We've come to the midpoint of the season, so we're taking a look at the top players in the SEC to this point:

OL Vadal Alexander, LSU: He's one of the nation's best tackles and easily could have left for the NFL draft before the season. He has been an absolute beast for the Tigers this year.

5.8   Buford '12   #11 OG, #17 GA, #234 US

OL Fahn Cooper, Ole Miss: In place of the suspended Laremy Tunsil, Cooper has more than held his own so far at left tackle for the Rebels, and will be even better with Tunsil back.

5.7  College of DuPage '14

5.4  Crystal Lake South '11

OL Sebastian Tretola, Arkansas: He's just a monster inside and has been a big reason for Arkansas' success running through the middle of the field.

5.6  Iowa Western CC '14

5.4  San Bernadino Cajon '10

OL Greg Pyke, Georgia: One of the SEC's best big men, Pyke has been great inside for the Bulldogs and has helped create many a hole up front for Bulldogs backs.

We've come to the midpoint of the season, so we're taking a look at the top players in the SEC to this point:

LB Reggie Ragland, Alabama: If you're looking for your prototypical NFL linebacker, Ragland's your man. He makes plays all over the field, as 34 of his 59 tackles have been solo stops.

6.0  Madison Bob Jones '12  #1 ILB, #4 AL, #43 US

LB Kentrell Brothers, Missouri: Another linebacker who can cover a tremendous amount of ground, Brothers leads the SEC with 91 tackles and has registered 15 or more four times.

5.7  Guthrie '11  #36 OLB, #8 OK

LB Skai Moore, South Carolina: Mr. Versatile can cover, stop the run and get to the quarterback. Moore has a league-high 44 solo tackles and leads all linebackers nationally with four interceptions.

SEC All-Conference picks:  http://es.pn/1W0P9jB

We've come to the midpoint of the season, so we're taking a look at the top players in the SEC to this point:

DB Vernon Hargreaves III, Florida: Arguably the nation's best cover cornerback, Hargreaves has three interceptions and has made it tough for quarterbacks to consistently throw to his side.

Tampa Wharton '13  #1 CB, #1 FL, #2 US

DB Trae Elston, Ole Miss: The hard-hitting, free-roaming safety has four interceptions. His first two picks went for touchdowns.

Oxford '12  #28 S, #14 AL

DB Eddie Jackson, Alabama: He has been a ballhawk over the last three weeks, grabbing four of his league-leading five interceptions, including taking two back for touchdowns.

Lauderdale Lakes Boyd Anderson '12  #48 WR, #14 ATH, #48-56 FL

DB Tre'Davious White, LSU: His numbers are low because quarterbacks don't throw at him. He's been excellent in press-man coverage and has eliminated his side of the field for most of the season.

8 SEC starting QBs at start of year were 3-star or transfers; 16 NFL starting QBs were 3-star or lower. Re: http://Gridironnow.com

QuoteSEC has more than a dozen quarterbacks who were four- or five-star recruits. Most don't start.

Instead, the best quarterback in the SEC was a consensus three-star prospect who was recruited by home-state LSU to play tight end.

What's interesting about SEC quarterbacks is more than half of the starters at the beginning of the season were three-star or lower recruits (Prescott, Dobbs, Missouri's Maty Mauk, Vanderbilt's Johnny McCrary and South Carolina's Perry Orth, a former walk-on) or transfers (Coker from Florida State, Kelly from Clemson via a JC and Georgia's Greyson Lambert from Virginia).

One five-star quarterback has been benched, Kyle Allen at Texas A&M. One four-star recruit has been benched (Auburn's Jeremy Johnson) and another suspended (Florida's Will Grier).

Brandon Allen is the other 4-star.

SPECIAL TEAMS

K Trent Domingue, LSU: More than just a touchdown-scoring kicker, Dominigue has made all seven of his field-goal attempts, including a long of 45 yards.

Walkon  Covington St. Paul '13

P Johnny Townsend, Florida: Townsend is averaging 44.3 yards per punt, has downed 13 inside the 20-yard line, has a long of 61 and has boomed 12 kicks of 50-plus yards.

5.4  Orlando Boone '13  #14 K

RS Evan Berry, Tennessee: He has been fantastic on kickoff returns, averaging 39.3 yards per return (550 total yards) and has two touchdowns.

Key paragraph from @RabalaisAdv's column on #LSU recruiting and #Bama -
http://bit.ly/1Y2dxEo

QuoteSoutheastern Conference's unmatched run of seven straight BCS titles from 2006-12 was built on the strength of its unmatched defensive lines. Players like Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson and Barkevious Mingo, who we saw in the 2011 opener against Oregon track down and tackle from behind LaMichael James, one of that year's fastest players anywhere.

Alabama possessed a mammoth, deep and talented front seven Saturday night, probably the best in college football. It swallowed Fournette and LSU's offense as the Crimson Tide cruised to a not-even-that-close 30-16 victory.

Defensive linemen and linebackers have been problematic recruiting areas for LSU lately. Since 2012, LSU has signed 26 front-seven players. Of those, 16 remain, while one (Ronnie Feist) is a backup fullback.

"Recruiting the front seven is absolutely paramount," said Shea Dixon, recruiting analyst for 24/7 Sports' LSU website. "They can win a lot of games, but if they want to beat Bama they're going to have to find more talent on the front seven."

At linebacker, the problem is potentially getting worse. The Tigers have signed just five since 2013 with Garrett and Melvin Jones no longer around. If Kendell Beckwith goes pro after this season, LSU will return just three scholarship linebackers in 2016...

BLOG: St. James QB Lowell Narcisse and #Auburn commit talks about his season debut tonight.  ->  http://tinyurl.com/pbss9vl

QuoteThe doctors cleared Lowell Narcisse Thursday morning.

His mom cleared him Thursday night.

On Friday, the St. James junior quarterback made his season debut.

Narcisse missed the entire regular season after tearing his ACL in the spring game but returned Friday to help the Wildcats to a 34-21 victory over Green Oaks.

Narcisse ran for two touchdowns and threw for another and also ran two 2-point conversions in the opening round Class 3A victory.

"It felt good getting my feet wet and getting a feel for the game again," said Narcisse.

Narcisse, rated the top dual threat quarterback in the nation in the class of 2017, committed to Auburn right before the season began but was expected to miss the entire season.

"It was up to my mom to make the final decision," Narcisse said.

Stacy Narcisse admits it wasn't an easy choice...
