We were there for a week in Oct '13. We spent an hour or so walking around the Memorial grounds. A lot of people were wanting pics taken as they stood in front of the pools, as did we. I know it's a habit to smile when getting your pic taken, but I was uncomfortable to do so w/ a big grin on my face, just didn't feel right.

Just got back from NYC last night. The whole 9/11 Memorial including the Freedom Tower is a moving experience.
