly their fans didn't have any fight left in them to the point of apathy.

I'd guess the LSU fans were so stunned they decided to not strain their vocal chords in this game.  You really can't blame them.  But the stadium emptying out as early as it did is a huge cause for alarm.

Thank our football team for taking their crowd out of the game early.

I think the LSU fanbase has just grown disillusioned with yet another dysfunctional offense - same song year after year after year.
The LSU fans I know had high, high hopes for Brandon Harris and Fournette this year.

They now see that Harris has not progressed and improved (not his fault - can't think of an LSU QB who was better the day he left than the day he got there) and realize Fournette can't carry that offense through every single game.

Yep - I don't care how good a crowd a team has - when the offense can't move the ball and you're down 21 - 0 in the 2nd quarter, most any crowd is pretty silent.

Don't be an idiot.  I said I was disappointed in their apathetic atmosphere.  Then I commended their behavior.  I had heard so many reports of their misbehavior that I wanted to say for the record that they were not bad with us.  No disappointment about that at all.

I was disappointed to not see one of the supposed greatest venues for college football.  I'm a fan of the game.  One of the millions of reasons college football is great is because of the lore of Death Valley at night.  I was disappointed not to experience it at it's peak on my one trip there.

Would I rather lose and see that?  Of course not.  But I would have enjoyed hearing that place shake...quickly followed by silence as AC takes it to the house.  Yes.  Very much.

The LSU crowd was put mentally out of the game early - so you never got to see the loud and rowdy crowd LSU is known for.
I hope you got hear their band - my favorite SEC band for sure.

Sounds like the exact opposite of my experience there back when we had Mallet, Petrino, and crew.

Loud as hell, fans were mean, and we got ripped off at the end of the game as LSWho drove down to score a last second TD for the win.

Cant judge anyplace on one game I dont think. Except Mizzou, that place is just a S$%t hole.

Been there one time.  We went- me, the wife, college freshman daughter and high school junior daughter - in 2011 when they were ranked #1 in the BCS and we were ranked #3 (Tyler Wilson's junior season).  Like many, I went down there very curious about whether all the stories I'd heard were true.  Of course, the game itself turned out to be a huge disappointment (great start, then getting overwhelmed late, but getting to see CBP's four-letter shout out at Les was fun).

Regarding fans, my impressions were that the older fans were generally nice.  I remember as we parked and began our walk to the stadium we talked with lots of their fans and they were genuinely concerned about the game and had very respectful things to say about our team.  But as we got closer to the campus and began to encounter most of the younger fans and the college age kids, it got pretty bad.  Lots of things yelled at us; a couple of bottles thrown - not to hit us I'm sure but it was still kind of unsettling - and even a few that started following us and yelling at us as we walked.  Once we finally got into the stadium, most everyone was focused on the game so we didn't get any real abuse there.  Then, leaving the stadium, we just tried to keep a low profile and hurry back to our car as quickly as we could.  Nobody paid much attention to us.

Their stadium was extremely loud that day and I was impressed by all of that, but I think I've experienced louder at Alabama and Auburn (and yes, even DWRRS a time or two).  The lasting impression was the behavior of those young fans before the game, and it's probably the reason why we won't be going back to Baton Rouge.

One last thing; the worst I've ever seen opposing fans was at War Memorial after we played LSU in 2006.

The 2011 game is the one I attended as well. The loud speaker mic literally in my face taunting while 100's of people around jeered and encouraged as we were walking to the vehicle from the stadium is something I'll never forget.

I wonder if someone will call 911 and the Oxford PD to escort Brandon Harris out of the stadium.

Maybe @BRPD should have tried kicking the @RazorbackFB QB out of the stadium. We hear that helps. #TheMoreYouKnow #ARKvsLSU

I know it has been discussed ad nauseam, but I can't find where it is on the board.  If someone knows where please direct me.  Otherwise, where are your go to spots?

What type of food?

Our overall favorite though is Hugo's.

P.S. I will NEVER go back to Powerhouse Seafood either.
