Quote44 years ago today, the Mobile native hit his 715th home run, surpassing Ruth at the top of baseball's all-time list. On April 8, 1974, Aaron sent a fastball from Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Al Downing over the fence in left-center field at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium

Wonder if those 70's dudes who ran onto the basepath knew Aaron had received death threats if he broke the record.

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.
