Evan Daniels says PG Quade Green might be UK's second-best shooter, but his first instinct is to get others going.

QuoteGreen is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound McDonald's All-American from Philadelphia. He averaged 14.9 points, 9.8 assists and 3.2 steals on the Nike AAU circuit last spring and summer — he led the league in assists and steals — guiding his team to the Peach Jam championship game. He was rated the No. 3 point guard and No. 24 overall prospect in the Class of 2017 by Scout.

Green is next in line at Point Guard U, following De'Aaron Fox, who followed Tyler Ulis, who followed Andrew Harrison, who followed (oops, there was one hiccup in the lineage), who followed Marquis Teague, who followed Brandon Knight, who followed John Wall. That's six NBA draft picks, four first-rounders and three top-10 overall selections.

Is Green that good? No one projects him as a one-and-done —

Rothstein | 25 impact freshmen for the 2017-18 season

QuoteMichael Porter Jr., Missouri: At 6-10, the likely No. 1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft has guard-like skills that allow him to play all five positions on the court. Can the Tigers go from irrelevance to one of 68 teams playing in the NCAA Tournament next spring?

Quade Green, Kentucky: Any 5-star point guard who commits to Kentucky will have high expectations, and Green is no different. The Philadelphia native is expected to replace De'Aaron Fox as the Wildcats' starting floor general next season, arriving in Lexington with high-level cachet...

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Kentucky: the forgotten piece of Kentucky's fabled recruiting class.

Hamidou Diallo, Kentucky: A freak athlete, the 6-5 Diallo has wiry athleticism

Kevin Knox, Kentucky: Simply put, Knox is absurdly skilled on offense.

P.J. Washington, Kentucky: Versatility personified, the 6-8 Washington can play either forward spot

J.J. Caldwell, Texas A&M: Why do many SEC coaches believe the Aggies can win the league next season? This guy. Texas A&M lacked a proven point guard last year. That problem is now solved with the addition of Caldwell. An academic redshirt in 16-17, the pass-first floor general makes the Aggies...

Collin Sexton, Alabama: There are many reasons for the current buzz surrounding Alabama's program, but this is one of the main ones. Sexton is as good a point guard as there is in the 2017 class, and he should make the Crimson Tide a dangerous team entering the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

ZAGSBLOG: Auburn Loses Commitment from EJ Montgomery
http://www.zagsblog.com/2017/09/27/ej-montgomery-decommits-auburn ...
@AdamZagoria

QuoteEJ Montgomery, the 6-foot-10 power forward from Wheeler (GA) High School, decommitted from Auburn on Wednesday, his father, EJ Montgomery Sr., told Scout.

"We are going to open EJ's recruitment back up," Montgomery Sr., said. "He hasn't really gone through the process of being recruited and he wants to experience that."

Montgomery's decommitment comes one day after news broke on Tuesday, regarding an FBI probe into separate incidents with an Auburn assistant and three other college basketball coaches. Auburn assistant coach Chuck Person was suspended without pay on Tuesday.

According to 247Sports, Montgomery is ranked as the No. 25 overall player in the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 player from the state of Georgia. Before committing to Auburn, Montgomery held offers from schools such as Baylor, Florida State, Miami, NC State, and UCLA, among others.

First committed to Auburn a year ago.

Brian Bowen was a top college basketball recruit
Here's how he ended up at the center of a federal corruption case

QuoteBrian Bowen was living the life of a highly touted basketball player coveted by several top colleges.

His high school team, La Lumiere School, toured the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., and played a game on national television. Its jerseys and warm-up jackets displayed the logo of Nike, the sneaker company that sponsored La Lumiere, a private school from La Porte, Ind. About a dozen reporters waited for Bowen, a lanky 6-foot-7 wing, after the game.

He was an important subject: Bowen was one of the most prominent recruits in the Class of 2017 who had yet to commit to a college.

Bowen stood center stage then in the unusually rarefied world of big-time college basketball.

Eight months later, though, everything that seemed expectant about that moment has been redrawn by federal prosecutors as the trappings of a corrupted marketplace.

Last week, the United States attorney's office for the Southern District of New York released criminal complaints that outlined bribery and corruption charges against 10 men. Prosecutors constructed a narrative in which Bowen featured prominently — not by name, but as "Player-10."

The 2016 recruiting class was special, how does the future compare? | Story w/ @JoshGershon & @BSnowScout: https://scout.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/The-2016-recruiting-class-was-special-how-does-the-immediate-fut-109482828 ...

QuoteEarly returns from the 2017 NBA Draft suggest that the 2016 recruiting class is going to have the type of impact on the League we thought it would have. Guys like Lonzo Ball, Jayson Tatum, Josh Jackson, De'Aaron Fox and Dennis Smith were known names for years, and even Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac were Top 10 guys by the time they were seniors.

Evan Daniels, Director of Recruiting:

The 2016 recruiting class, at least at the top, is one of the best that I've evaluated since I got into the business 12 or so years ago. It will be hard for any of the future classes to compete with that.

In fact, this statement may sound a little crazy, but I think it's true. The 2016 recruiting class will have better professional players than the 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes combined. I don't think the current crop of high school players, at least long term and as NBA prospects is on par.

Brian Snow, National Recruiting Analyst:

While the 2016 class is shaping up as a class for the ages, and there is no class in the near future that I see remotely coming close to it, I do feel there are plenty of really good prospects that will be potential all-star caliber players currently in high school basketball.

