He can stay at TCU for as long as he wants and they will build a statue of him and name things after him. He isn't going anywhere.

You know that's true but a coach with his phylosophies would be great.  Lean on speed, put an offense together that plays to your recruits strengths, lean on speed and play great team football.

Might add the Easter Bunny as well. Same probability as 1-4. Maybe in 2019 there will be a change.

Those weren't unrealistic targets, well Gundy is, but  Mike Leach only makes $3MM a year and I bet Ia St. and Purdues coach don't make anywhere near what we're paying right now.

I think so, Lanny just started a post saying everyone needed to be fired by January 1st 2018, so I think he's cool with it......

Not so fast my friend. Wilson is busy crafting an elegant post about his weekend and inner peace. Soon he will be back raining down fire and brimstone upon posts he is tired of seeing. He might even ban Lanny.

We'll probably have to settle for an up and comer. You'd think an SEC West team wouldn't have to settle for an up and comer. If that's what we have to settle for, then maybe the SEC is not for us.

Dan Mullen was OC at Florida before coming to Mississippi State
Gus Malzahn came to Auburn after one year as a head coach at A-State
Hugh Freeze also went to Ole Miss after a year at A-State
Kevin Sumlin came in from Houston when they were still in C-USA and he was considered an up-and-comer

Of the 14 current SEC coaches, only 4 were previously a head coach at a Power 5 school prior to where they are now (Saban, Orgeron, Bielema, and Muschamp)  Of those four, only Bielema went directly from coaching a power 5 team to his current position, with Orgeron being the DL coach at LSU and not being a head coach since 2007, Muschamp being a DC again prior to going to USCe and Saban coming to Bama from the Miami Dolphins.

As you can see, hiring successful power 5 coordinators or young head coaches from G5 is actually a very SEC thing over the last 6 or 7 years.

So I'll tell you the traits we need to look for in a coach.
The next coach has to do something EXCEPTIONAL. Meaning, some aspect of his coaching ability must be exceptional (recruiting, motivating, scheming, etc). This is to make up for the lack of recruiting.
-HDN for example was an exceptional motivator. Occasionally he would motivate the team to beat a team we shouldn't and more times than not would win the games he should.
-CBP of course, was exceptional at many aspects of coaching.  He was an exceptional motivator but did it in a totally different way, through fear.  He was exceptional at many other aspects as well, that I won't mention here.

As for the coaches discussed, I think Chip Kelley probably is exceptional at offensive schemes, game plans, etc. Frankly the others mentioned I haven't done my research on but I will. I'd say Chad Morris may be good due to his offense and recruiting connections but can't say for sure.

Yes please. Good offensive mind who might consider this his dream job. I have no doubt he'd give it his all. Not half-assed attempts to "not lose" and end up getting embarrassed like Bert.

If Jeff Long is making the hire, the following may be the list.

Skip Holtz
Jim Grobe
Paul Rhoads
Rick Stockstill

Please not Mike Leach.  He gets his QBs killed with little protection and throws 10 bubble screens a game.  I will give him credit (or maybe it's his DC) as they actually playing defense this year for maybe the first in Leach's career.  I love Leach on the radio or TV but I hate his style of football throwing 60 times a game and can't run for one yard when you need it (yes, I know we can't either but that is another issue).  Mizzou basically plays Leach ball and look where they are it.

I want a dual threat QB for sure but whoever we get has to recruit and develop lineman on both sides of the ball.  that's where games are won and lost.  Brent Venables would be my choice and probably is someone who we could get.

HogFoo

Not Leach.  Dude is a loon!  We've already had our fill with crazy when we hired Smiley!  Don't want us to be called the Hog Pirates.   The coach at Iowa st would be a great hire for a newcomer if we couldn't find a big name with fire still in his belly to win.  If I remember correctly he was the coach at Toledo when they beat us, and he just beat chokelahomo with a bunch of Paul Rhodes players.  So, he'd be pretty good.  If we went young dude, I'd like the Iowa 1st coach.  I'd prefer , like I said someone proven, who went to the NFL, didn't quite make it and then is just sitting around or has a tv gig killing time until his next job.  With that said, I'd like chip Kelly as mentioned.  Dudes offense would be very fun, similar to Petrino, and I think we'd beat probably 90% of the teams in our league on a steady basis.  But, we don't have a coaching job open yet.  If Bielema doesn't fire Anderson before or after the seasin, then I say it's time to get rid of Bielema.  And if we do, then I like many others want chip kelly!

We're not getting Kelly, and Mike Leach has got a good thing going.  Brohm's not leaving Purdue after one year.  Someone like Norvell is a realistic target, not sure if he's actually from Arkansas or not, but I think holds some records for a WR at UCA, and his wife is from AR.  Next coach has GOT to be a dynamic offense kind of guy, we've got a new high $ addition to the north end zone that we have to pay for.

