The right call is to enforce the penalty which stops the clock until the ball is snapped, which, in a sense, is the same as a timeout.  The additional reason is you take a 3 yard gain and make it a 10 yard loss from original line of scrimmage.  That is pushing them back further 13 yards for a FG attempt and it also makes it 1st and 20.  Then you bet on your D and use your timeouts to force a real FG attempt instead of a chip shot extra point FG attempt.

Hindsight is 20/20 but the announcers called it immediately and Bert crapped the bed again.

In that situation in which a field goal beat you and you have two timeouts on the board. You call one time out. And then the other time out. Hoping that they will kick a field goal with about 1 minute left so you can go down and score that's the reason why.

Excpet accepting the penalty makes it still 1st down and with only 2 tos left they still run it diwn to the end and kick a fg.

Wasn't able to see  complete game, but that was so obvious and in clear view of ref. Hard to play DB against that.

I halfway understand not accepting it. Defense could've mysteriously showed up and stopped them. Accept the penalty and it gives them another down to run another 50 seconds off the clock.
