Damien Harris ready to end recruiting stress

About a month ago, Madison Southern running back Damien Harris admitted he did have a "fairly good idea" about where he wanted to go to college.

On Friday at 1:15 p.m., the state's top-ranked player will officially tell everyone whether that choice will be Kentucky, Alabama or Ohio State during a ceremony at his high school.

Harris ran for a game-high 110 yards on 16 carries — and a 36-yard touchdown — during the Under Armour All-American Game in Tampa.

The nation's No. 1 running back and No. 11 overall senior, according to Rivals.com, ran 99 times for 1,474 yards (14.9 per-carry average) and 23 touchdowns in only seven games as a senior (he missed four games with a knee injury.) He is Kentucky's second all-time leading scorer with 738 career points and also second in career touchdowns (122) and career rushing touchdowns (113). He ran for 2,621 rushing yards as a junior, and during his career scored 42 points in a game three times. For his career, Harris averaged 12.48 yards per carry and a TD every 4.7 carries.

LSU picked up its fourth commitment for 2016 as the Tigers landed Ponchatoula (La.) offensive lineman Donavaughn Campbell according to sources.

The big 6-foot-6, 340-pounder started on both sides of the ball for Ponchatoula and is projected to play guard for the Tigers.

That could change if Berea, Ky., 5-star Damien Harris announces for Alabama on Friday.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Harris will make his decision at 12:15 p.m. CT at his high school. It will be Alabama, Kentucky or Ohio State, though most believe it's down to Alabama and Kentucky...

Rebels' 2015 class currently sits at No. 17 in the 247Sports rankings. But what happens in the weeks leading up to National Signing Day could have Ole Miss falling or climbing considerably.

Here's Ole Miss' recruiting to-do list.

1. Keep the commits

Two of Ole Miss' highest-ranked prospects are seriously considering other options.

Priority No. 1 is keeping them committed.

Dandy Dozen linebacker Leo Lewis has been committed to Ole Miss since September but has visits planned to Mississippi State and LSU. He openly admits his recruitment isn't over.

The nation's top inside linebacker not only has impact talent, but he also fills a major positional need for the Rebels.

The same goes for Drew Richmond.

The five-star offensive tackle is planning other visits, and those close to his recruitment believe Tennessee is still very much in the picture...

2. Get CeCe

CeCe Jefferson has been topic of message board chatter for weeks, if not months.

The five-star defensive end named the Rebels his leader not long ago. If Ole Miss hangs on and gets his signature on a National Letter of Intent, it would be a huge recruiting spark. But he's far from a done-deal. Florida is still in the picture...

3. Add WR, because why not?

Ole Miss doesn't necessarily need help at wide receiver.

But when the likes of DeMarkus Lodge and Van Jefferson are interested, you don't say no.

4. Fill needs

In a perfect world, Ole Miss would add another linebacker and offensive tackle to its 2015 class.

However, pickings are slim at this point.

Four-star offensive tackle Toby Weathersby from Texas will be a name to watch. He has official visits planned to Ole Miss, Arkansas and LSU this month...

LSU gets another big 2016 commitment in St. Augustine's Jamal Pettigrew

The 6-foot-6, 225-pound [TE] prospect picked LSU over scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Miami, Florida and many others. Pettigrew becomes the fifth commitment for the Tigers in the 2016 class, with four of those commitments coming from within Louisiana's borders.

1) LSU just upgraded its recruiting staff big-time

John "Chief" Chavis is a very talented defensive coordinator, but he's not much of a recruiter. Defensive line coach Brick Haley, who could soon join Chavis at Texas A&M, isn't bad, but he's clearly no Ed O. Steele is going to help LSU get more traction in states like Tennessee, Kentucky and the Carolinas...

2) Auburn has a fantastic recruiting staff

Auburn, along with LSU, probably wins the award for best recruiting staff upgrade this offseason. Auburn already added defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson -- both clear upgrades over Ellis Johnson and Melvin Smith -- but Lance Thompson is the icing on the cake.

This is a guy who AJ McCarron called the "best recruiter ever" after he successfully convinced him to head to Tuscaloosa. A guy who successfully recruited players like Mark Barron, Julio Jones and Rashaan Evans during his three stints at Alabama. He's a terrific recruiter who is currently ranked the nation's fifth-best, according to 247Sports...

3) Alabama is going to reload

In a span of 24 hours, Alabama lost two of the nation's top recruiters. It is doubtful Nick Saban is too worried about it, even if each is going to an SEC West rival.

Throughout his tenure at Alabama, Saban has done a good job of replacing his assistants when they are inevitably poached by other programs. He clearly values recruiting prowess and it'd be wise to assume he's going to add two talented recruiters to his staff to replace Thompson and Steele. With the departure of his two linebackers coaches, he could even shift responsibilities around and add a defensive backs coach....

Alabama still has a very talented recruiting staff -- Mario Cristobal is rated the nation's top recruiter --

Defensive back Rico McGraw, one of the top players in the state of Tennessee, has withdrawn his verbal commitment to Bama.

McGraw officially visited Alabama earlier this month, but will visit Georgia this weekend according to Barton Simmons of 247Sports. The AJC reports that McGraw has an in-home visit with UGA defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Alabama is deep with secondary recruits, but McGraw is a talented player. He competed in the Army All-American Game.

McGraw, a 4-star recruit, is the No. 144 recruit nationally on the 247Sports composite, the No. 20 safety and the No. 6 player in the state of Tennessee.
