Anyone else hearing about these scandal rumors possibly involving Andy Cannizzaro their head coach? Sec rant has been talking about it this evening and linking stuff on Twitter from so called "sources". I would link off of my Twitter but have no idea how to so I just snapped a pic. From what little I've read could be an affair of some sort.

Springfield_MO_Razorback

Apperantly he will be terminated tomorrow. MSU is using the moral clause in his contract.

Springfield_MO_Razorback

And there is the hammer! From 247Sports. He gone.

I didn't feel it warranted it's own thread, but I've heard Cannizaro will be fired in the morning by State.

Beat you by 13 minutes  ;)

And from what I've heard from a MSU alum, he was caught with a student.

Yeah I just heard the same. From what I hear they are both married and Canns wife is expecting their third child any day now. I just feel bad for the families and spouses. Not good!

Supposedly the affair was with Lee Begley. She has a twitter account. Now with UF, left with Mullen's staff.

Following a familiar pattern, he will be the next HC at Western Kentucky.

I was looking forward to DVH barking at him from the dugout again this year.

I remember it happening last year but don't remember the situation that caused it?

Don't remember why but they were talking back and forth. DVH told him to get back in the dugout "big boy".

My opinion on this will probably be different than most here but what two consenting adults do is none of my business or the business of his employer as long as nothing illegal was done.

It is their business if there is a morality clause in his contract, which I'm guessing there was, since he got fired.

Well....I'll be "that guy" and just come right on out and say that I'd definitely have a hard time turning down that blonde bombshell if she served it up for me...

This is also why I'm also not married yet.....or ever 8)

I agree that he is a total dirt bag but this is a matter that should be handled between him and his wife.

what part of moral clause do you all not understand?  last time i checked it was not moral to cheat on your PREGNANT (happy now?) wife with a co-worker who is also married.

What one man finds moral, another man might not. What if dude's wife was fine with him sleeping with another woman? Believe it or not, swinging happens all the time. Should Mississippi State fire the guy? Should there be stipulations for heinous crimes? Sure. Fire a guy if he murders someone or assaults someone or becomes a felon. Great. But a corporation choosing to fire someone because they cheated on their spouse? No. That's a contract between that husband and wife. The corporation has no vested interest in that contract.

I'm with HogFansReunited. Inserting the institution into someone's personal life is ridiculous.

You don't think MSU and this guy spoke?

I don't like "moral" clauses either and we got no idea what this one said specifically, but if it is in the contract, and the institution and the coach met and a parting agreement was reached.

Not sure what the big deal is.

I definitely dont disagree there. That is a pretty crappy thing to pull while your wife is over here carrying your spawn. I absolutely feel really bad for her, and the other two little ones.

I think it is a double standard though that the guy loses his job due to a morality clause but the woman does not.  It takes two to tango.

She works at Florida now (if that is the right person) so not alot MSU can do about that.

I know but I think it just undercuts a lot of what women these days are trying to accomplish when it is okay for them to do the same thing that winds up getting a man fired.  If society wants to hold men to a certain standard then they need to be willing to hold women to the same.

311Hog

IMHO these moral clauses only show up when the person is A. the/a face of a large organization and B. Paid handsomely.

Asst. Director of Laundry doesn't have a morals clause.

I don't think anyone is arguing that MSU didn't have the right to fire him.

Some of us (myself included) don't think what two consenting adults do should be grounds for termination, period. Now, if she was a student or he offered her a job etc etc where there was a power differential to such a degree she never could truly consent, then that's bad, and MSU has to fire, which I would support.

Ask his wife & kids if they agree with it

pigture perfect

Just to simplify for some. A morality clause is added to a coaches contract because parents of recruits want to know that they are letting their kids be under the influence of a person who will be a good example. If this guy and gal were not influencing young people it wouldn't matter. Lawyers, car salesmen, etc, wouldn't matter. Coaches, ministers etc. different stories.

I agree.

The timing of the firing is weird. The woman he was cheating with has been gone for 2 months. Unless they kept a long distance relationship the affair should have ended when she left to follow Mullen to Florida. Why did it take until now to fire him? Thinking of Mullen, how much is he involved in all of this?

Again, totally different argument. We would agree that a divorce is fully warranted; firing from his job, not so much.

Edit: Latest rumors show he used school funds to facilitate the affair in some way. If true, deserved to be gone. Just like BP had to go because he gave her the job and lied to his boss. Affair + implicating school = gone. Affair alone =  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, bad but not MSU problem

TebowHater

I wonder how, if at all, the affects Wes Johnson's status here. Will he be a leading candidate for their permanent replacement when that time comes? Odds are he will have an outstanding pitching staff this year here to stand on.

He's probably sweating bullets. If she followed HIM to UF rather than staying in Starkville , you have to think there may be more there, too. Not to mention her husband is a baseball coach in MISSISSIPPI.

Begley (along with others including his family) was on the plane with him when he arrived to MSU. But WHO brings their recruiting administrator on the plane with them to their introductory PC!?
