If anything they are even more arrogant than kentuckey fans.

"I think we are locked in and have a BIG chip on shoulder.  After a brief feeling out period, I think UNC mops the floor with them and sends a message nationally that this team is in it to win it. "

"we are going to have a pig pickin with these clowns"   "It is going to be brutal. HEELS win big. They are trash and we will expose them."

I really hope we are the team that sends them home from the tournament.

I've lived and work there. NC fans can be just as arrogant and feeling entitled as KY fans. About the only time I cheer for them is when they play Duke.
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.

I guess you were without sight when UAB beat 1 seed Kentucky?

Trying to give you the benefit of the doubt and not conclude you are just under informed.

Wisconsin and Nova are tied.  8 vs. 1 seed.

Just didn't think of ancient history; I was thinking more of the past few years.

But props to him for that accomplishment 13 year and two programs ago.

Think we're gonna have to do much of the same in playing at a slower tempo. I know that's not our style, but I think if we do play fast, they'll out run us and it'll get ugly.

It is your belief that by playing to our own weaknesses will make us better?

I didn't say that this year's team has done it, just that MA's teams have shown that they can both win and lose to anyone.

I think it will give us a better chance and make it close. Not half court every possession, but we're gonna have to pick and choose when we can go uptempo. It likely won't happen regardless.

I think you just hit the nail on the head here.

PonderinHog

Down goes #1 seed Nova to #8 seed Wisconsin!

JayHog

We've won all year by winning the second half of our games. Why? Because our depth wore most teams down. That's what we do. Dance with who brought you. Let's try to wear them down and hope that our bench and outscore their bench. If we can keep it to single digits most of the game and it gets down to the last 10 minutes, anything can happen. But we need to stick to what we do (and that's to wear teams down and win the 2nd half)

I don't hold it against UNC fans for being arrogant. A few fan bases (them, Duke, Kentucky and in recent past Kansas and UCLA)

Our fans had that kind of swagger 20 years ago. You just have to be careful rubbing in your superiority, people love to see the great ones falter.

Given their proclivities, we should challenge their team to a spelling bee.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Bogghawg

Wisconsin winning is encouraging, and I hate to say it, but I think UNC is a better one seed than 'Nova and the Badgers are probably a better 8 seed than us.  Still believe we can win, but not counting on it.

You just keep stepping in it junior.

You are talking about a coach with wins over guys like Bill Self, Huggins, Calipari, Martin. Programs like Cincinnati, Kansas, Kentucky, #3 Memphis.

How can you be ignorant about your own team's coach and believe yourself to be clever at the same time?

joeyself

Been a long time since I've been called "junior."  You should be around 80 to use that term with me.

Mike Anderson's career before coming here is of little (read: no) interest to me.  Different players, different coaching staff, different motivation.  I don't keep up with such like I did when I was 12, reading the back of bubble gum cards.

It's going to come down to shooting. If we're insanely hot from three (and it happens) we can win. I don't think we match up as well inside, but Moses Kingsley can definitely prove me wrong.

Exactly. We've beaten 0 teams that are in the top 25. That's how we can win 25 games and not be even close to being in the top 25 ourselves and an 8 seed vs a 4 or 5 like other teams that won 25 games this year.

All that being said, i hope tomorrow is the first! Go Hogs!

Too our credit .. we haven't got to play but 5 games against top 25 teams we did beat south Carolina while they were ranked .. but out of the 5 we only got 1 at home ..  most teams don't beat other top 25 teams on the road either .. and yes I understand tommorow is by no means a home game but it is just something I have thought about ..

UNC is Kentucky without a sleazy used car salesman on the bench.  They throw waves of talent at you and play fundamentally sound basketball. Mike needs to use Nolan's "us against the world" mentality to create a chip on the shoulder of our guys. He needs to tell them the elites expect nothing from them and they need to fight for respect. They have nothing to lose and should leave it all on the floor.

Uh-huh.  From the get-go UNC will dominate the boards.  As long as the 3's are falling Arkansas can compensate and stays in the game but CRW knows full well the easy way for a deep and talented team like UK and UNC to beat CMA's teams are to lure them into running faster and faster until their level of play deteriorates and the legs start to go and Arkansas hits one of those 5 minute spells without a basket while UNC puts the game away.  Then its just mopping up at the FT line.

It won't be the dominating game the Tar Heel fans expect.  It may even be close till as late as midway in the 2nd half then UNC gradually creeps out past a 20 point lead around the 5 minute mark, Arkansas makes a last run to pull it to about 10 points with a couple of minutes left and wears out with the final margin being between 15 points.

Pretty standard glass half empty - glass half full performance against a good tourney quality opponent.

I hope the team feels the same way. The more they underestimate us, the better the chance we have.

niels_boar

UNC is perhaps the worst matchup in the nation for us.  Our depth is no advantage. They are imminently equipped to exploit our weakness on the boards.  The have long athletes that we don't matchup with very well.  We won't be able to guard them if they make treys.  Our best hope is to win a shootout.  They aren't exactly the ideal team to defend us either.  Our stars have to play like stars for forty minutes, and we probably need to get some unexpected points from somewhere down the bench to actually get the upset.  That's not going to all happen very often, but we only need it happen for one day.
The jawbone of an ass is just as dangerous a weapon today as in Sampson's time.

We got exactly one chance at winning this game.  1.  Their players take us totally lightly and we play 4 quarters of Total Effort Ball.  That could happen.
