Just do your research Chief, you don't want to get caught on the outside looking for work, look at the job possibilities in the area you want to settle, talk to potential employers, if you still want to fly talk to the highway patrol (or local law enforcement if they have aviators) or the local hospital and see if you can get a contact or maybe even a job offer before you decide to drop paperwork.....

This is a good option and I can speak about the TX HP(DPS). There is a top notch aircraft division w/ fixed wing, rotary and  business jet class aircraft in the fleet.

Currently the DPS is hiring. However the caveat is, before you can go into aircraft you have to do time as a trooper before "promoting" to Aircraft. The patrol school is 23 weeks.

It's projected with  impending retirements of current commissioned troopers over the next 2 years that DPS can't keep up w/ the manpower needs. The legislature has been very good in keeping up w/ salaries of the larger PD's so the pay is competitive if not better now.

To all of you, thanks for your service and like any job the "wall" is real, even in the private sector. You guys live through the weak leadership day in and day out but rest assured we civilians see it as well.
Have you ever listened to someone  or read what they put into thoughts and wondered...."who ties your shoelaces for you?"
