Money. Those schools that have it and spend it on football will always come out on top over all others over the long haul.
I don't want you to agree with me because you're weak. I want you to agree with me because you know I'm right.

Sorry but if this were the case, there is no way Notre Dame would have had as terrible season as they did. Do you see Navy maintaining prior prestige?

Do you happen to know what movie that was.  I do know that Lombardi was a hero the Bears.  And later in his career John Wayne and the Bear became close friends.  If what You say is true and all three of these great men are associated with this quote.  You right.  That does reek of tradition.  Let me know if You remember that movie... Thanks

Since  the BCS, no team has won the "BCS National Championship" twice.  However, that will change this year.  Regardless of who wins, it will be their second.

Thanks a lot Pioneer.  John Wayne was one of My favorite actors growing up.  And of course every kid in Alabama thought the " Bear " was the 2nd coming of christ.  And when You met Him You knew He was.  The " Duke " and the " Bear " where both larger than life to me.  Thanks again for Your help.  Merry Christmas

1997.  Or 33 years more recently than Arkansas.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

They split with Nebraska in '97,  but we all know that Nebraska would have killed Michigan that year.

Eh.  Ours is a split too, so let's not go that route.

True, but at least in our case the team we split with lost to a Texas team we beat.

Disagree on the list of so called royalty teams.  I don't consider Alabama, Tennessee or Georgia as a so called royalty team.  Of the three Georgia would be on top, but Alabama and Tennessee by no means deserve a special recognition over a large amount of other quality teams with tradition.  The tradition is in the eyes of the beholder to the point that fans become blind.  See Alabama and Notre Dame for an example.  Notre Dame has top recruiting classes, and great TV coverage because of their Catholic affiliation, but do less with more than any team in the country.  They are a joke, and Alabama is not much better.  I would pick LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, and USC being what I would consider to the top tier.  Alabama and Notre Dame are both fighting to suck the hind tit.

I agree.  Just look where texas is ranked at the start of every season no matter how sorry they are.

Wrong!  They have 12. They have the silver cups to prove it. However You want to argue it the record stays the same. Anybody can have rings made that say whatever they like. The cups are official.  Sour grapes can be hard to swallow. Even after 43 years.  True winners don't dwell on " Shoulda, coulda, woulda ".  They step up and keep on winning.  Read the book " The Lost Ring " by Kenneth Dunnavant.  It's an excellent book about being robbed of a championship.  And it's aftermath.  I'm not trying to give You a hard time.  Be we can't envy someone elses tradition because we haven't made the similar achievements. It borders on infintile behavior.  Good luck next season.  I really like your new coach.  He will make an amazing change in his new team.

What does a siver cup mean? Some of Bama's claims are silly.

No kiddin man.  We're embarrassed about it.  But we think things are beginning to look up. Recruiting is looking better than it has in a decade.  It looks like the Hogs a going to be big time in a couple of seasons too.  It's the waiting that kills Me...

It's a silver cup. And it's the National Championship Trophy. Maybe when the Hogs win a complete one for the first time in over 50 years You won't think it's so " silly " when You " claim " Yours. :)

Riff-raff?  Shame on you!  Hawgsillustrated is a pure joke.  That bunch were Houston Nutt pumpers of the worst kind and hardly exemplify "serious football discussion".

If you don't toe the party line there,  you are banned.  Therefore you can't truly have your own opinion on such a board.

Come on Albert.  Tell us if HawgzIll. banned You.  We could give You The Hogvillian Medal of Honor.  Nothing to be ashamed of there. Heck. You can tell paying audiences how You bravely fought the Nutt pumpers and eventually took one for the team and got the big ban all the while wearing Your medal proudly...lol

Alabama hasn't exactly torn it up since the 85 scholarship limit have they?  Since then they've had one MNC I think.  I think 'bama's a has-been.

No Alabama hasn't exactly "torn it up", but we do have 1 more NC than you guys.  Remember that tradition comes from years of winning and Bama has that in its history more than most other programs.  Not going to argue that recent years have not been the best, but that does not mean that the rich winning tradition should be nullified.

As  a good rule of thumb on the importance and relevance of tradition,  if your latest title is older than a current recruit, it has little significance.  Arkansas is already there, and Alabama is heading that way in a hurry.

I love my Razorbacks, but when I think of college football, one team pops into my head and that is Notre Dame. I can't believe he left them out. They may not have been a force recently, but to me, they are the most prestigious football school of all time.

Army goes there too
