I wish they would get rid of the redshirt all together.

5 years to play 5....medical redshirts only granted for special circumstances and when injuries forces athlete to miss his 5th year.

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

I like it.  I'm all for allowing kids to play for up to a full six years as long as they're "full time students".

Why not?

QuoteAmerican Football Coaches Association s sending a proposal to the NCAA that would change college football's long-standing redshirt rule in a significant way: Players could appear in up to four games and still retain redshirt status for that season.

Bret Bielema, Arkansas: "I actually sit on the American Football Coaches Association panel ... I've had a while to process the one we just discussed. Allowing four games as a first-year player without counting against you would be pretty significant."