Overall 2016 isn't going to happen any time soon. That is a one a decade type of situation. We saw it in 2007 with Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, Chandler Parsons, De'Andre Jordan and a host of other long time pros, and again in 2016, but that is far from the norm. There are a ton of very talented players, some of which will no doubt be all-stars in the future, but not the large swath of them we are seeing from this year's rookie class.

Josh Gershon, National Recruiting Analyst:

The best part about the 2016 class is that from the moment those prospects stepped foot in high school, while there were a handful of guys who developed later in their career than others, it was a clearly special group.

Even if players like Markelle Fultz and Jonathan Isaac didn't join the mix until later, it was always a group destined to be the next great crop of future NBA stars.

Unfortunately, we don't have that right now. There are several players with very high upsides who could certainly develop into very successful NBA players, but very few are prospects who are as far along as many of the 2016 guys at the same stage.

Alabama fans shouldn't panic over Collin Sexton's uncertain status

QuoteEveryone learned Monday that Alabama had declared Sexton ineligible and petitioned the NCAA for his reinstatement. That's standard operating procedure when a student-athlete is accused of receiving impermissible benefits.

A statement from Alabama AD Greg Byrne said Sexton had not had his eligibility reinstated by the NCAA as of late Monday afternoon. Alabama, apparently caught by surprise by that development, had no choice but to hold him out of the exhibition game.

As Byrne's statement said, "We will continue to cooperate with the NCAA and work toward a resolution that results in Collin's timely reinstatement."

Key word: Timely.

What we don't know for sure is why Alabama declared Sexton ineligible, why it feels he already should've been reinstated but still will be or why the NCAA has yet to agree.

Alabama fans shouldn't panic over Collin Sexton's uncertain status

Alabama got some good news from the NCAA Thursday night regarding star freshman Collin Sexton.

While Sexton will have to sit out the Crimson Tide's season-opener against Memphis on Friday, the five-star point guard will be eligible to play beginning with Alabama's home opener against Lipscomb next Tuesday.

Quote"Collin Sexton will sit out of Friday's season opener against Memphis to serve a one-game suspension for a violation of NCAA rules," Tide athletic director Greg Byrne said in a statement. "He will be eligible for competition in the team's home opener on Tuesday versus Lipscomb. We appreciate the NCAA's efforts to reach a timely resolution of his eligibility."

Alabama had been in limbo regarding Sexton since Monday afternoon, when Tide officials found out hours before an exhibition game that the NCAA hadn't reinstated Sexton's eligibility.

Alabama held Sexton out of that exhibition game and was unsure as of earlier Thursday what Sexton's status would be moving forward.

Only losing Sexton for one game is huge for a Tide team ranked just outside the top-25 that enters this season expecting to take a big step forward in Year Three under Avery Johnson.

Inside Alabama freshman John Petty's record-breaking night

QuoteHuntsville native finished with 30 points on an Alabama record 10 3-pointers during the 104-67 win over Alabama A&M.

The 10 3s is tied for fourth-most in a single game in SEC history. Making it even more impressive is that Petty was 10 of 13. Ten made 3s. Only three misses.

"We asked him to start off faster in practice," coach Avery Johnson said. "Some guys are slow starters and you've got to get 'em going, but he started practice off fast and he was a lot more focused in practice yesterday. Probably one of his better practices."

It carried over to the game.

Petty made five 3s in the first half and found out from Riley Norris at halftime that he was nearing that previous 3-point record of eight that was shared by Norris and others.

Kentucky Basketball: Quade Green aimed to 'knock their head off' and did against ETSU

QuoteEast Tennessee State, its coach admitted afterward, came to Rupp Arena on Friday night believing it might catch seventh-ranked Kentucky sleeping after a near-miss Tuesday against Kansas. And it sure looked like the Buccaneers were right when they raced out to an 18-8 lead.

"Nah, nah, nah," Wildcats point guard Quade Green said. "They thought they caught us."

But then Green took over, swishing a corner 3-pointer, baseline jump shot, three from the top of the key and a pull-up, mid-range jumper in rapid succession. It was a blitz — 10 points in 144 seconds —

"He was the guy that gave them a spark when they needed it," ETSU coach Steve Forbes said.

Collin Sexton scores 40, but Alabama finishes loss to No. 14 Minnesota with just three players

QuoteAlabama men's basketball team rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to No. 14 Minnesota, but lost 89-84 to the Golden Gophers at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., Saturday afternoon.

Freshmen phenom Collin Sexton again starred for the Crimson Tide, scoring 40 points in the loss--31 of them in the second half.

While Sexton was the highlight of the game, another was most certainly the ejection of the entire Alabama bench during the second half.

Alex Reese, Lawson Shaffer, Donta Hall, Herb Jones, Daniel Giddens and Avery Johnson Jr. were all ejected at the 11:37 mark of the second half for rushing the floor.

Under the national radar, Kevin Knox is off to a solid start

QuoteOver at Alabama there's point guard Collin Sexton, averaging nearly 25 points, hitting almost 50 percent of his three shots, earning raves as probably the best freshman guard in the country.

So where does Kevin Knox, the best freshman on a Kentucky squad stacked with freshmen, fit into the national conversation about all these first-year wonders populating the current state of college hoops?

He has scored in double figures in all eight games, including three games where he's scored 20 or more. He has never scored fewer than 11 points. He's grabbed six or more rebounds in six of his eight games. He has been to the free-throw line four or more times in six of the eight, as well.

Through eight games, Knox leads the team in minutes per game at 35.2. He leads the Cats in scoring at 16.6 per game and in made three-pointers with 13. He's second in rebounds at 5.9 per game and second in steals with nine...

He's making 70.3 percent of his free-throw attempts, and also has 13 assists and five blocked shots.
