Here is a look at the top SEC players by position from 1992 to present.

This evaluation is based on achievements during the college career solely

Running Back - Darren McFadden, Arkansas

SEC running backs have won the Heisman Trophy since 1992 but none have finished in the Top Two twice.

Two-time Doak Walker Award winner; the Walter Camp Award; Jim Brown Trophy; Two-Time Consensus All-American; Two-Time SEC Offensive Player of the Year (ahead of a Heisman Trophy winner); and a Three-Time 1st Team All-SEC selection.  His career total of 4,590 rushing yards ranks second all-time in the SEC, behind only Herschel Walker.

There was no one better at the position than Darren McFadden. NO ONE!

Runners-up include and are limited to: Mark Ingram, Heisman winner; Derrick Henry, Heisman Winner; Shaun Alexander, Boone County Rebel was '99 SEC Player of the Year and All-American.

Center - Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas

AL.com is presenting the No. 1 player to wear each number 1 through 99 in the conference's history.

No. 1 63 is Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs.

Quote
While Jonathan Luigs played center for Arkansas, the Razorbacks became the second SEC team to have a 1,000-yard rusher for four consecutive seasons - and in two of those seasons, the Hogs had two 1,000-yard rushers

In 2006, Arkansas' 286.5 rushing yards per game were the highest for an SEC team in 21 years. The Ground Hogs helped the Razorbacks win the SEC West title outright for the only time. That season also was Luigs' first as the All-SEC center.

The next year, he repeated that honor and also received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is presented annually to the SEC's best blocker, and the Rimington Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation's best center, while being named a consensus All-American.

7 Players have been the SEC's rushing leader in consecutive seasons

Quote
The players who have been the SEC's rushing leader in consecutive seasons are Ole Miss' John Dottley in 1949 and 1950, Alabama's Johnny Musso in 1970 and 1971, Kentucky's Sonny Collins in 1973 and 1974, Georgia's Herschel Walker in 1980, 1981 and 1982, Tennessee's Johnnie Jones in 1983 and 1984, LSU's Kevin Faulk in 1997 and 1998 and Arkansas' Darren McFadden in 2006 and 2007. Although LSU's Derrius Guice, Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald, Arkansas' Rawleigh Williams III and Vanderbilt's Ralph Webb finished with more rushing yards last season than Pettway, the Auburn ball-carrier was the SEC's rushing leader because he had the league's highest per-game average at 122.4.

Champ Bailey part of 2017 SEC football legends class

Quote
Bailey is certainly deserving. As a junior at Georgia, he took part in more than 1,000 plays. He also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and was a consensus All-America selection in 1998.

SEC announces 2017 Football Legends class

ARKANSAS - Dan Hampton, Defensive Tackle, 1975-78
Arkansas defensive tackle Dan Hampton was a four-year letterman from 1975-78 and a three-year starter as well as a two-time All-Conference selection. Arkansas produced a 35-10-2 record during Hampton's career, including a mark of 22-8-1 in Southwest Conference play. He totaled 239 tackles in his career, with 32 behind the line of scrimmage, while recovering six fumbles. Hampton was a first-team All-American in 1978, and he helped Arkansas to a No. 3 national finish after winning the 1978 Orange Bowl. During his senior campaign in 1978, he was named the SWC Defensive Player of the Year and earned first-team All-SWC honors. Hampton also earned the SWC Player of the Year award from the Houston Post for his senior season. A first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears, he played in the NFL for 12 seasons and became one of only two Bears' players to play in three decades for the team. Hampton finished third on the team's all-time career sacks list with 82 and earned All-Pro honors five times.

Snell entered the game with 25 career rushing touchdowns. Former Kentucky running backs Sonny Collins and Moe Williams shared the school record for rushing touchdowns with 26. Snellís second rushing touchdown against Vanderbilt, coming at the 13- minute mark in the thrid quarter, gave him the record with 27 career rushing touchdowns. He had 13 last year and 14 so far this season.

Making history is nothing new for Snell. He broke six records in his freshman season at Kentucky.

Snell also became the first player in Kentucky history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. He has 110 rushing yards so far against Vanderbilt.

