The running style of UB just looks like he is exerting less energy than Gay, Gatlin, Blake.

I agree McKdaddy. Who knows if he has run his best time yet. Bolt is in a league of his own.

Wow that was the greatest 100 m final in history. To put it in perspective Tyson's time of 9.80 would have won gold in every Olympics in history except 2008 and 2012.

That was the best times for places 3-8 in history.

I feel bad for Tyson. He did great considering the surgery he had last year.

I still don't quite believe that Gatlin is running faster now than he did when he was caught doping 6 years ago...

He is exerting less energy than the others. He typically takes 39 strides in 100m where the other guys run 44-45 strides in 100m. Meaning that bolt is essentially running 10m or so less in strides than the other guys.

arkansastrack, do you think Tyson's body will let him compete at that level for the next Olympics?

I don't know that it will. He has had many problems since 2008 when he got hurt in the trials. I would not be surprised to see him break his American record (9.69) in the next couple of years though.

It is a shame that injuries have kept him from an individual medal in the Olympics when he has the #2 time in the 100 and #3 time all time in the 200. He is still .10 second faster than the next fastest American ever (Greene/Gatlin).

When you wash them down with roids I guess they are.  Track and field is riddled with it.  Much more than baseball ever was.  Mr. Bolt will be ousted eventually.

I would be surprised if he does not break it again. His current record will probably stand for a long time as is.

His record now is unbelievable. He just deserves a medal but it's tough when you run as fast as he did and didn't place. How fast can man ran???

True, AT....I meant he looks more at ease, his running motion seems less busy (again, length of stride may be it). He just seems more fluid.

True....as a matter of fact for the first time in olympic history the starting gun was replaced by the sound of tanner english breaking the sound barrier. That is what I read on mike patrick and orel hershiser's twitter.

Well, once he hit 88 MPH, it was a foregone conclusion that he was headed back to 1985....

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I watched this event. It was a thing of beauty, especially in slow motion. My thoughts went to how their bodies are built. You don't see other races with builds like theirs...all of the contestants were of African descent.  One of these years, if they haven't already, scientists will be able to determine why the African race is so superior to all other races with regard to athleticism...speed, quickness, strength, agility, hand-eye coordination. Problem is, there are so many uneducated morons in the world, you cannot talk about science without said morons making it out to be some tier of racism. When every contestant in the 100 meters is of the same race, and when that race makes up only 20% of the entire world's population, there is a genetic superiority there.
I don't want you to agree with me because you're weak. I want you to agree with me because you know I'm right.

Because it was in the 70s.  Surprisingly, I think HIM has a point.  Look at all the world record times in the 100 and then get back with me on how many are white vs how many are black.  Not being a racist, just wanting to point out a fact.

I think it is important to remember that when Americans/Europeans were practicing slavery they created a system that did not favor the survival of the weaker slaves. I am curious if this twisted social Darwinism helped create a physically superior line of athlete from the people that it was created to oppress? I really do not know if this has any influence on us today. It is an interesting idea though.
