Report: Zion Williamson to visit South Carolina Saturday

Quote
Five-star small forward Zion Williamson will visit South Carolina on Saturday for the Gamecocks first home football game of the season.

That’s according to Phil Kornblut, who recently spoke with Williamson’s stepfather, Lee Anderson.

On Thursday, South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin conducted an in-home visit with Williamson (6-7, 230) and his family.

“The visit went great, just like all the visits with the coaches so far,” Anderson said. “[Martin’s] message was about the fact they reached the Final Four last season and come help them get to that next level.”

Williamson, a 2018 prospect from Spartanburg (S.C.) Day School, is tentatively set to take official visits to Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA.

According to the 247Sports composite, he’s ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect in the country. The 247Sports Crystal Ball gives Kansas the slight edge over Kentucky. Duke is third and North Carolina is fourth.

Ole Miss received its third commitment in the past two weeks with Anthony Higgs' announcement Wednesday morning.

Quote
Anthony Higgs, a Maryland native and three-star small forward, per 247Sports' composite rankings, announced his verbal commitment to the Rebels Wednesday morning.

Higgs is the third commitment for the Rebels in the past two weeks. He's 6-foot-8 and 200 pounds and reportedly held offers from Colorado, Xavier and Kansas State.

Serrel Smith, a combo guard and Florida native, was the first player to commit to Ole Miss in this class on Sept. 14. He's also listed as a three-star.

JUCO shooting guard Brian Halums, who attends Itawamba Community College, committed on Sept. 21. He's not rated.

Ole Miss has made a concerted effort to target wing players in this recruiting class. After the season, the Rebels will lose guards Deandre Burnett and Markel Crawford.

Updated, with comments from Nembhard's dad --> Florida lands PG commitment for 2018 http://www.gatorsports.com/2017/10/florida-lands-pg-commitment-2018 … via @GatorSports.com

Quote
Florida secured a commitment from one of the top passing point guards in the Class of 2018 on Monday.

Andrew Nembhard, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound Canadian point guard from Aurora, Ontario, made a verbal pledge to the Gators. ESPN.com rated Nembhard as a four-star prospect, ranked as the 43rd best overall prospect and 11th best point guard in the country. Rivals.com rates Nembhard as a five-star prospect and 26th best player in the nation. That makes Nembhard the first five-star to commit under current UF coach Mike White.

“I’m grateful and excited to announce my commitment to Florida,” Nembhard posted on Twitter.

“We’re excited to be part of the Gator family,” Nembard’s father, Claude Nembhard said Monday. “We were there this past weekend. Had a great visit. Andrew is excited about it.

“He’s an old-school point guard. A pass first guy. He’s played for the Canadian National Team and will play for the Junior Men’s National Team this year. He’s a good student, 3.6, 3.7 GPA. ”
