His old contract was $1M for each of the first 2 years. Drops drastically after that. And his contract is up in June of '18, not '17.

His contract has been amended three times, and if you've read the original contract, it clearly states that it rolls over every July 1st, unless he's been informed otherwise. I think I'll trust Matt on this, one amendment also says if he is fired for cause, he is owed $1m/yr.

I don't think the contract negotiation is until November.

Brings up an interesting point Pretend that I am the one negotiating with Jeff Long about another contract.  "Jeff, tell us what you have done to improve the status of Athletics here at the U of A and remember Jeff that Baseball was in good hands and still is before you came here and too, you can't mention Track because we have continued on a good course with that. Track is our forte, Now Jeff, take Basketball with Coach Anderson is what in his 6th or 7th year and we have a couple of spot appearances in post schedule play. Here we are five years down the road.  We all know which belief has proven correct, but that doesn't mean those who went all in for Long are going to admit they were wrong.  No, now that our football program has become an absolute dumpster fire and laughing stock the argument has changed to "yeah, but under Long we have the highest GPA we've ever had and we're making money faster than we can count it.  So there!"

The only thing your post proves is that the phrase, Too Long to be Wrong, is not always correct.
