Yes, that certainly has to help our chances.

I believe so, but they fired his coach, so most think he'll get a release.

Micah Thomas would be huge for us.  He fits a need and he has a chance to grow into a very, very, very good player.  He is way ahead of Qualls at this point and look where Qualls got to by his junior year.

He is a different looking athlete than Qualls. Thomas is much smoother while Qualls was all power.

He did not sign an LOI.

Are you positive on that?  I thought he did and recruiting sites say signed.

ESPN says he signed on 10/7/15, but that's not possible because the early signing period starts in November. They have him signing on the day he actually just verbally committed to UNLV.

Ok, ESPN was the one I looked at and I thought I remembered hearing when Rice got fired that he should be able to get a release to go somewhere else.  I guess it was just some people who thought he had signed saying that.

You're right, and Eric Bossi says he and the other UNLV commits signed (did a Google search), but all of the recruiting sites say he hasn't for some reason.

This article also indicates that he did sign.

I would think he would have no problem getting his release. I also don't think Arkansas would be on a list of schools he couldn't transfer to.

We were one of his 5 official visits, along with Memphis, UNLV, Baylor, and Indiana. He only visited Baylor and Indiana after he committed.

We were in his final 3 with Memphis and UNLV. Our roster will be pretty full next year so I'm not sure how interested he'd be in us now, but Jabril Durham putting up 7 assists per game would be something I'd sell to him. He could easily do more.

And my understanding of CMA and the way he recruits is after somebody commits elsewhere then he stops recruiting them completely. I am not sure how he would approach a case like this. My understanding of the Allen thing at UF is that he was not interested in making contact with Allen until he pulled his commitment but I may be remembering that wrong.

Soooo when is Micah Thomas set to visit Fayetteville? What's the hold-up?

Why do we think Jaylen Fisher is leaving UNLV? He's still retweeting pro-UNLV tweets on his own feed as of 40 minutes prior to this post of mine.

Wishful thinking on our part? Looking like it.

After Thomas and Fisher...who's next? Prepare yourselves.

Sure, they're not fun questions to entertain, but asking them in mid-February seems pretty legit.

I imagine Thomas, if he's truly got interest outside of waiting for an opening at Louisville, will eventually visit. But why wait until after our season ends, if that's the case?

Here's a quote from a Scout interview

"I have a Louisville visit February 1 and I am trying to set everything else up," Thomas explained. "I have been to Arkansas before, but Louisville is the only official visit I have set up."

He must have visited unofficially earlier.  Still think he may be a stretch to qualify.

Micah Thomas is down to Louisville & Maryland. Look for 2* 6'4" CJ (Cairon) Jones' name to come up soon. He was committed to UT-Chattanooga until a few days ago when he decommitted.

CJ Jones does look like a player, but I was hoping we could get someone a little taller, since we have Macon and Barford coming already.  He appears to have a very good shot motion from this video.  He is athletic and appears skillful.

This is so frustrating. A guy like this could really help us and once again it looks like we miss out on him. Something has got to be done about our recruiting whether it's new assistants or new head coach. We have too much to offer to keep losing out on some of these guys over and over

Video can be deceiving, so I want to know the story as to why this kid is rated so low. At 6'3"-6'4", he is explosive and quick. I'm guessing his shot isn't as consistent as it looks in the video.

Even if he sits most of next year, he will be valuable as Hannahs will be leaving after next year and our entire backcourt except Whitt will be gone the year after.

I have come to expect it from our staff. As HA has alluded to....we will end up signing a 2* and pray he is a diamond in the rough. Frustrating watching our staff flail around late in the game year after year. If you can recruit to LSU and MSU and aTm you can damn sure recruit to arkansas.

If we are going after another guard then why did we back off Fisher (or what it seemed like) in the first place?  What an ace staff we have up there.
Images should not be any wider or taller than 250 pixels, max two images.  use  or  to accomplish this.  Total image width is allowed to be 500 pixels, maximum.  Maximum size of all signature images cannot exceed 100,000 total bytes.

No doubt about it. Recruiting in general must improve. I want to see this staff close on a quality target down the stretch. I have no faith it will happen but would love to be proven wrong.

Mike is loyal I suppose but it seems like the money is there for him to hire additional staff to recruit.  A new facility may not always work with these kids today.

Appears the kid has athleticism none of our current guards have. For a team that is supposed to be quick and fast, we sure are not.

Also suggests that our coaches have known about him and perhaps wanted to see how his senior year went. Saw on one news item that he dropped 43 points in one game. He does appear to be a legit 6-4 in the video clips available with a nice wing-span and decent to good athleticism. Doesn't appear to be the spring reaches that Dee Wagner and Doobie Jenkins were. May be an honest-to-goodness late bloomer who's just now growing into his body and developing his game.

If you are going to reach, reach on a great athlete. Not someone like Wagner or Jenkins. I wouldn't mind this kid taking a roster spot if we don't land anyone better. We really won't need him with our guard depth for a while. But if he develops sooner, you can always go with 4 guards. Size and athleticism is there. His shot looks pretty good. Not a bad development project.

We have to take the best available player, IMO. Need-wise, he could use a big or a wing over a guard, but talent is talent. We do lose two guards in 2017. Hopefully some more promising names come up, though.

I kind of want some more info on Jones. Razorag was impressed with him last year. Is he a late bloomer? Why is he rated so low and not recognized by most services?

There may be some big red-flag out there that explains it.

I think it's possible to be impressed with someone relative to what kind of talent they are in the world on college basketball. I'm not saying that's where RazorAg was coming from, but it's possible. He had to say about Jones wasn't necessarily screaming "This guy is a high-major talent."

I agree. I'm just saying I wonder what the story is here. He may be a kid that grew 4 inches in the last two years and people are just finding out about him. He may be a kid that has trouble off the court. His shot may be much worse than those videos show, who knows. Another possibility is he isn't a good ball handler.

But he looks like could add about 20 pounds of lean much and look like a solid guard at his height. A 6'4" guard with those hops and decent should be getting some decent looks besides UTC.

and this brings me back to wanting to know why is it so so very hard to get kids to come to Fayetteville?  Ben Howland got to Starkville, MS and signed Malik Newman, who at the time was considered the #1 shooting guard in the nation.  Yeah, the kid was from Jackson, MS, but Calipari didn't come in and steal him away like he did Monk.

There is just something lacking in what a kid sees when he evaluates Ark unless he has been a lifelong Hog fan like Bobby Portis.  I mean Micah Thomas would rather go to Louisville (where there is all kinds of unrest with strippergate and all that) or freakin Maryland then go to Arkansas, who he says has been recruiting him since the 9th effing grade.

Mike is not going to get the job done if he keeps coming in 2nd or 3rd to other schools when it comes down to the top talent in this area.

Just don't understand why we struggle so much to recruit.
