Florida St and others have been recruiting him for a while.  I agree we need fast athletic Rush Ends but boy seems like we are late to the party.  I wonder how we change his direction to want to sign here?

If I had to pick, I'd say DE. Need speed off the edge. I think we're ok at DT.

We need an immediate contributor at DE, not sure we get one.

Personally, I think we do, they've just had him stuck at DT this year.

Maybe, he's 6' 2 1/2", which is generally considered too short for a DE, most want a 6'4"-6'6" guy at DE. I agree that he is a great talent, and I think they thought the quickest way to get him on the field, and make our defense the best, was to put him at DT this year. We seem to have moved guys all year on the d-line, which means we screwed up, lol.

No question something wasn't right.  I  realize he is a tad short, but we need someone who can be a threat to get to the QB consistently and I think he could do that on the outside.  I'm just an arm chair coach though, so...

Me too, I was very disappointed with our pass rush, stopping the run, LB fits, LB pass coverage.......you get the idea.

I foresee a change coming with the one who schemes up our pass rush.

If you are quick and strong enough to get to the QB, it doesn't matter if you at 6'6" or 6'1".

Well but it does help to have guys with long arms to block passes.

Ok, list all the DE's in the SEC 6'1".

Dwight Freeney was 6'1".

Chris Smith measured 6'1" at the combine.

Trey Flowers measured 6'2" at the combine.

Carl Lawson is 6'2" at Auburn.

Derek Barnett is listed at 6'3" at Tennessee, he may measure less than that at the combine as well.

Point is...you don't have to be 6'4"-6'6" to be a good SEC defensive end.

Nope, but the odds are way against you if you are.

jjdlc

It really depends.   A smaller guy may not be as good at blocking down passes as a bigger guy, but if he's quick enough and strong enough to get to the quarterback consistently it makes up for it. The thing is, we haven't been that good at knocking down passes or getting to the quarterback, so  I personally would rather have someone at least capable of getting to the quarterback.

You are measuring barefoot heights there.  Kids are putting the tallest cleats on and picking the highest boards in the old basketball gym to
Measure for their recruiting profiles.

Worth noting that Jonathan Marshall (6'4", 299) and Michael Taylor (6'3", 245) redshirted this year and should be in the mix next year at heavy end and a rush end, respectively.

Unfortunately, Michael Taylor didn't redshirt. He lost a year of Eligibility

hawgdavis

Didn't we just have a decomit from a DE and Richard said it was mutual.

Could this be the reason? Hope maybe

Can Marshall play end at 299lbs?
