NOLA.com reports the main reason former defensive coordinator John Chavis left for Texas A&M was his frustration with the LSU offense, and that contract negotiations were a non-issue.

Defensive line coach Brick Haley is a candidate for the defensive coordinator job and could move to linebackers, opening the door for a defensive line coach, The New Orleans Advocate reports. In addition, Les Miles has yet to contact Penn State coordinator Bob Shoop, but will likely do so this week, and Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops' candidacy is "not serious."

Huge news for #PennState keeping DC Bob Shoop despite #LSU interest. Shoop helped Nittany Lions to No. 2 ranked D in the nation.

I always thought that was the reason - especially with his comments upon arrival at A&M. Something to the effect he was looking forward to being with a team with a great offense. I mean really the pressure was always on this guy week after week to bail out that anemic LSU offense - that had to get old.

Ron Zook could really help the Tigers especially on the recruiting side.

Ron is a GREAT DC but a utter failure as a head man.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

From @_BenWallace: #LSU FB player allegedly sold game-worn gear. Store owner chooses jail over ratting out player http://bit.ly/1y1Iv4p

QuoteA Baton Rouge shoe store employee recently told police he would rather go to jail than cooperate with authorities in an investigation into some official, game-worn LSU football equipment that recently was sold on eBay, LSU police said.

And go to jail he did.

A police officer contacted Fletcher Sanders, 25, after an investigation revealed that he was the seller of a pair of cleats and gloves advertised on eBay as having been worn during LSU's thrilling upset win against the Ole Miss Rebels...

Sanders told police that he sold the gear for an LSU football player. But when an investigator asked Sanders to name the football player, Sanders clammed up, according to the report.

The officer, in turn, told Sanders that he would be arrested if he did not cooperate, the report says.

"Do what you have to do," Sanders responded, according to the report. "I am not going to be responsible for ruining someone's career."

So police followed up on their promise and booked him into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of principal to theft and possession of stolen things. He was released Tuesday after posting $3,000 bail, booking records show.

Capt. Cory Lalonde, an LSU police spokesman, said investigators believe the unauthorized sale was an isolated incident...

Late-night RT: Public records received show buyout details & communication between #LSU AD Alleva & ex-DC Chavis - http://bit.ly/1Cnb0eh

QuoteLSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva sent a letter to former defensive coordinator John Chavis requesting the coach pay a $400,000 buyout three days before Chavis officially resigned, documents show.

The letter gives Chavis a deadline to pay the buyout and outlines payment options. The documents, which shed light on the buyout situation between the school and Chavis, were obtained by The Advocate through a public-records request.

Chavis, who left LSU for Texas A&M after the Tigers' loss to Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30, submitted a resignation letter to LSU on Jan. 5, four days after he landed in College Station, Texas, with A&M coach Kevin Sumlin. Chavis' letter, two sentences in length, was addressed to LSU coach Les Miles and also was sent to Alleva.

"I have enjoyed my time at LSU and truly wish you the best in the future," Chavis wrote to Miles in the letter.

On Jan. 2, Alleva sent a letter to Chavis requesting the coach pay a $400,000 buyout. In the letter, Alleva writes that LSU is owed the buyout because Chavis broke his contract before Jan. 31, 2015. Chavis' deal did not have a buyout if he left during the last 11 months of the deal.

One LSU football contract was curiously not on agenda at latest LSU Board of Supervisors meeting: http://www.wwltv.com/story/homepage/2015/01/31/lsu-board-approves-new-coaches-contracts-haley-not-on-agenda/22646889/ ...

QuoteBATON ROUGE – The LSU Board of Supervisors approved the new contracts of six assistant football coaches, but the new contract of former defensive line coach Brick Haley was not considered at the meeting held on the campus of LSU at Shreveport on Friday morning.

"It wasn't on the agenda," LSU board member Ronald Anderson of Baton Rouge said after the meeting. "And I'm not sure when it's going to come up."

Haley signed a new, two-year contract in December at approximately $450,000 a year to remain LSU's defensive line coach, a position he had held since 2009 when he came to LSU from the same job with the Chicago Bears to join new defensive coordinator John Chavis...

Steele, as previously reported, will be making $1 million a year for two years in his contract, and Orgeron will be making $450,000 a year for two years as well. There was no open discussion of the new coaches' contracts by the board...

Exactly the reason I thought. He got tired of carrying the load all the time and Les doing nothing about offense.
