Quote from: Razrpig256 on Today at 07:25:20 pmThis is the trend I can't figure out. It obviously makes no sense to say that Thompson forgot how to coach, but something has changed when we supposedly recruit at an elite level.

Team OPS and SEC ranking since 2017:

2017 - .828 - 2nd
2018 - .884 - 2nd
2019 - .882 - 2nd
2020 - covid
2021 - .869 - 1st
2022 - .861 - 5th
2023 - .857 - 11th
2024 - .834 - 13th

2017 was Vitello and Elabder
2018 was all Vitellos recruits
2019 was all Vitello recruits except Ezell
2021 started to become more mixed
2022 was mostly Thompson recruits
2023 was all Thompson
2024 is all Thompson

Quote from: onebadrubi on Today at 07:11:06 pmIt was a relatively small number of "dudes" wasn't it?   And they developed or grew into it, I do t know enough to say he got them there with competing with sec type schools recruiting them

It was a 6 man lineup but those 6 could hit.  They also had a stud pitcher that shut us down and was drafted high.

The oldest NCAA football players are:

Mike Thompson, who became the oldest football player in NCAA history at the age of 61 in 2009, as a placekicker for Austin College.

Joe Thomas Sr., who played as a running back for South Carolina State University at the age of 55 in 2016 and is the father of Dallas Cowboys' Joe Thomas Jr.

Ray Ruschel, who played as a defensive end for North Dakota at the age of 49 in 2019.

Alan Moore, who played as a placekicker for Faulkner University at the age of 61 in 2011 and held the record for the oldest NCAA football player ever until Thompson.

Quote from: nationwish on Today at 11:29:37 amIs he dating Juju Watkins? Her earning potential is probably higher than his anywhere.
It may be at the college level

Quote from: bjeffersonhog on Today at 07:20:55 pmI see a lot of people saying Thiero is the reason he's not coming. I'm not sold that he was the decision that caused this.  I think it might have more to do with how the staff feels about Pryor and that pushed Burks even farther down the bench.

It may be that Burks was hoping he'd have Thiero's spot in the rotation and when that didn't happen, he went with an offer that would net real playing time. I'm just assuming here as I have no knowledge of what Georgetown has lined up on the wing. But Burks was believed to have been a silent commit the whole time and we still have about 6 scholarships left to fill so there is room for Burks, Pryor, Wagner and more. Even if we say Cal's cut off for scholarships is 10, those 3 still fit within that. It is either Burks tired of waiting and feels like he will get more minutes at GU or Cal has better plans in mind for the spot Burks had silently committed to.

Quote from: OldCoot on Today at 05:23:44 pmSMU got the death penalty for buying players back in the day, now that's it's legal they say, "hey, hold my beer".

I'm old enough to remember SMU high flier days.

Quote from: Mike_e on Today at 05:46:22 pmMercs are seldom loyal to anyone except themselves.  There is a lot to be said for players that will fix bayonets, charge and damm the cost.

I suspect that we've already seen a season tanked by mercs here.

What lured Kelly to BR? His Famuhlee boudain recipe?

Quote from: Killean on Today at 02:54:40 pmBrian Kelly has a long history of not caring which way the wind blows.

10.0 from the East German judge even.

Quote from: codeHog on Today at 12:33:24 pmAre not going to be teams until the coaches get them in the gym together.

Miss taught us a lesson last season about building a roster and making it work as a team..are not the same thing

The portal era means this will happen often

If a team has 4 or 5 returning starters in today's world, they might win a a lot

Cal is going to find out fast if he still has the fire to make a machine out of the many parts

This is the one and only concern I have about Cal.

But it seems to me that he is already embracing the portal more than he had at UK.

I think he makes it work.
