12.07.2012: first effort. I included every player who appears to be currently on scholarship and can return to UA for the 2013 season. Returning starters are in BOLD; there is reason to quibble about some positions. Commitments or Signees not yet enrolled and on campus are listed in ITALICS.

Posters are encouraged to post questions or corrections. If you are wanting to debate merits of the depth chart for a position, who will really start, etc., please start a new thread in the recruiting forum.

04.25.2013: Kelvin Fisher moved to safety and Kody Walker moved to RB, per Jack Johnson.
05.06.2013: Brandon Mitchell and Keante Minor transferring. Mitchell graduates, and wll gain immediate eligibility.

09.04.2013: McKay removed from roster.

We definitely need a JUCO DT who can provide some depth.

Also I wonder how much 5-2 or 3-4 we will play this upcoming season against good run teams. Just by looking at the DE's Smith, Flowers and Flynn all stood up at some point this past season and I would think Kelly-Thomas could as well as he is a former LB.

Need a JUCO at each level of the defense, and probably both a safety and cornerback.

The one concern about moving players - will we assess the speed aspect in a timely manner, or will it be like this fall when it took 3 weeks to learn that Tank was not cut out to be a MLB?

I think we will be alright if we don't get a JUCO safety. Gaines should only get better, I hope Bennett has a bounce back year and it will be interesting to see how Lowe does in spring ball.

Defense should be solid next year. Much improved.

A 4-3 defense may be a bad idea given the obvious issues we're headed for at linebacker. Lake and Mitchell aren't anywhere near SEC caliber and we don't even have another middle linebacker. We have three decent LBs and that's it. I think a 4-2-5 may be in order, if Bielema is familiar with it. Given the fact that he cares more about the DL, he may not care how the back 7 are arranged.

Throw Taylor Reed in the mix at qb. The kid from Eldorado who transferred from Memphis and redshirted last year.

Thought Thomas (DL) was finished, wasn't he a Senior this year? If we have to start Hurd we are still in trouble. He is great for adding depth, but footwork is terrible for playing in the SEC. We look deep at the G position, but need more help at T. What is the deal with Beck? We have always been told he has tremendous potential. Also still wondering about Ollison. We have also been told that he would be playing on Sunday one day. Time to step up guys. You are needed.

La1hog

I have a sneaky suspicion that Philon will be a beast before he finishes his career as a Razorback. He came in with a chip on his shoulder. I am sure hoping he does. That would be a great story.

Williams at LB was a senior, correct?  I think he is done.  We need LB help badly!

Last year doesn't even count in my mind. I don't have a problem giving a bunch of the returning players a pass for the 2012 season. The utter lack of coaching made them look a lot worse than they did in 2011. Now that we have a real coach again, who hopefully hires real assistants, we should see our returning guys improve drastically relative to the 2012 season. That being said, I don't have my hopes up for 2013, but do expect to go to a bowl.

Lake City Hog

How about D Hodge at the tackle spot? He played quite a bit this year and should be much better this next season. I would have to label Small as a returning starter, he was the starter when he was injured.

You don't have Beck or Dannenhauer listed on the 2 deep on the O'Line?

Thomas was a junior last season. The Hogs have several lineman that will make significant improvement with the right coaching. Cook, Smothers, and Dannahaur should all be better under Coach B.

Thomas came here 3-to-play-3. Ollison played some at FB early. Worry he can't bulk enough to play OL and will need to find a spot. FB would seem a possibility. Beck had a long way to go when he got here. Curious what happens when we get rid of the scheme (where we flip sides and have a complicated read system) and get more roadgrading calls for the OL. Might change things for several of the OL.

The thought of that scares me. We tried that this year and lost Tank. Coming in to the year he was our best DE so when it didn't work out we lost a LB and our best DE.

lake should be put at strong saftey. He was put at linebacker because we had no other reasonable options. This is the price you pay recruiting 3 linebackers in 2 years. Anyway there is a new sheriff in town, but it will take a while to get fully established at all positions.

Agreed.  He was built for this type of offense.  I do think we will see a lot more 2 TE sets though than we have in the past.  I expect to see 1 blocking TE in the game with a receiving TE at the same time.

One of the unfortunate byproducts of the new coach (and there aren't many) is that we missed out on JUCO recruits who are mid-term guys and not already committed. We will still grab a couple, but we could benefit from 1-2 others but they just aren't going to sign with UA unless they have seen the campus.

Having typed that, it appears a couple will sign with UA who have yet to visit campus. Talk about a leap of faith! Those players deserve extra special "love" from the fans.
