This has always been a fun project. I enjoy getting to update and tinker.

July 25, 2012:

QB (3) Wilson, Mitchell, Allen
RB (7) Davis, Johnson, Wingo, Walker, Roberts, Williams, Holmes
FB (1) Small
OL (14) Bailey, Swanson, Charpentier, BCook, Smothers, Danenhauer, Peacock, Beck, Stringer, Ward, Boyd, Ollison, Deacon (former walk-on), Hurd (former walk-on)
TE (5) Gragg, Tate, Sprinkle, Wier, Dean
WR (10) Hamilton, Horton, Herndon, Minor, Hawkins, Hatcher, Cowan, Wilson, McKay, Farr (former walk-on)
38 on offense

DT (9)- DDJones, BJones, Davis, Askew, Thomas, Hodge, Arkadie, Philon, Green (former walk-on)
DE (9) - Smith, Miles-Nash, Flowers, Kelly-Thomas, Wise, Lewis, WinstonFlynn, Johnson
LB (10) - Wright, Williams, Marshall,  Mitchell, Lake, Highsmith, Atiga, Turner, Peters, Jones (former walk-on)
CB (9) - Winston, Mitchell, Fisher, Mitchel, McKinney, Buchanan, Collins, Hines, Kelleybrew (former walk-on)
S (6) - Bennett, Rasner, Carr, Turner, Gaines, Lowe

Specialists (2) - Hocker, Breeding

43 defense, 2 specialist

High-Profile Walk-Ons:
ST/DE - Coleman
SNP -D'Appollino
FB - Shearen, Linton

Thought I had read that Hurd and Deacon had earned scholies but it was reported on MMQB that four others had been awarded scholies: CLICK HERE

I still have Ascolese in the list, but it appears he is #86, and likely to come in at mid-term. Jeremiah Jackson has quietly exited the program as well. Ascolese would be #85 (I forgot to purge Gilbert from the previous version). [edit: 07.25.2012, 9:23pm]

Updates will follow.

EDIT: 07.26.2012: Added Hurd and Deacon to scholarship list (noted as former walk-ons). That is six in this category. If we find out that is inaccurate we'll tweak. Its possible that not all are actually "on scholarship" right now.
EDIT: 08.06.2012: Tardy removal of Vin Ascolese from the LB depth chart.

These are the seniors I see on the roster. Technically, Davis is a senior who could go through the formality of requesting a redshirt for last year. Twenty total scholarship players (Kelleybrew, Green and Farr got their scholies just this summer), giving fans a good idea of what the recruiting class for 2013 looks like.

EDIT (07.30.12): David Hurd was listed as a RS JR in the ADG this morning. I'm removing him from this list.

Jon, I don't think J. Jackson is still around I could not find him on the new roster posted Razorbacks web site.

http://www.arkansasrazorbacks.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPSID=30724&SPID=2419&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=6100&SORT_ORDER=2&Q_SEASON=2012&PRINTABLE_PAGE=

Are we still really close to the 85? We have lost Whitehurst, Gilbert, Humphrey, Peterson, Wade, Haman and Jackson since spring. I cannot think of any others. And , I cannot find out anything about Jackson. Also, whatever happened to Denton Simek?

Oklahawg

Yeah, odd on Jackson - no word officiallly, just *poof*.

Simek was dropped a long time ago - I'm not sure he made it past one year in the program. Its not like he was chopped liver: he decommitted from Texas Tech to come to UA on signing day.

Hey Oklahawg, Ascolese I believe isn't enrolling this fall but will during the spring semester opening it up to 83.  Hurd and Deacon are now on scholarship making it 85.

I'd like some feedback on if you think that's right or not.

A.J. Turner is a LB from the 2012 signing class.  He played at East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto, AR.

Alan Turner is a S from the 2010 signing class.  He played at Junction City High School in Junction City, AR.

Jerry Mitchell will be at Safety. I doubt we'll see Rasner on the back end much unless he improved tremendously back there.

What are the chances AJ Turner starts at safety then moves down to linebacker?

In two years, we will have lost these LB's:

Nelson, Franklin, Highsmith, Wright, Rasner, Williams.

Its gonna be a whole new group in 2013.

Rasner will likely start at LB. He took most of Jericho's minutes last year, and while he is undersized, he was the best tackler on our defense in last year. Nothing got by him at the end of the season.

ListenHereMister

Haynes specifically mentioned Rasner being a star at Safety. This was on Bo's show.

Did Kellybrew get a schollie? I see you don't list him as 'walk on'.

Didn't realize that. Last I heard they were saying he would play a little of both. I just assumed he would end up at LB since he took most of Jericho's minutes down the stretch.

Jon, am I correct in assuming that these are 1 semester scholarships? I was thinking that we would try to bring in at least 2 December Juco's and we will need those scholarships to do that.

I would love to see us bring in a real stud Defensive Tackle and a top notch Linebacker. I would think that the Linebacker would be priority #1, correct?

I keep hearing that Bailey and Swanson might leave, how much stock do you put in that? I haven't seen very many offensive linemen leave early over the years. IF they stay we would only have one spot to fill for 2013, Peacock. With the other losses a mature, solid O'Line would sure take some of the pressure off of the rest of the offense.

I worry about Bailey and Swanson. If they return we should have a strong enough OL to make 2013 not hurt so badly. Both would be mid-round picks, I think, if they came out.

Btw, if Hurd and Deacon are on scholarship they would be seniors departing after this year. Technically, scholarships to guys like this can be given a semester at a time, I think. Or, once they exhaust their eligibility the school can use them for a mid-term guy. But, these rules have been adjusted since I first learned them years ago...might be different today.

Jon,
I would guess that their decision would then be based on how much higher they could go after another year in school.  If they could rise to 2nd or 3rd round level would the difference in money be worthwhile?

We would have a 5th year Sr. and a RS Soph quarterback, a RS soph and probably at least 1 true soph RB and a very experienced receiving corps returning. Match that with an intact O'Line and things suddenly don't look nearly as dire.

And, the truth is very much the same for our defense. Sure, we are losing some very good players, but with the young kids getting some experience this year it shouldn't be a crisis. Bring in another Highsmith at LB and a DT that can just provide good solid depth and we are pretty much even.

Love him or hate him every Hog fan needs to be thankful for the Petrino years. He is responsible for us being able to NEARLY be in a position to "reload" year after year.

2013 could well be considered a rebuilding year, but probably not a 6-6 type of year. We should be able to maintain well enough to not fall back into the also-ran category.

I guess now we can take Ascolese off. That makes 10 LBs for us now. So, 40 offensive players and 43 defensive players.