Gus Malzahn: Kerryon Johnson 'needs to be in the Heisman talk'

Quote
After running for more yards against a top 10 rush defense than any other player this season, Kerryon Johnson has plowed his way into the Heisman Trophy conversation.

The Auburn running back had 167 yards on 32 carries and two catches for 66 yards with a 55-yard touchdown to lead the No. 10 Tigers in a 40-17 win over No. 1 Georgia on Saturday.

"I've been saying it for a couple of weeks, he's one of the best running backs in the country, if not the best, and he proved it tonight," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "He needs to be in the Heisman talk. (I'm) very proud of him, not just rushing but he had a big reception, too, and he does a lot of different things in protection."

Johnson, the SEC's leading rusher, hit the 1,000-yard mark for the season during the fourth quarter while his 32 carries equaled Georgia's team total.

Junior from Huntsville liked the praise from his head coach, but didn't take to campaigning on his own behalf for the top individual award in the sport.

"I appreciate it from him seeing as he's coached a few guys in that conversation and guys that have won it," Johnson said. "Until it's in there, it's not in there. I just keep going out, I run, I run and if it gets in there it's pretty cool. It's always been a dream of mine. I never thought I'd get to that level, but it would be pretty awesome to see."

Johnson narrowly edged the 166 rushing yards and three touchdowns by Stanford's Bryce Love against Washington for most yards against a top 10 rush defense in the FBS this season.

The legend of Alabama QB Jalen Hurts grows with another clutch victory

Quote
Hurts doesn't remember when it happened. It was at some point during the third quarter -- presumably when Alabama was losing to Mississippi State.

A member of ESPN's production crew was standing beside him.

Unprompted, Hurts turned to the stranger and proclaimed, "I was built for stuff like this."

Kyle Tucker‏ @KyleTucker_SEC

Lost in the bad for UK today: Benny Snell will finish the regular season as the SEC leader in rushing yards (1,318) and rushing TD (18). And he's rewriting the school record book.

Quote
Snell already has the Kentucky record for most career rushing touchdowns, and he broke another record on Saturday against Louisville. Snell ran for his 18th touchdown of the season to break Moe Williamsí single season record of 17.

Snell has already rushed 28 times for 211 yards and two touchdowns...

By the way, Devin White is now No. 6 in #LSU history with 125 tackles this season. He wasn't in the Top 11 to start the game. Needs four more to crack Top 5.

He has 11 total tackles tonight.

Nick Chubb now the SECís No. 2 all-time leading rusher

Quote
Chubb is now the No. 2 all-time rusher in the SEC, as he passed Kevin Faulk and Darren McFadden on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game against Auburn.

Chubb trails only former Bulldog Herschel Walker in the all-time record book. Chubb now has 4,591 rushing yards. Walker had 5,259.

Chubb has had to carry a bigger load against Auburn with fellow senior running back Sony Michel out with a left leg injury...

SEC Top Football Players per School Spanning the Sugar Bowl Era
« Reply #647 on: Today at 05:36:47 am »

16 members of the inaugural class of the Sugar Bowl Hall of Fame were announced on Monday, and 11 of them had ties to the SEC

Quote
SEC-connected Hall of Famers are Herschel Walker of Georgia, Frank Broyles and Pepper Rodgers of Georgia Tech, Raymond Brown and Archie Manning of Ole Miss, Johnny Majors of Tennessee and Claude "Little Monk" Simons of Tulane, Paul "Bear" Bryant and Gene Stallings and running back Major Ogilvie of Alabama and running back Bo Jackson of Auburn.

Hall of Fame choices from outside the SEC included and were limited to Chuck Dicus of Arkansas, Tony Dorsett and Dan Marino of Pitt and Sammy Baugh and Davey O'Brien of TCU.

While Bryant is most associated with Alabama, where he coached for 25 years, Bryant made his first Sugar Bowl appearance as the coach of Kentucky. His Wildcats stunned top-ranked and previously undefeated Oklahoma 13-7 on Jan. 1, 1951.

Bryant took eight Alabama teams to the Sugar Bowl...
