FINAL from Ben Hill Griffin: LSU 17 Florida 16
« on: October 07, 2017, 07:07:57 am »

Quote
A SOFT LINER
For LSU to have a chance at Florida, it must be markedly better on the defensive line. The Tigers allowed 206 yards rushing against Troy, 191 by Jordan Chunn. Florida has not one featured back but three —

SINGLE-PAYER SYSTEM
LSU reverted to its 2016 offense against Troy and the result was a 10-0 halftime deficit. Tigers went back to Matt Canada’s attack in the second half and mounted a strong comeback. Ed Orgeron said it will be Canada’s offense Saturday, with Danny Etling doing the quarterbacking throughout with little or no input from Myles Brennan.

No place like home for Florida vs. LSU http://www.gatorsports.com/2017/10/no-place-like-home-florida-vs-lsu

Quote
An act of God. A home game moved away. A perceived homecoming slight.

All have played into the wild and at times contentious Florida-LSU football rivalry in the span of 12 months.

Consider at this point last year, when the threat of Hurricane Matthew forced Florida to postpone its annual matchup with LSU at The Swamp. What followed was a week of heated negotiations between outgoing Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley and LSU athletic director Joe Alleva. With the SEC office stepping in, the game was eventually moved to Nov. 19 in Baton Rouge, with Foley claiming at the time LSU was never a “true partner” in discussions.

It all worked out. Florida won at LSU 16-10 on a dramatic goal-line stand to clinch its second straight SEC East division title. The Gators will play LSU at home in each of the next two seasons. With the home date with LSU this season, Florida is in the midst of a rare three-game homestand against conference teams.

Florida coach Jim McElwain: “People make a lot more of it than it was. I think, you know, there’s a lot of things going on out there. I think this is, again, just historically, these two teams, the fact they’re playing every year, is something both teams look forward to.”

Karma in all sports has shifted to Florida...

Brett Heggie with a great pull on an outside run for Lamical Perine. #Gators bust it for big yardage and are suddenly driving.

#Gators get down to the 5 but have to settle for a 25-yard FG.

Florida now has a new CFB record, scoring in 366 consecutive games.

Quick gamer: Is #LSU on the same page now?

Looks like it. Tigers beat Gators 17-16

Quote
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – All of those meetings last week did get LSU on the same page after all.

The Tigers turned it – in a big way – on Saturday.

LSU’s offense, finally, burst out to a fast start, and a blitz-heavy defense stuffed No. 21 Florida for a rousing 17-16 victory at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, a momentum-swinging road win for an embattled squad.

A week after losing at home to Troy, the unranked Tigers (4-2, 1-1 SEC) roared to life at the hot, muggy Swamp, delivering to coach Ed Orgeron the first SEC road victory as a permanent head coach. He entered 0-13.

LSU capped a contentions and drama-filled week with this scintillating win. Players had multipled players-only meetings this week after the defeat to Troy, and even administrators got involved. Athletic director Joe Alleva met with offensive coordinator Matt Canada and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda on Monday, a meeting that ended, they said, positively and one that got LSU “on the same page,” Orgeron said.

They avoided the program’s first 3-3 start since 2000, snatching an unlikely victory in this heated rivalry.

What was more impressive than anything? The Tigers played for much of the final three quarters without their two starting tackles, forcing coaches to use, at one point, three true freshmen at one time.

New | On Devin White's 4Q sideline speech, Dave Aranda's last two defensive calls & an #LSU defense that "responded"

“I think we dropped eight, rushed three. I saw Feleipe’s eyes,” he said. “Tried to throw it right behind me. Jumped up. I used to play basketball so I got a good vertical.”

LSU LB Devin White on Florida QB Feleipe Franks: ‘We’re no longer friends’

Quote
LSU linebacker Devin White is loyal to a fault. That’s why he and Florida quarterback Feleipe Franks don’t speak anymore.

Franks was committed to LSU before flipping to Florida. White was in the same recruiting class as Franks, and the two prospects grew close as they prepared to become teammates. When Franks flipped, White said the two cut off communication.

White was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. White leads all SEC defenders with 62 tackles.
