Quote from: codeHog on Today at 03:55:05 pmI suppose our team is unhappy with the results but they have all played a lot of baseball so they are not down on themselves too much

No crying in baseball, got to pick yourself up and get ready for next week!

Quote from: Snouty on Today at 04:04:05 pmWouldn't players on both teams have the same amount of pressure?

Yes. They would, but I think it is a real thing.

I am thinking Diggs needs to concede that he may be back next year and just relax.

We have a great pitching staff, but they are pitching on a knife-edge, knowing that they can't give up more than a couple of runs if we want to have a reasonable chance of winning. I think that is probably weighing on them as well.

Our lineup also tends to make the other teams Saturday and Sunday starters looking like Friday-night guys.

Quote from: dacskc on Today at 03:33:21 pmMay be wrong, but I think the pitching has faltered from constant stress. They have to be almost perfect, which is hard to do — especially when ump "issues" and inconsistent D get added to the mix.

I gotta think the HP ump won't grade out as well this week. It's always said they get most of the calls right, but I would be interested to know what percentage of the calls they get wrong favor the home team.

I also have to figure DVH has seen enough of the revolving OF. He's given a fair shot to all involved. As far as DH, Lovich/Souza for RHP and Helfrick/Edmunson LHP.

If we're a T8 seed, which I think winning 3 more and a couple in Hoover, will guarantee, then (even with our various woes) we have a great shot at ending up in Omaha. Although they sure love sticking us with whatever team is currently red-hot in the regional.

18 conference wins give you a really strong argument to get a national seed.  I think we could sneak in even if we went 1-5 the rest of the way. 19 or 20 conference wins and we are pretty much a lock as a top 8 seed.

Quote from: PonderinHog on Today at 04:00:07 pmThat was the '94-95 season, the first(?) game of the season after our NC.

Yep.  And you sort of had to see it coming.  Cal was brash then as he can be now and as he was at Memphis.

Hogs fans remember getting dissed.  I remember Joe Paterno's shot after The Big Shootout.

Where Cal is concerned, all is forgiven. 🙂

Quote from: Pork Ranger on Today at 12:00:27 pmIt's from a few years back but you can watch it on ESPN+. Really good documentary and gives you everything you need to know about the man and his coaching career.

I was too young to remember much from the 1994 season and didn't realize how bad Cal and UMass stuck it to us that year. The man's been a helluva coach for a very long time. Good times ahead
