The only way Tuberville is getting any consideration is if Scanlon said no.

The only thing Mike Leach has ever one is a press conference. Take a look at his defense. He doesn't play any! We are going to be a far worse position if we hire this joker.

His defense is ranked 11 this year and it is spelled WON not ONE but nice try

If BOT is running the show I sure hope they offer Norvell or Leach.

Leach is a fairly distant 3rd for me. I'd support him, though.

Agreed. All 3 would be a welcome sight on the hill.

I prefer Gus as a proven winner with ties to Arkansas, like Leach as a hugely colorful character who is a winner and puts fun teams on the field .... Leach also coached in Texas, that is a huge plus.... Norvell seems the most untested of the three -- yes there is some considerable upside and he might be great, also most likely to fall flat.

If it were me based on what I know:

1. Gus
2. Leach
3. Norvell

I'm in complete agreement!

I know. Well except for 11-29 in the SEC.

Well we have 2 that it's supposedly their dream job, but when you look at both it's 2 very different situations.

MN:  You are getting a young hungry coach that wants to move up to P5 and Arkansas is supposedly his dream job so when he has a list of P5's to choose from being his dream job helps landing him.  He's also young enough where he wants to make major coin for several years and see how high he can take a team.

GM:  You are getting an established P5 head coach that could be looking for security and less headaches.  It's a lateral move in terms of profession.  So is he coming home to wreck the SEC or is he escaping AU headaches for a more comfortable lifestyle and QoL?

They both scare the hell out of me.  MN could be the Stan Heath of football and GM could be the next Bielema (just making a move because of issues at current school and maybe not hungry enough to do what it takes to make Arkansas a top contender).

BossHawg_Outlaw

I would like to see what Leach can do with the money to get better assistants and a top DC.  Chavis will be looking for a job soon.

Looks like Scanlon will be our next AD.  If he does turn it down, the PTB will choose between Trainor or Varady.

On to football. It's still Gus' job to turn down.  Norvell is the clear #2 at this point.   The wild card is that Mike Leach has some pretty influential people behind him and they are letting it known that he wants the job.

That's all I've got for now.

Porkatarian out...

Tell your sources to please hire Kiffin.

Porkette

If it ended up being Leach...

People are talking about his wacky personality, but really, here in Arkansas as a state and a program we are plenty weird ourselves. We play in 2 stadiums, and we argue over playing Arkansas State and the wolf yap in the hog call. He just might be weird enough to fit in here.  ;)

I still believe that would have been figured out.  Enos would have left this year and we would have gotten back to building a mauling run game with a TE based PA pass attack.

I know none of you fellows have the patience to accept that as a possibility though.
All Gas, No Brakes!

I do like the thought of Leach bringing a high-scoring offense back to Fayetteville.  Trying to be Alabama hasn't worked out, so maybe our best chance for success in the SEC is to go with a more Petrino-like approach where we outpace our opponents on the scoreboard and make enough plays on defense to win the game.

On Gus, his offense is not as innovative as it once seemed.  He's reverted to a more conservative approach while using some hurry-up and a few trick plays... but nothing that spectacular.  And he's having decent success so far this year, but limited success over the last 2 - 3 year before... and doing so with top 10 recruiting classes.  I don't think having Gus up here is going to have a big effect on our overall recruiting classes, so he would have to figure out how to get more out of less if he comes here... and I don't feel comfortable that he can do that.

It just struck me that if our options are Gus, MN, Cap'n Pirate, and Charlie Strong (who Pork mentioned in this thread), then we are certainly a damsite further along as a program than we were when either CBB or CBP got here.

All four of those names are a heckuva lot better than Tommy Bowden, Jim Grobe, John L, Tim Horton... or whatever mediocre name used to be bantered about.  That's the argument I'd use to Nari Dorkwah or whomever wants to refer to us as SEC flyover country or the worst team in the west.

Why is Varady not the top candidate for AD?  Find a handshaker to lead the RF. As far as HC is concerned, all the candidates offer hope. But it's hard to imagine Gus would have been as successful as Leach at Tech and Wazzu. Kiffin brings the most star power...  Should be interesting.

If TT then would he be more likely to go after a defensive coach like Venebles if Gus falls through.

I guess I'm asking why they would form a search committee if the targets have already been approached and engaged.

That's assuming the PTB are going to let him make the decision. They have made the coaching decision and are telling the AD who he/she will hire
