With respect to: "he wouldn't have resigned over just an affair in his personal life, so it must be escort for recruits" - I agree with this sentiment but FWIW he would have been fired if he did not resign per ESPN article:

"Bjork, speaking alongside Vitter in the news conference, called it a "sad" and "unexpected" day for Ole Miss. He said had Freeze not resigned, the school would have exercised a "moral turpitude" clause in Freeze's contract and fired him."

Freeze can still be deposed, but he's not likely to be friendly to Ole Miss now.  On the other hand, Ole Miss just found a few million it can throw Hootie's way to shut down that dep.

I disagree, he needs to keep from getting a show cause.  Anything he says negative about Ole Miss reflects on him.  He needs to clam up.

It doesn't matter. He's done as a D1 Head Coach. He'll be lucky if he's able to land a Head Coaching job at a D3 college.

Exactly how does that happen? More penalties to come. They are going to lose commits. I know, taking the "high road", right? Ha!

Yep, there were more infractions being added to the list as Freeze was resigning. That won't help Ole Miss.

It helps them in that they can show the NCAA the coach accused of 21 violations is no longer employed.

He didn't commit all 21 violations himself.

Ole Miss could have helped themselves more with the NCAA by shutting the whole football program down for a year.

So, why is it that this wasn't discovered during either the NCAA or the OM internal investigation?  Wouldn't one of the first things you do be to look at phone records?  Not much of an investigation without that is it?  They are saying these escorts were for him but it's a very short step to correlate these calls with recruiting weekends.  Surely, OM wouldn't try to hide that after this became public?  Would they?
Remember all the babes hanging around the OM recruits on official visits?

They don't have to pay Freeze a penny. They have plenty of money.

If the allegations are true,  that he used a University Phone to call an escort service, Razorback Fans,  of all people,  knows what it feels like to suddenly lose a good coach to a scandal.  I actually feel sorry for Ole Miss fans.

IDK providing hookers to recruits?  Maybe paying Tunsil's rent?  If he comes out and says, "oh the escort service was in place before I arrived."  He's still admitting to providing impermissible benefits.  There is absolutely no benefit to him talking.  This isn't like a criminal case where he can get a plea from the NCAA.  If it hurts Ole Miss, it hurts him.

It doesn't help, though.  He wasn't fired for his violations;  he was afforded the opportunity to resign over unrelated character flaws-- and keep in mind that Ole Miss had attached themselves to Freeze at the hip for NCAA purposes.

Its a bit like taking credit for cutting off a diseased finger, when the whole arm is gangrenous.   The only way this helps is the savings of the money they would have had to pay Freeze, that can go towards their impending monster settlement vs. Nutt.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

If he was hiring hookers for recruits, Ole Miss would set them up for the death penalty based on their announcement that this had nothing to do with NCAA Violations and all just Freeze's personal life.

Would be quite a risky play given how easy it is to prove.

The good news for us is that, with all the scandal, they aren't going to attract a name coach and may not be able to hire anyone worth a darn until after this season, ala the Smile time here.

The bad news is they still have the players they cheated to get and that, not Freeze's intelligence, was the only reason they were winning.

Not to mention in a year things will be calm and money talks. They will get a good coach.

I think he was referring to Petrino, and the scandal surrounding him leaving.

More than likely, ole Miss will wind up hiring some up and come HC from a small program looking to make a name for himself, and guide them through the sanctions and probation, stay for a little while, then wind up moving on and hire someone better later. Or Less Miles may be desperate enough to get back into coaching to take it.

It'll take longer than that. No head coach worth half of his salt will touch that job until the NCAA investigation is concluded and the sanctions are levied. My guess is the Interim HC will get the job by default for at least a couple of years if not longer.

Freeze calling an escort service is a lot different than calling a mistress IMHO. I dont think either is right, but this is a bigger deal than Nutt and Donna.

Nothing personal, but you don't sound like a trial lawyer.  I am and will explain this as simply as I can.  A show cause order is issued by a court ordering a person to appear before it and explain why the court shouldn't take some action, e.g., punishing the person ordered to appear for contempt of court.  The NCAA does not have the power to issue show cause orders.

Houston Nutt can absolutely take Hugh Freeze's deposition unless he settles first with Ole Miss.  The types of questions allowed in depositions are broader than they are at trial.  Generally speaking, any question reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissable evidence is allowed. The deposition itself, or parts of it, may be protected from public disclosure by agreement of the parties or order of the court, or both, but in a case of public interest like this one, a court may be reluctant to grant a broad protective order.  Hugh Freeze may invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer a question that could incriminate him, but the Fifth Amendment applies to crimes, not to NCAA violations.  Tom Mars isn't interested in Freeze's hookers.

I think Ole Miss is going to pay Nutt millions to avoid Freeze's dep and other discovery that could blow the doors off their cheating asses.
Life is too short for grudges and feuds.
