The day before yesterday Jameel Owens, WR from Muskogee (OK) said he is visiting ARK this weekend, however won't participate at the camp. Last I heard, Stacey McGee, DT from Muskogee (OK) will also be coming, but loike Owens, won't participate at the camp.

beansandtaters

It sure would be nice to pull Jameel Owens in. I hope we roll out that Razorback red carpet for him.

jbhicks

Not saying Jameel won't be here, because you can never tell with these kids but this is an quote from Jameel Owens about Florida from an okprepxtra.com article: "They have a really good program there. I'm supposed to go to their camp out there in July, so hopefully I'll be able to make it down there and check it out. That's the only camp that I'm going to do this summer as of right now." Granted this quote is a little dated (about a month old). I really hope he comes. His offer list is amazing, and he could be the man here.

I hear that money is an issue in making the trip to Florida so he will wait and take an official visit later.  He has been quoted very recently as saying he will make it to the Arkansas camp.

Yep, thats right on. It was Monday or Tuesday he said he would wait to take an official to Florida and visit Arkansas this weekend.

Thanks for the list, getting Owens and McGee on campus can't hurt.  If they don't work out, how much contact can the staff have with them?

jbhicks

That is great news. Our chances always improve once we get a recruit on campus.

Some updates:

1) Matt Mehan (the 6'5 Florida safety) will not be at camp this weekend.
2) Devin Thomas (3* RB from San Antonio) will be at camp on Saturday. He has offers from us, TAMU, Mizzou, N'Western, Purdue, Duke, and North Texas. (I think he will decide between us and TAMU before the high school season starts).
3) Ugo Okpara will not be here for camp, but will be here tonight and Friday for unofficial visit (I think we will get a commit very soon, but he will probably visit Nebraska first).
4) Winston Guy (3* safety from Kentucky) will be here on Saturday (I think we will get a commit).
5) I have read that Jarious Wright is saying the Warren three will be here for camp (including Childs). This is great news, as I had heard Greg would not be here this weekend.
6) It has been confirmed Jameel Owens will be here (an above poster confirmed this). I think we have a better shot than a lot of people are giving us, but I don't think we are the favorite. His teammate Stacey McGee (will be at camp) will most likely decide between OU, LSU, and us, I believe.

Childs making the trip is big news because maybe it shows a little more interest by him in the Hogs.  I had been told that he would not be here Saturday & was not considering the Hogs anymore, but maybe he has had a change of heart.  I wonder if Joe Adams not making the trip has anything to do with his change of plans.

I think Owens' teammate, Stacey McGee, would be a much bigger get for us than Owens because of our need for DTs.  McGee, Gillispie & Justin Smith committing this weekend and Askew on the 28th would be a great DL class for this year, especially if you throw in Williams out of the Dallas area.

Where is everyone getting the information that Greg Childs is not interested in Arkansas from.  I don't know where he is going, but I do know he is at least interested in Arkansas.

I guess I'm a bit disappointed there aren't some 4 star recruits in there.  I would think with our success last year, we could get a 4 star to come to our camp.

The ratings on a lot of those players will change before it is all said and done.  If not for some grade issues, Tony Gillespie would easily be given 4 stars.  Players like Kip Edwards and several others on that list are underrated right now and he will shoot up the rankings by the time final rankings are released.  I have never seen a player with 2 stars with offer lists like Thomas Shuler and Kip Edwards.

Timber Creek, FL safety/athlete Matt Mehan will not be able to make the camp this weekend. Mehan is 6'5, 195, and runs a 4.7. He is being recruited to play wide receiver or safety. Last week, he went to camps at FSU, VMI and G'Tech. He has been offered as a recruited walk-on by UCF and FSU, but wants to wait this season and see what offers he gets. Seems a little slow to be an impact player at either safety or WR.
