A loss to Mississippi will likely get Shula fired.

As it should.

Too bad they beat Mississippi a few weeks ago.  A loss to MSU should seal his fate as well.
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

It isn't exactly midseason anymore Stewie.  After today we have 3 more games.  The SECCG is laughable if we lose today.  We will have a bowl no matter what, but Houston wouldn't need to be there.  But, you know what?  I hope he wins out and gets some great offers elsewhere.  He should have been fired after USC.  Now we can wait till after the SECCG if he loses before then, or send him off in style if he wins out.

SC on the road is not the same to losing to MS State at home, or anywhere for that matter.

If we lose to SC today, it shows that all the "improvement" was nothing more than smoke and mirrors constructed by the weak schedule and ONE win.  It would show that Houston Nutt is still who we thought he was.  And unlike Denny Green and the Arizona Cardinals, We better not let him off the hook...

The Pulse

Mike Shula is the worst HC in the SEC..and that includes HDN. Shula doesn't even have any coat tails to ride like Nutt. He's gone. Good luck with your next job Shula. I wonder who Bama is secretly talking (behind closed doors) about hiring right now?

ErieHog

Couldn't happen to a nice team.

Screw Bama.  Screw'em in their snaggle-toothed, cousin breeding,  houndstooth-hat wearing pieholes.

Of course, if you ask my unvarnished opinion, I'll be happy to de-PC this in a PM :)
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Going by the hire history of Arkansas you do realize we will get a up-and-comer from the state of Idaho or a Asst. coach from a BCS program or head coach in the MAC, Sunbelt...etc...

Thus putting our new coach on a VERY SHORT LEASH!!!

Alabama if not so stubborn of trying to stay in the Family when hiring a coach, might just throw MILLIONS at Butch Davis.

I believe you are correct.  I do believe that HDN is a slightly better coach that Shula.  Usually we in Arkansas say, "Thank God for Mississippi."  Well, when it comes to bad coaching we have to say, "Thank God for Alabama and Shula."

I am not disagree-ing with you Hong Kong my freind but that is easy to say now but a coaching merry-go-round and you start from scratch with recruiting and hope the new head coach doesn't bring his own Offensive & Defensive Coordinators, then you will have players transfer etc..... Its kinda like burning down you home in order to have a new one built in 2-3 yrs.  Butch Davis is no longer a option and no major D-1 coach wants to come into a pressure cooker situation where immediate success is the only option (See Ole Miss)

I ask you again who are you candidates?  I am betting you can only list up-and-comers or a ex-NFL coach looking for redemption after being tossed (not retired) from his former team.

Obviously you don't know football. We are improved. There is no debate about it. If we lose tonight, we are still an improved team. If we win it shows me that we are much better than anyone thought we would be this year.

I doubt SC is going to lay down tonight and let us have the game.

Torqued pork

You can thank Mike Price's decadent ways and Bama bringing back their habit of hiring "inside the family" for the mess it's in.

In hindsight, Coach Fran should've stayed at Bama.  He was a real coach.  Shula is way more conservative than Nutt ever thought about being.

You are right.  I don't want any of them.  I'm not even sure I wanted Davis.  I don't see a single available big name HC I would take.  That is even if you include Petrino in your list.  I think you hire the up and comer you scorn, or an excellent coordinator from a perennial top 10 program.  Give me hungry coaches who want to make a name.  When we return to the top under one of these guys, he will stay.  Arkansas has too many advantages to leave when you are on top.  I don't think we could go wrong with Steve Kragthorpe or Greg Schiano.  Both brought dead programs back to life.

Obviously I don't.  I am the Moderator of The Chalkboard because of my sparkling personality.  If we lose to SC, all we have proven is that we can beat Auburn.  If we win, we still have to beat Tennesee and LSU before we prove we are for real.  Oh, by the way, one friggin season isn't good enough.

Neither are acceptable.  Period.
I disagree.  This is a league where anyone can win on any saturday.  Although SC is considered an up and coming team, they have many weapons and a strong coaching staff.  As I said, they aren't even in the same ballpark as Mississippi State.

S Car is a perennial loser program no matter the coach.  I kept reading all this nonsense that they would win the East this year due to Spurrier.  That is a sorry program like an Illinois or Missouri, etc.  No way any coach ever should keep their jobs if they lose 3 straight to S Car especially if they are part of 5-6 and 4-7 seasons and then a loss as the #12 ranked team.  Inexcusable.

You know, We only beat Bama by 1 at home and that was because of Lehigh Tiffin.    MSU just made Bama look baad.

Should we be worried a little more about MSU now?  Remember the game is in Starkville this year...

That's the only solution.

What if they give him a two year free pass like we did Houston?  Would Bama fans go for that?  He did have a 'cloud' like Houston recruiting against the NCAA.

I bet he loves Bama's helmet!  He didn't transfer either while a player.  Wanna show him some loyalty?

This year is the only "pass" he'll get.  If he doesn't win 10 or more next season, his ass is grass.
