Just rewatched "The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain" again.

With all the drama surrounding the program in '06, the way Nutt handled it, being fairly certain Gus mismanaged his role in it.

Nutt can stay away and I have some strong reservations about Gus from what is public knowledge and issues that some media have brought up about his role since.

I'll support him if hired, but will have some reservations about character (that would probably go away with time and a lot of wins)

Houston Nutt would not be on a Top 25 list of serious candidates. His history at Arkansas plus his recent round of litigation -- fairly or unfairly -- functionally disqualify him from consideration.

If we restrict the discussion to Razorback history, Kevin Scanlon is the only serious candidate that comes to mind. I also think he will be on the short list regardless of background, assuming he hasn't communicated disinterest or has some unknown defect.

The fact that Frank Broyles hand picked Nutt as his successor puts him on the list. You obviously don't understand how much weight that carries.

You know how that is. Lol.

The fans purchased a full page ad against Nutt.  They flew a banner over the stadium.  They did a FOIA on his phone.  They wore black shirts to protest him.  No one at the U of A who has half a brain is going to think bringing him back to Arkansas in any capacity is a good idea.

And that doesn't even take into account what a disaster...and then, more recently, a rat...he was and has been for his latest employer.  Who wants to hire a guy who sucks so bad you have to fire him, turns around and rats out the school, and then sues them?

Thank GOD the decision is left to people that have a history of making good educated decisions and not Internet posters.
If there's one thing any of you should know as hog fans, brace yourself for disappointment and never get your hopes up.

Nutt needs to stay a 1,000 miles away from Arkansas much less the UofA.

How so?? I'd prefer that Kevin Scanlon get the job if he wants it but Houston Nutt being a possibility for the reason I mentioned can't be ignored.

His pouring it on Ole Miss should land him a free Loge Box for 5 years, but doesn't erase his assininity during the Jones, McFadden, Mustain era.

Sure it can.  The man has never done anything in athletics or business that would qualify him for the AD position.  Even without all the ill will he's along the lines of a David Bazzel.  Someone who understands the Razorbacks and might be excited about the job but technically have no business running a multi million dollar organization.

As far as Broyles goes:  When he made that statement he probably assumed he would have some time to train Houston and show him the ropes.

Let's not forget JFB did not have the business mind when he started.  It came over time and experience.  Great coach, could identify talent, but the business end took time.  He also did not have to run the women's sports portion for most if not all his tenure.

Scanlon would be a good hire.

I think you're right in the instance where there is time and distance from his Arkansas tenure but without the Mississippi drama. I just think that continuation of issues -- fairly or unfairly as I asserted above -- remove him from consideration. That's how I assess the situation.

I do think that there will be a yuge emphasis on football experience in the current athletic director search.

It's just a difference in opinion. I really don't have any lingering animosity toward HDN.

Your fiction is not near the quality as Stephen King, but consistent.  Dude, Nutt threw Broyles to the wolves to get back control of the football program.  Not to mention the reckless harm he initially tried after being fired on his way to Oxford.  You actually think a black balled college coach, that can't even get a job as a High School Waterboy, is going to be made AD?  Apparently they already opened a MJ dispensary and you've been testing the medicine.

And in talking with Mitch after I first watched the film's screening in LR years ago, he had not talked to Gus after the bus left for Tulsa.  Went from being the dad a kid never had from 8th grade thru first year of college, and then never heard from him again.  Things that make ya go hmmm...

I feel inclined to stay out of this discussion but must respond. As previously noted
1. He was handpicked by Coach Broyles
2. Polls show less then 5% of fans either do not support or don't like him. That is polls talking not me.
3.  Has the passion to move the program forward and win a sec west championship

I thank you.

Jim Lindsey is not involved in Razorback athletics. He has health issues.

Johnny Tyson is way less involved than most people think. He has a skybox and goes to the games. That's about it.

With the exception of Bud Walton, who died years ago, the Walton's are involved in funding for academics at the university not athletics.

Then who are the big money boosters calling the shots then?  Gotta be more than Jerry Jones.

Wally Hall said one wealthy booster businessman spent a year having our athletic program investigated.  Wonder who that was?

I don't know who the new AD is and I don't know who the new coach is going to be..... but what I am 100% sure of is that Gus will not be the coach if HDN is hired to be the AD first! Lol    And, HDN will not be the AD if Gus is hired to be the coach first! Those two guys are oil and water.

fishes2000

can you imagine Nutt telling Dave Van Horn something isn't in the budget? Remember he covers all sports as AD. Plus there is no way Gus would coach for Nutter.

Houston Nutt should never be allowed to have anything to do with Razorback Athletics ever again.

NO.... Don't want the Nutt Posse anywhere close to Fayetteville....

What coach in their right mind would want to work for Nutt? There would be some serious meddling going on...

Justifiable Hogicide

We were in the Nutt House once (thanks Quin Grovey), we paid millions to get out of it.
Ole Miss was in the Nutt House once, and they too had to pay millions to get out of it.
In a time of stupid ideas, bringing that jerkal and his posse back to UA in ANY capacity stands as the worst of all.

I think Nutt would do a great job as AD. I can guarantee we won't ever hire a fb coach to stay here for 10 years and be 4 games over .500 in SEC like he was. He's also got skills to get donations.

"Nutt was handpicked by Broyles to be his successor"
Not Even Close
Broyles wanted Tommy Tuberville who had been successful at 2 different SEC Schools over Nutt who had been at Murray and Boise State.
Tommy refused to go before the Committee without a guarantee of a job because he would have lost the one he had.
Nutt comes in, has 2 Press Conferences, begs for the job, and after about 4 or 5 votes by the Committee is selected OVER BROYLES OBJECTIONS.
If you think I'm making this up feel free to look up and read Orville Henrys articles on the situation. (These kids today would DIE to have the insider info Orville had)
