Quote from: RebelliousHog on Today at 02:13:17 pmThe other Regionals must have had better playing conditions or easier pin placements than Vegas. 3rd day scores in Vegas were way higher.

There were strong winds at our regional for the 3rd round. I believe all teams struggled.

Unlimited official visits also apply to all recruits (high school & transfers).  I actually like this, some rules need to evolve in a ever-changing landscape of revolving doors.

Report: Colorado transfer running back Alton McCaskill commits to ASU

by: Thomas Goldkamp

QuoteFormer Houston and Colorado running back Alton McCaskill has committed to Arizona State out of the NCAA transfer portal, he told ESPN.

McCaskill was the AAC Freshman of the Year at Houston in 2021 and had a monster year, putting him on the radar.

Colorado has once again seen plenty of attrition via the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. According to On3's tracking, the Buffaloes have lost 17 players to the transfer portal since the season ended, while gaining 33 new players.

Quote from: DOGALUM on Yesterday at 11:30:52 pmEvidently one of us knows what a PREFERRED walk on means.  It is not the same as just a regular walk on.

He is guaranteed a roster spot.

(a walk on and a preferred walk on are not the same....just so you know)
My son was a Preferred Walk On for the Hogs in 2004-2006.  Just to clarify, a PWO is included in the 105 players that can go through Fall practice beginning in early August.  A regular walk on can not practice with the team until classes start in the Fall.  They usually didn't receive a scholarship until their 3rd year, if at all.  If they received one prior to their 3rd year, they counted against the old "25" per year limit so there was usually no scholarship available.  I'm sure that has changed with the new rules that you only have to be at the 85 total scholarships.

BTW, there were several former baseball players on those teams (2004-2006).  They were younger than Harrison but had spent multiple years in the minor leagues and had decided to pursue football instead.

One would think with at much interest shown, Cal will land enough freshman to mix with experience  ever year, not sure you want more than 3 maybe four of that caliber to gel together with a team.

Quote from: hogfan10 on Today at 10:18:40 amI'd go with your lineup w/2 changes.
Wilmsmyeyer batting 1 pushing all others down a slot.
Move Jones yo the DH pool.
Nooooooooo, automatic out needs to stay out. If Diggs sits I say throw nolan souza in RF or wagner. Dh the other. Leave Holt in. I really think Holt is trying to swing for more power now which has affected his average a bit but he has 3 HR in sec play. Back in leadoff I think he would just want good solid contact to get on. Last year he was great batting lead off.

Quote from: philiphog on Today at 02:14:34 pmIt is relatively easy to sign players that most teams know are going to sign with a MLB team. The real proof that a hitting coach can recruit is evaluating kids that aren't projected to sign and getting those kids to school. He's simply not doing that. Because of our poor recruiting and bad evaluations - and you can add on poor development, we are now in a position where this year is bad offensively and, if you look at our roster, next year looks to be worse unless we miraculously get a whole new group out of the portal. Hanging your hopes on getting kids out of the portal each year is recipe for disaster. I know high school coaches in the state and, collectively, they say our staff, as far as recruiters, is not impressive. They are good coaches, but not great recruiters. DVH has some hard choices coming up.

The biggest issue is that several of our signees have had huge draft spring leaps.

Walker Martin was a top 200 rated player when he committed and was going to be a DE Sophomore had he made it to campus.  He had a MASSIVE spring last year which led him to the first round.  Had he been someone who had to be in school three years instead of two, he has that leap as a Hog.

To a certain extent, Max Muncy, Jordan Viars and Drew Gray were all similar in their draft springs in 2021.

Add those four players to this team and it looks different.  Although, who knows if we get Aloy had Muncy been here.

Monday Morning Quarterback / Re: Shout Out to Hot Springs

Quote from: AwholeHog on Today at 02:54:22 amI'm SW of Hot Springs between the Caddo River and Lake Greeson. If it's that thing that came thru here about 10:40 pm the wind got as high as fast as anything I've ever seen. Had to have been 40-50 mph winds. I was expecting trees to go over.
Then as quick as it came it calmed down. But man that was some serious wind for a few minutes.

That is the neck of the woods I grew up in.
