Alabama announces firing of Anthony Grant. Six years was long enough. Had to pull the trigger.

@jeffbarzello:Alabama announces that they will not retain head coach Anthony Grant.

I remember when he was an up and comer and was better than we had here at the time.

In other words, Billy Donovan is about to add another former assistant back to his staff?

Makes you wonder who they will reach for this time.  With Pearl's little tournament run, I bet there is a little more pressure on Alabama basketball than usual.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Until the spring practice game, then it's over for the year.

They will hire another up and comer they can pay as little as possible.

Rick Ray level hire is paying as little as possible.  Grant wasn't underpaid.

I'd check with Archie Miller if I were Bama to see if he were interested.

I saw a thread the other day over on another message board started by a Florida fan that was titled, "Anthony Grant Come on Down."

Don't be surprised if the following names get mentioned by the National Media for the Alabama job.

Shaka Smart
Rick Stansbury
Gregg Marshall

If Rick Barnes loses his job at Texas, then Barnes' name could also be mentioned by the National Media.

I know he won't, but Miller should get consideration for COY.  Dismissed his two tallest players.  No one over 6'7" on roster and kept winning.

opineonswine

Alabama has historically been a contender in the SEC.  Be interesting to see how they go.  I suspect they'll try to go big.

HOGINTENNESSEE

Bama is a pretty darn good job the right guy can win there and be a top 25 type team. They should have fired him last year and got Pearl.

Atlhogfan1

Murray St's head coach is a Bama grad - Steve Prohm.  If they decide to or have to go that direction perhaps he'll get a look.

I expect there to be a lot of noise around Shaka Smart for the Alabama job.   They'll have to pay him a fair bit, because VCU pays him relatively well.

Texas should look his way and he should be interested if they make a change.

He is better than Pel and his record proves it. However, that still doesn't make him a good Head Coach.

That shouldn't be a problem at BAMA...as long as he's not paid more than Satan. Little Nicky wouldn't stand for that at all!

Grant will probably go to work with Frank Martin at USCe. They are long time friends from South Florida.

I don't see Shaka Smart settling for the Alabama job. If he sticks it out @ VCU, he'll still have better opportunities down the line.

They are better than the Bama job.  But timing and other factors go into changes so maybe they would consider it.  And Bama isn't a bad job.

Its not a big settle.  It is still a major conference job, and they can pay him better if they are going to keep up a higher level of salary like they did with Grant.   Not a ton of major major jobs opening this year.

Depends on how impatient he is. How long will Roy stay at UNC? How long does Barnes stay at Texas? There are other jobs that could come open in the next few years with a higher profile than Bama.

Auburn has better facilities than Alabama. Pearl being available for Auburn was a scenario with a lot of turns in their favor. Him being NCAA penalties, not many major jobs being opened at the time. We'll see who they get though...

Alabama really isn't an attractive job to land for a high profile coach. Basketball will always be a distant third to football and spring practice. I can certainly see Rick Stansbury or the Murray State coach being top candidates for the job.

Nobody at Bama wants anybody taking any headlines away from the football team.

They want to be competitive, just not TOO competitive.
