List of MLB #1 draft picks, according to Wiki, since 1965:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_first_overall_Major_League_Baseball_draft_picks

List of NBA #1 draft picks, according to Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_first_overall_NBA_draft_picks

Forgive me if I've missed something here, but it appears this is the first time (at least since 1965, so 1st time in at least 50 years if not ever) that the #1 MLB and #1 NBA draft picks came from the same college conference in the same draft year.

Given that the 2014-15 SEC POYs for basketball and baseball are both from Arkansas (as well as the fact that a ton of other first round 2015 MLB and NBA draft picks from the SEC), I figured this is kind of a neat achievement.  Congrats to them and the school.  :)

(*Ricepig, make fun of me if you wish, but I wanted to share at least one non-Bentonville High "stat drop", and frankly, this is a surprisingly cool one.)  :razorback:

A little more digging:

The SEC becomes the first ever conference, high school or college, at least in 50 years (if not ever) to furnish both the #1 and #2 overall picks in an MLB draft:

In the NBA, good ole' Kentucky tied the record with North Carolina (2005) for most lottery picks from one school:

This has been a historic season for the SEC even as the championships weren't there yet.  But again, says something that Arkansas had the SEC POYs in these two sports.  Building toward something even bigger.

I could be wrong, but I believe the SEC had the most first round picks in the NBA, NFL, and MLB drafts this season vs any other conference. This is just a guess based on what I can recall off the top of my head from each draft. If someone wants to do the research, I'd readily admit I was wrong but it certainly seemed like we lead the first round in all three.

Lots of good news this school year:

Arkansas recently finished the 2014-15 year ranked 16th in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup, a competition that tracks the nation's most successful intercollegiate athletics programs for their performances throughout the year. The 16th-place ranking was the best national finish since the scoring format was adopted. (snip)

The Razorbacks ranked fourth among Southeastern Conference programs. Arkansas is the only Division I school in the nation this year to have won a bowl game, games in both the NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments and an NCAA Baseball Regional.

Academically, Razorback student-athletes posted a program record cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.24, with more than 60 percent of student-athletes achieving a 3.0 GPA or better.
