Wildcats' 103-100 win over North Carolina in the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday in Las Vegas was one of the best games college basketball has seen in quite sometime.

But it also again raised major concerns about Kentucky's ability to defend against elite competition.

In two games this season against the Tar Heels and UCLA, the Wildcats are giving up an average of 98.5 points.

Calipari's squad needed 47 points from freshman Malik Monk to beat North Carolina by three points and that has to make you wonder about how this team is going to win when shots aren't falling.

Calipari's elite teams at UMass, Memphis and Kentucky have always gotten into their opponents defensively and this team will need to follow suit if it's to reach a Final Four and compete for a national title.

Wildcats' next two games are both on the road, starting with Wednesday's trip to in-state rival Louisville at the KFC Yum Center.

Andy Kennedy suggested that there's no secret about how to play Kentucky: limit UK's transition offense. Duh.

"A lot of times, people will say, 'Man, if you can just get back and stop De'Aaron Fox in the open floor,'" Kennedy said. "Well, good luck with that.

"Of course, that makes a lot of sense."

But saying it in preparing a game plan and doing it in the game are two different things.

Twelve of UK's first 26 points came off the fast break.

"The tone of the game was set ... ," Kennedy said. "They were just running by us in transition early. Then we lost our composure."

UK's 20 points off fast breaks were one shy of the season high (21 against Arizona State).

In 2010, most SEC teams would grab John Wall's jersey and cede the offensive rebound opportunity.

Georgia basketball fell to South Carolina, 67-61, at Stegeman Coliseum to slide to 9-5. The loss put the Bulldogs' tournament chances into further doubt. Although, after so many losses to tournament-caliber teams during the out-of-conference portion of the schedule may have already made that unlikely.

Kentucky moved up one place to fifth and was followed by Baylor

Oregon is 11th followed by Louisville, Butler, Arizona, Notre Dame, Virginia, Wisconsin, Duke, Florida and Cincinnati.

The last five ranked teams are Purdue, Xavier, Saint Mary's, South Carolina and Maryland.

South Carolina and Maryland were both ranked earlier in the season. The Gamecocks (14-3) were ranked for four weeks reaching as high as No. 16
