John-boy!

Ironically, John-Boy was in Fayetteville last week performing at the Walton Center. Did a pretty dang good Atticus Finch.
No reports as to whether he donated anything to NIL while here.

Quote from: theFlyingHog on April 22, 2024, 01:10:13 pm1. Is that a coaching ability?
2. Nobody cares about the past when the present resembles nothing of the sort.
3. That's debatable.
4. Very debatable.
5. See above.
6. You sure about that? I'm not sold that is his doing.
7. Any quotes from him stating that's why he hired former HCs?
8. So does everyone who has watched five minutes of college football.
9. Is that his doing? ("Well it's at least the staff he hired!"). We seem to get most of our transfers from G5 teams and aren't battling big schools for many.

1. Yes. Sure, it's arguably a general leadership quality and not strictly a coaching ability, but it's absolutely a worthwhile skill to have. Look at Cpt. Kirk. Virtually every single skill out there, his 'subordinates' are superior to Kirk in. Spock, Bones, Uhura, Sulu, Scotty, etc... You ask Kirk to take over ANY of their roles and he'd fail miserably. His skill is in bringing them all together and getting them to work towards a common goal.

2. Whether you care or not, it still answers the question asked.

3. If that's debatable, then... debate it. Make your case. You gonna bring up the MSU game last year? The team didn't throw in the towel. I'll give you that the offense almost certainly did, but that's 1/3 of the team. The other 2/3 (Defense and ST) played hard from start to finish.

4. By all means, provide evidence.

5. See above.

6. Do you think the towel boy fired Enos? This is where you people really start to lose me. There's plenty of real critiques about Pittman to make. Why the need to go into conspiracy theory mode and making up elaborate, illuminati-esque rumors about who's really pulling the strings, etc...

7. https://arkansas.rivals.com/news/sam-pittman-on-why-he-s-hiring-former-missouri-head-coach-barry-odom-as-dc

QuoteI felt like I needed a guy on my staff who had been a head coach, one that I could lean on and talk to. There's really not a better person out there, finer coach, finer man than Barry Odom.... but I want some people on that staff who've had some head coaching experience and I can get Barry who's been a head coach in the Southeastern Conference. I just thought it'd be so much help to me and I'm sure that it will."

8. First, your statement is hyperbole. Second, then why have so many prior Ark HC's NOT prioritized recruiting to the extent that Pittman does? As I said to Chi, IMO, praise is earned when you go above and beyond what is normal. Maybe it's obvious to anybody who has sat on a couch and watched 5 minutes of it, but to the people who get paid millions to do this as a living, it's not nearly as obvious to them. Or at least, they haven't prioritized it nearly to the degree than Pittman has.

9. Might want to re-check your math on that. Or better yet, I'll do it for you.

2020: 8 transfers, 6 from P5, 2 not.
2021: 4 power 5, 2 not.
2022: 6 power, 2 not
2023: 9 power, 10 not
2024: 7 power, 7 not

Total of... 32 power and 23 non-power schools. 17 of those power schools were SEC as well.

Eagle Mtn in Batesville had some splotchy greens that are trying to grow in. Didn't ask what the cause was. They weren't bad, though. Fun course.

Quote from: GolfNut57 on Yesterday at 08:30:02 pmHow long is that hole that is a par 6?
Been many years but as I recall it's as much crooked as long.
Long hole aided by a sharp 90 degree turn to the right to follow a fence line.
So it's like you play two shots, make a turn around the corner, then play a few more shots.

Quote from: TheCivilBoar on Yesterday at 05:26:47 pmI have no inside source, no contacts in the know, so this is speculation.

Having said that, I can easily imagine Battle being slow played by Cal right now. We're on that Brea transfer as well as Liam McNeely who is often described as the highest rated uncommitted high school prospect right now. Both sharp shooters. I'd also love Battle to stay, by the way. But I suspect he would if Cal made it clear he wanted him. OTOH, I doubt Cal would turn him away if we come up empty on pure shooters/shooting specialists in the recruiting process.

That leaves the vague game of having someone on your roster but not on the top line.
I think you nailed it.

Would love to have Battle back. It also adds to the goal of being more experienced.

It could still happen depending how things fall.

Quote from: Hog Hog on Yesterday at 09:57:03 amYes, when people mostly just look at your W-L record, it does matter in regard to determining a coach's true worth.

A coaches worth is determined by advancing the program and Winning games is one of the first step in proving ones worth. Talking schedule strength is often not viable till the season is over in reality because of multiple factors one of them being how those teams end up record wise. The reason that smart scheduling is so important is that winning and making a bowl games is what drives recruiting, Donors outlay, positive Press etc. and all this advances the program as a whole.

Ark. Athletic Dept. and a massive amount of the fan bases biggest issue bar none is that they believe they are a blue blood on par with LSU/TEX/OU/BAMA/UGA/UF/Auburn/Tenn. etc. and thus the team schedules that way and put's forth that attitude when looking at the other mid=tier programs in the Conference Mizzou/Miss st/Ole Miss/SC. This has lead to some lack luster performance over multiple seasons.

Mizzou athletic Dept. and most of the fan base understands where we lay in the pecking order of the SEC and CFB. Because of this self reflection we understand that to move up the ladder we have to have a plan and we must implement that plan. And that brings us back to the Fact that Winning games having a Winning record and going to bowl games drives Better  recruiting, increases prestige of the Program and the Coach and increases revenue that builds facilities and pays NIL cash. This plan is the only route to for a mid-tier program to compete in the Land of Blue Bloods.

Bag on smart scheduling all you want but long term Mizzou will benefit from Winning games and all the benefits that come from that fact and it will help the Program move forward in all aspects.

At the end of the day Mizzou has been able to compete in the SEC with limited talent and depth resources because we have often Developed and honed that talent early versus squads who are not P4 programs. This has allowed developmental players to become contributors in the SEC and for us to build depth and stay healthy once the Brutal SEC schedule begins. In that time frame we have won 2 SEC East Conference titles and Won a New Years day bowl last year versus a Blue Blood. Pretty Good Plan IMO.

Quote from: MuskogeeHogFan on April 19, 2024, 08:26:18 pmI think Sam trusted Enos because of his previous association with him. I thought it was a huge mistake. While lots of folks on here were singing the praises of that hire, I kept saying, "big mistake" and everyone on here thought I was crazy.

But after Enos and the availability of BP with the firing of Jimbo, it was all BP, it just took time to get the hire and package cleared with Arkansas.

Certainly not everybody. A number agreed.

I disagreed with you, but didn't think you were crazy. I agreed that there were some red flags, but I believed the green flags outweighed the red.

It was same situation in reverse with Morris. Most of hogville was excited about the hire. I never was. I wanted to be optimistic, but felt that the red flags outweighed the green. Would have much preferred to have been wrong than right though.
