One of Auburn's locker room favorites has decided to leave the program in search of another opportunity.

Defensive back Michael Sherwood is no longer with the team and will attempt to join another program as a graduate transfer.

A 5-foot-9, 175-pound former walk-on, Sherwood -- nicknamed "Dirty Mike" --

Sherwood was one of seven walk-ons to earn a scholarship during fall camp last year.

According to coach Gus Malzahn, Gonzalez is "in the process of looking for a junior college" and will not play at Auburn this season.

Gonzalez, a three-star safety, had been working to finish a high school course in order to become academically eligible. At SEC Media Days last month, Malzahn did not appear concerned about the status of Gonzalez.
