Capt. Hamm

Never served, but grew up a G.I. Brat. My dad was career Air Force. I was  Born in Taiwan 1963. Family moved around about every two years or so. We lived in Turkey for two years when I was young. Great life for a kid growing up. Two of my brothers also joined the Air Force. Thank you all for your service.

TXArcher

Started in 1983 with the Arkansas Air Guard in Hot Springs (223rd Combat Comm), finished up basic and tech school, then transferred to Garland, Tx, Dallas, TX, Meridian, MS, then back to Dallas and Garland, got out full time in 1999 and picked up a position with SWBT/SBC/AT&T, finished my Guard retirement in 20114, 21 years. Did two trips to Turkey, several to interesting parts of the US, Uphold Democracy (Haiti/Puerto Rico), Southern Watch (Saudi). Did a little time with the IG on inspections. Enjoyed it all, and miss it (except for the pay).

I'd do it again.

Man, you were in Mayport the same time I was. which means you were on board the Saratoga when the Liberty boat capsized.  That was terrible!!!!!

It was terrible. Just minutes before that we had a guy step off a liberty boat and as he did that a wave caught the liberty boat. He missed the barge and fell into the water and the liberty boat came back and crushed him between the boat and the barge.

I've always wondered if that was good duty? Exempt from details? Allowed to grow a beard? How much time in the air? Thanks.

Thanks for everyones Service to our Nation .
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

Were you with the 224th MI BN at Hunter AAF in the mid '90's?  Technically I was in the 224th in 96-97, but was part of a CMISE detachment attached to the 319th at Fort Bragg and never had any dealings with the 224 or got anywhere near Hunter.

Nope. 3rd MI at Camp Humphries, ROK, then mandatory reclass to Joint Stars. I got out shortly after.

It was losing my ride that turned me into the worst Private in the history of the Army.

USN  NAS on Guam and USS Ranger and hated every minute of it.
"Sweepers sweepers man your brooms." Yeah--they really said that. And they wanted me to ship over.

"Give the ship a good sweep down, both fore and aft. Sweep down all lower decks, ladder backs, and passageways. Now sweepers."  That is burned into my brain.