Why would think we wouldn't get Kelly?  If it is all speculation and opinion at this point , who knows.  We don't know the motivation of any of these guys, so I don't presume to think anyone's opinion is greater or lesser than another's.  It's all speculative at this moment, and we don't even have an opening as of yet.  Hell, simply firing and hiring a top OL coach/recruiter would do wonders for this team!  It's probably save Bielema his job if he just fired Anderson right now then went out and took a mountain of cash to the next guy on the top10 list and paid him whatever it took to get him to Arkansas!  But, in the mean time, I'll hold on to my guess that we could in fact get a Chip Kelly if we tried.  I doubt it'll be him, but, like I said, all speculation.

In fact, I'd so venture a guess as to say, if we did fire Bielema at year's end, that we'd either hire Paul Rhodes or Dan enos.  Which, neither of those excite me.   If for whatever reason we couldn't get a "name" guy, and went the route of up and comer, then again, the coach at Iowa st, that beat ChokeU today , and who coaches Toledo when they beat us wouldn't be a bad hire in my opinion.  Perhaps even Brent Venables would be good choice.  Ugh.  The though of another rebuild sucks!

How bout we keep pretending we should be pro style. We don't recruit well enough for it. Its time for a scheme and system guy

You mean pro style isn't a scheme or system? No wait it is.
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.

I wish people would stop with the "out Bama Bama" crap. Any offense can work as long as you have coaching and the right personnel.

The Spread offense won't save Arkansas football.

Implementing a spread read option and/or run-n-shoot based philosophy will allow Arkansas to successfully recruit talent that we can actually land.  We cannot attract 5* talent and we cannot close 5* talent. So we need a system that allows 3* & 4* talent to compete with 5* talent.

Adopting and embracing a more wide open philosophy will also attract fresh, young coaching talent at a lower price point.  So the economics can make sense too.

A solid system, with system specific coaching can be competitive and exciting to watch.  Both are needed.

So, yes.  A 'Spread' offense can save Arkansas Football.

I'm afraid this might be about the truth. If Long is doing the hiring, wouldn't be surprised if Les Miles and Gene Cheesedick are also on his list. Let's get a new AD first, and then a new coach.
Swinging on the two and the four.

No brainer, Mike Norvell at Memphis. As offensive coordinator he was dynamite at Tulsa, Arizona State and Pitt. All 3 programs were big winners while he was there and in his 2nd season at Memphis he'll have them in the Top 25 again by year's end. They beat UCLA already this year. Arkansas ties, young, great recruiter.

He is probably the most realistic.  UCF completely destroyed them but they are a much better team than Memphis.  I am ready for a read option type athletic QB.  I just don't want a Texas Tech/Mike Leach guy who throws 60 times a game and can't run for one yard and plays no defense.  I want balance on offense but a QB who can pose a running threat.

Mike Leach wants the job. The timing of his comments about War Memorial are no coincidence. He has a respect for pur program and I believe he could make little rock games great again too
Uhh, no.  He was making it a point to downplay Autzen Stadium by referencing an obscure football stadium in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The only problem is that, though Leach did do great with Texas Tech and is doing wonderously with Washington State, that's not the SEC. He was in the Big 12 when the Big 12 was still pretty tough, but not SEC tough, and the Pac-12 really isn't that tough of a conferance. Leach is good, but I just don't know if he could turn us into his next Washington State.....
Yes, but he's had Texas Tech and Washington St. talent and resources, so it all equals out. Bottom line, the guy can win.  I would argue the Pac-12 North is at the top of toughest divisions in football this year.

To be a few hours from the Metroplex...center-stage for Spread/Air Raid talent.

How do you know Chip Kelly works with Boosters and I'm tired of NFL guys. We don't recruit the players to play pro style and need to run a college type of offense. This pro style stuff is shown to be a failure under Bielema

And yet, it wasn't a failure under Petrino. Arkansas can recruit any players needed if the coach can recruit. BB can't sell the program and can't recruit. HDN was a better recruiter than BB. Each year, when more of BBs true recruits (without Pittman) began to see the field, the product on the field got worse.  It's Beliema, not Arkansas. Arkansas sent three RBs to the "pros" in a single draft. Arkansas can run pro style if the coach can recruit it.
"DO NOT POST IN THE GAME THREAD ANYMORE TODAY OR YOU WILL RECIEVE A 30 BAN!"--

Multiple play-by-play posters followed by "Good job, D" and "Way to go, Offense" is so interesting to read over and over as the team gets blown out and the coaches flounder. I can't figure out why game threads don't have 60 to 80 pages now.

Am I the only one that misses the old, interesting game threads?
