You wake up and smell the good coach.  We've been to the SEC Championship twice now under Nutt.  And last year, we had a chance to win it had Fish not botched that punt return.  YES, we're moving in the right direction, in my opinion.  I do'n't need to wake up and smell anything, you do.

IMO you cant really count the championship game in 02. Alabama had the best record but were on probation.

Plus we got absolutley hammered that game. The final was 30-3 but it was much much worse than that. One true division title in 9 years doesnt exactly scream of a coach thats building a successful program.

We need a good coach that doesnt accept division championships as super bowl championships.

Arkansas isn't a 10-12 win program, especially in the modern SEC;  there are a handful of such programs that do exist, and almost all of them have either dominant talent pools or relevant tradition.     Arkansas is, after 9 years with Nutt, a 7-9 win Program.    There is no shame in that--- its simply a reflection of how things are, not how anyone wishes them to be-- we were a 4 win program before he arrived.    The road to the top started with respectability, which we've gained; its dogged by inconsistency, which we've struggled with--- and the remainder is long, and hard, and there are no 'quick fixes'.     Can Nutt lead the Hogs on towards the 9 win mark more consistently?   We'll see;  if he can't win 8 or 9 with this bunch, he's likely done.

LSU was a terrible program for a while too. Then they were a 7-9 win program and then they got a good coach and look at them now.

Georgia also was a 7-9 win program under Jim Donnan. They got rid of their mediocre coach and got a good coach and won 2 SEC titles.
OKlahoma also sucked. Texas sucked. Both got good coaches and turned their programs into powerhouses.

It can be done here with a good coach that aspires to be more than a division winner, trust me.

LSU sits on a massive talent bed, as does Texas;  Texas and OU have relevant tradition (they've won big in the lifetimes of kids going to school these days).

You don't have to have both, but you have to have at least one of the two.  We have neither.

and what does WV have?

Let's see. 

- Some of the best returning players in the country and possibly in school's history
- Arguably the best backfield in the country
- Early round NFL type receiver with strong depth and talent at all receiving positions
- Starting QB from a 10 win season (in Nutt's mind)
- Best addition to staff in College Football history (David Lee for third time)
- Commining off an unprecedented 10 win season (Huggers really like to hang their hat on this one)
- The removal of the sources causing team turmoil from previous year (coaches and players alike)
- Houston Nutt as the head coach leading both team and band. 

Sounds about right to me.

yeah...if we went 10-4 with all the cancer on the team I expect Nutt should be able to go 14-0 now that he ran the cancer off.

Superior location, and a much lighter conference slate for starters.    Before you guffaw at location, remember that Morgantown sits smack dab in the middle of some great recruiting ground (Virginia, Western PA, Ohio, and North Carolina) , and is within 450 miles of over 50% of the entire US population.  Arkansas is within 450 miles of about 30% of the population-- and that matters a great deal, when it comes to the ability to recruit cost effectively.

Oh, and they've played for a National Title in the lifetime of new recruits.

For me, this all started several years before HDN took over as coach.  The reason I think he's bad for the school is that he's already done as much as he's ever going to do as head coach at the UA.

I don't hate the man, but I think his best days are behind him and it's time to move forward.
