I was not just talking about UT. But I had a coach tell me (not from Tennessee) that if every BB coach who has done what Pearl did was fired, Princeton would make the final four.

hoggerr

can someone post the picture in the comments. I cant view the link.

I think it is stupid as well, but I don't think you are allowed to put their names up in the lockers.  You can't do jerseys either, but they are probably fine if they don't have their names on the back.  I agree that this is piddly stuff, but I was surprised to see the rule.

From NCAA Bylaw 13.6.7.9 - Activities During Official Visit
"An institution may not arrange miscellaneous, personalized recruiting aids (e.g., personalized jerseys, personalized audio/video scoreboard presentations) and may not permit a prospective student-athlete to engage in any game-day simulations (e.g., running onto the field with the team during pregame introductions) during an official visit. Personalized recruiting aids include any decorative items and special additions to any location the prospective student-athlete will visit (e.g., hotel room, locker room, coach's office, conference room, arena) regardless of whether the items include the prospective student-athlete's name or picture.  (Adopted:  8/5/04, Revised: 5/14/05)"

Hmm, that's interesting.

Who took the picture?  The way people follow around recruits is creepy.

To this very day, Bush and USC would not have gotten in trouble if the "shafted agents" had not sued Bush.  The NCAA is so full of crap.  I think they themselves are paid off by the larger "in favor" institutions.

Pigneous Rock

Every recruit on facebook has a pic like this of him in uniform at every school he has visited. Soooo...I don't get the controversy. I can post some from Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss State, etc.....

kingofdequeen

its the SEC...

if you're not committing secondary violations, you are not trying.

My guess, someone who was also at the Catfish Hole...

The "everybody else does it" excuse may be true, but how many of those other schools have photo evidence on a public message board who boasts they are the largest Arkansas Razorback board?

All the recruits have to do is say they didn't know anything, the Cam defense.

Its not a violation anyways, every school does this.

Yep, and since the alleged "player name" is on the back of the jersey, they can use the Cam defense......

Can we go back to the comment about someone 'donkey punching' that dude's grandma and his resulting beatdown of whoever did the donkey punch?  I laughed out loud at this (and no, not because of an old person getting abused....just the fact that he said somebody 'donkey punched' someone).  The terminology was funny.  If someone donkey punched my elders, the cameras could still be rolling when I beat the crap out of the culprit.

Carry on though....fourthary violations what????

The Pulse

They've done this for years now. Nothing illegal about it. I remember one year they misspelled a recruits name. (Keni Kaufusi i think it was)

The true gameday atmosphere was only available to parents.  The kids were kept in the locker room while they simulated a halftime contest on the field for parents.  They had a large plexiglass box with swirling cash that a parent would step in and grab as much cash as they could in a minute.  The kids, however, knew nothing about this and the parents weren't allowed to tell the kids about it, either.  So... all is well!  ;)

I love it.  +1

This happens at every school on every recruiting weekend.

It was not a violation when PP/Walt had the Auburn guys there last year and the picture was all over Hogville.

At best, its a minor infraction that every school submits as a self-reporting violation at the end of the recruiting season. They say, "oops", and the NCAA goes "okay" and we reprise this again next year.

BTW, only a family member could produce that picture. Pretty reckless to post it everywhere. I'm not bagging on them for having it or for proudly sharing it with family/friends. I'm bagging on the friend or family member who thought it would be cool to post it on an imaging sharing service for all to see.
I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater. Looks like Petrino is finally learning how to recruit.

Not quite yet up to Auburn standards, however.

He doesn't have the players' agent in the picture.

ROFL, every school in the country does this. I have seen Alabama, LSU, OKlahoma, Florida, AUBURN, UGA and many others do this.

Auburn University is above this type of blatant cheatery.  Poor sportsmanship at its worst if you ask me.  I hope the NCAA hammers Arkansas for this afront to the rest of the fair minded SEC members.

This actually made me shoot coffee out of my nose.  I just barely made it over the trash can.  When I came back to the monitor and seen you were the one that wrote it, I had to close my office door to keep people from wondering what I was laughing about.  Keep up this kind of humor, and I might come to the conclusion you have purpose around here.

I don't think SEC Bylaws hold much meaning anymore.  I mean if they did, the Horned Frogs would be playing Oregon in about a month.

The real question is, If it is a recruiting violation, what are they gonna do about it? 30 for 30 baby!

How about this?

1. When the NCAA punishes Cam for his dad shopping him around - come deal with this.
2.  When the NCAA punishes Cam for taking 200K - come deal with this.
3.  When the can prove the "players knew about" the name placards - come deal with this.

NCAA is spineless.

Thuoght its only a violation if the jersey is personalized. Could be wrong though

Can't be too personalized.  # 45's jersey is tighter than a banana hammock.

I'm pretty sure they always do something like this...I remember Joe having pics of him in a jersey for his visit in January of 08....no name on the back

perfect logic....works with the NCAA every time no matter if the perk is an unnamed razorback jerseys  given to prospective recruits  or 180,000 dollars put forth in 3 separate payments given to the Heisaman trophy winner   +1

1.  Cecil Newton had to miss his son being awarded the Heisman Trophy this past Saturday.  I think we can all agree that is punishment enough for his trifling offense (caused by the manipulation of the bad men from MSU).
2.  Cam was cleared by the NCAA for taking the $200K from what I have seen.  Something about not knowing who the money came from for sure.
3.  Good point.  Most of those recruits didn't look like the "reading" types.

Really? Looks terrible? How about every school does it. That is the problem with the Internet, some boob who thinks he can write puts up a story without doing any specific checking, throws out an opinion and all of the sudden you have people responding.

Name plates on the locker is not permissable.

For now since I don't know who took the pic and posted it online, I'll allow them to get away with ignorance.  I won't excuse the staff in this instance.  I don't care that we do minor violations like this as nothing will happen.  We won't have to stop recruiting the athletes in the picture.  I do care that this pic was allowed to be taken.
