A guy that had his head on the chopping block after his last season was good as gone.  Arkansas and Minnesota are lateral programs in what sense?  It isn't anything on the football field or the athletic program, because Arkansas is more recognizable, making more money, more revenue, in the most difficult division in the most difficult conference in football. 

It just so happens his boss gave him the opportunity and gratitude to explore other job options before cutting him lose. 

Minnesota is a step down from Arkansas in every facet in the football program.

Arkansas is demonstrably a better program.   Minnesota's last major bowl appearance was in the Rose Bowl after the 1961 season.   Since then, the Gophers have had exactly one 9-win season (2016) and one 10-win season (2003).  That's it.

No not even close, Minnesota has 4 major recognized national titles.

Minnesota has four legitimate National Championships, they were the AP Champion in 1936, 1940, 1941, & 1960. The 1960 title was a consensus title, since the coaches also voted them as the national champions. 
The other three titles they claim occurred prior to the AP & coaches voted to the national title.

Good point- if you look at the all-time rankings Minnesota comes in #17, while Arkansas is #23, but if you limit it to the last 25 years Arkansas is #31 and Minnesota comes in at #59.
