Actually, it's easy to understand why we play good rush defense and poor pass defense.

We don't have the talent to defend both and so the coaches have , for whatever reason, chosen to make teams beat us throwing the ball. Against a team like LSU who's QB isn't very good this year, that worked great. So yes, the coaches made a mistake against MSU, the should have played with 6 defensive backs the entire game and made them beat us on the ground, or made some really spectacular plays to beat us in the passing game.

Six DBs are about all they have. If you wanted them to play every snap, great idea.

You can't run zone against a spread offense. We have yet to win against a spread offense.

ole miss, auburn?

and I'm pretty sure we run a mix of zone and man as most teams do.

unfortunately, you are probably right.  we are in rebuilding mode on defense.  they have been doing the best they can with what they have.  we had 13 underclassmen on the defensive 2 deep for miss st.

Actually 3 times that many! Yeah a few are walkons, but there is a pretty wide selection.

Notice just how many times HE says the word SCHEME! I really believe that giving up so many game killing big passes last year led BB to change our defensive philosophy. Last year we ran the same base 4-3, but on many occasions we rushed 3 and even 2. We did do some different things last year.

He talks about LB depth, but Josh Harris rarely if ever gets in a game. Hackett started early and now gets very little PT. Hard for me to believe that Harris couldn't give Ellis 1 or 2 plays a quarter off.

Actually had 6 DB's on the field most of the game. And when we don't there is a Freshman safety playing at LB, so most every play besides LSU, Bama, and Tennessee all year has basically had 6 DB's!

Half of those are either redshirting or are walkons.  Beyond that, we get into the issue of experience for 5 of those.
