John L Smith was not on staff at Arkansas.  He was at Weber State when we hired him to replace Petrino.  We also structured his contract to avoid the bankruptcy filing.  You know, integrity and all.

HardCore

Because Jeff is not competent enough when it comes to building a winning program, which is why he Pivots to graduation rates, building construction & stadium expansions.  That stuff can be done in your sleep.  I simply don't trust that he is competently capable of selecting a great coach (established or up-n-comer).  So, if I have the choice of keeping JL and letting him select the next coach or ditch him and let somebody else select the coach......I say ditch him.  In addition, he couldn't  negotiate a better price on a Sombrero from a street vendor in Matamoros.
Beware the lollipop of mediocrity; lick it once and you'll suck forever....Brian Wilson (Beach Boys)

JL, is a dumpster fire and should have never been hired. He is such and embarrassment to the UA and has done nothing but feather his on hat. Our program athletics stink. Fire him first and then let him take BB with him, what a lovely pair.

Lets fire the BOT because ultimately they approved BP's firing, JLS hiring and BB's hiring and contract extension. Not to mention they approved JL's hiring! The BOT has ruined Arkansas Football!
Quote from: mckinneyhog5 on April 07, 2019, 10:29:55 pmGuys, we have hired the BEST coach that we could have hired. Musselman is gonna rock it here like we haven't seen since the early 90's. Just sit back and watch it unfold! We WILL be a nationally recognized program again soon.

JLS, just stupid. Should have paid Hatfield some cash to coach a few months. Tim Horton. Barry Lunney SR. Anyone but slappy.

Kept Pel one year too long.

1. Jeff Long is not, and never has been and embarrassment to the UofA, actually he has been a source of pride to the entire state as a man that does the "right" thing.   He also was the first chair of the BCS bowl committee, which should be something Arkansans are proud of.

2. His hiring of JLS, probably at the time, was a reasonably thought-out decision, as JLS actually was, a mentor to Petrino (take that as you will, but Petrino is also on record stating that JLS was a mentor in the past).   JL probably thought JLS could keep Petrino's "system" on track which was not a bad idea, however had he known that JLS had completely fallen over the cliff into "nutty world", significantly, since he was a Petrino mentor, he probably would have re-thought out his decision in hindsight....   however, JLS was an embarrassment to the UofA and to the state of Arkansas even though he had sever mental handicaps at the time.......   I'm not sure that JLS is a bigger embarrassment than the BOT though who allowed the a) the firing of Lou Holtz, b) Hatfield's departure, and c) the hideous "Nutt" issues to go on for 10 years though........

We can all be angry as to the steps downward that the program has taken, however there are many decision makers other than Jeff Long who had a huge, but not public, helping hand in these steps..............

No, he was on staff and was the guy put in charge until we hired JLS.  He is the one that offered Drew Morgan during that time period.

Only because he didn't forgive and retain CBP.
