Alabama guard Retin Obasohan has been busy working out for pro teams. But it remains unlikely Obasohan will be among the 60 players selected on Thursday night, which would make the 2016 NBA Draft the seventh in a row without a player from an Alabama college.

The most recent Alabama college player picked in the NBA Draft was Robert Vaden, taken out of UAB by the Charlotte Bobcats with the 54th choice in 2009.

Prospects who played at Alabama high schools have been drafted since Vaden -- K.J. McDaniels in 2014 and DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe in 2010.

Alabama

Richard Hendrix is the most recent Alabama player to be selected in the NBA Draft, going to the Golden State Warriors in the second round in 2008. Hendrix is among 41 Alabama players who have been drafted, although he never played in the NBA. The most recent Alabama draft pick to play in the NBA is Jermareo Davidson, who also was a second-round pick of the Warriors, but in 2007. The soonest an Alabama player has been drafted is with the No. 2 pick, where the Los Angeles Clippers took Antonio McDyess in 1995.

Auburn

Jamison Brewer is the most recent Auburn player to be selected in the NBA Draft, going to the Indianapolis Pacers in the second round in 2001. Brewer is among 29 Auburn players who have been selected in the NBA Draft. The soonest an Auburn player has been drafted is at No. 4, where the Pacers took Chuck Person in 1986 and the New Jersey Nets took Chris Morris in 1988. Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was the fifth player picked in the 1984 NBA Draft.

Ten former Kentucky players have earned a gold medal, with Anthony Davis capturing the most recent in 2012. Davis was a finalist this season, but removed his name from contention as he recovers from offseason surgery, as did John Wall.

The U.S. will start training for the Olympics in Las Vegas and will compete against the USA Men's Select Team, which features former Wildcats Devin Booker, Willie Cauley-Stein and Julius Randle.

LEGENDS: The Lost Year of Pistol Pete

Freshmen at LSU in the fall of 1966 were the lowest of the low. The upperclassmen forced them to buzz their heads, and the only cover for their bad haircuts were ill-fitting beanies, whose tiny bills, when upturned, revealed their last names sandwiched between the words "Dawg" and "Sir" – an accessory this particular Dawg had no interest in donning at the moment.

Instead, he slid on his sunglasses and leaned against his Volkswagen, parked at the top of the small hill overseeing the north side of Tiger Stadium, just across the street from the basketball offices in the Gym Armory. When the young lady was near enough, he leaned against the car and called out to her.

"Hello, Paula."

Shocked, she looked up.

"Oh, hi. Hi. Do I know you?"

Pulling his glasses back, he replied: "I'm Pete Maravich."

Her face remained unchanged.

"Aren't you a track star or something?" she asked, before continuing to class and leaving her would-be suitor in the dust...

Kentucky-driven 'Bluegrass Boys' have No. 1 seed in The Basketball Tournament

Bluegrass Boys, coached by former Kentucky star Derek Anderson, features a roster with seven other former UK players including Marquis Teague and Joe Crawford, along with former Louisville standout Chane Behanan, former Xavier star Jordan Crawford (Joe's brother), and former Tennessee standouts Scotty Hopson and Brian Williams. The team has earned the No. 1 seed in the Midwest region and will begin play July 16 at St. Xavier University in Chicago.

The Basketball Tournament, a 64-team competition which is now in its third year and boasts a $2 million winner-take-all prize.

Garrett Temple has agreed to a 3-year deal with Sacramento, sources told ESPN.

France outlasted the Canadians, 83-74, in the final of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament Sunday in the Philippines.

Canada was denied its first bid since 2000. Coincidentally, Canada Basketball General Manager Steve Nash was on that 2000 Canada team, which was eliminated from medal contention in the quarterfinals by France.

Canada played the Olympic Qualifying Tournament missing a host of key pieces, including Minnesota Timberwolves rookie guard Jamal Murray.

Long-viewed as a key piece of the future of the Canadian National Team, Murray played with the Senior National Team last summer at the Pan American Games in Toronto. He was often-brilliant,specifically in the semifinals when he roasted the United States for 22 points across the fourth quarter and overtime of a 111-108 win.

Murray was added to Canada's training camp roster for FIBA Americas, but could not play due to responsibilities at Kentucky. Canada blew a seven-point fourth quarter lead to Venezuela in a FIBA Americas semifinal last September, and had to go through qualifying.

Bluegrass Boys, a University of Kentucky alumni basketball team seeded No. 1 in The Basketball Tournament, lost its first-round game to a No. 16 seed and will not get a chance to collect on a $2 million prize

Former UK point guard Ramel Bradley led the short-handed Bluegrass Boys with 19 points and five rebounds in 32 minutes. With just seven players, fatigue was a factor down the stretch.

Former UK guard Kevin Galloway added 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Perry Stevenson had 11 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

Bluegrass Boys Coach and former Kentucky standout Derek Anderson emphasized a mismatch his team was not exploiting. Pointing to 5-foot-4 Underdawgs guard Anthony Sampson, who played in college at Freed-Hardman University, Anderson begged ex-Cat Joe Crawford to "post up the little guy."

Underdawgs General Manager Darius DeBerry said of the upset, "We wanted to put Jackson on the map. This means a lot for Jackson, Tenn."

DeMarre Carroll working to get healthy

Former Missouri standout has had to dial back his typical training regimen dramatically to give his body time to heal after a knee injury and other ailments limited him to 26 regular-season games in his first season after signing a four-year, $60 million contract with Toronto last offseason.

He'll still be on the move away from the court in July, having already flown to Las Vegas to take in part of the NBA's Summer League and with visits to Toronto, for a few public appearances, and Birmingham, Ala., for one of his Next Level Camps on the docket.

Carroll is also spending Monday through Wednesday of this week in Columbia hosting another one of those camps at Tolton. He's scheduled to do a meet-and-greet with fans at Shiloh Bar & Grill from 7-9 p.m. on Monday.

"They wanted me to first take a month off as soon as the season was over, let my knee get fully healed," Carroll said in a phone interview. "I just started rehab two weeks ago, and I'll start actually" playing "basketball probably in the beginning of August."

He added: "It's been very hard, because I'm used to just working. I'm a workhorse. Coming from playing with my uncle," Coach Mike Anderson, "that's all we preach."

Former Auburn University All-SEC guard K.T. Harrell is fresh off his first season as a professional after spending the year playing for Akhisar Belediye of the Turkish Basketball Second League in Manisa, Turkey.

Harrell admits that naturally, he was a bit nervous during his first few weeks overseas — being on his own in an unfamiliar environment so far away from home — and acknowledges that the transition was challenging.

"I accomplished a lot of the goals I set out to do being one of the top scorers [in my league] and being considered one of the best players on my team," Harrell said. "Some setbacks within the team led to our season not really going as well as we planned, but all in all, as an individual in my first year I think I did well for myself."

His nervousness didn't come without warrant. As of late, the country has been in the news for all the wrong reasons...

Harrell recently completed his second NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with the New Orleans Pelicans. Last year, he played in the event with the Philadelphia 76ers. Harrell said that although he didn't get quite as much playing time this time around, the experience was still one to remember.

With NBA teams focusing less on winning and more on the development of their top players during summer league play, sometimes, it's difficult for players like Harrell to get the visibility need to make a lasting impression on the coaches.

"The ideal situation is being able to play somewhere against the best competition," Harrell said. "As a competitor, you always want to play against the best. And of course the NBA is the highest level of competition, but if not in the NBA, I want to be able to play against some of the highest competition overseas and getting paid big money to do it."

No. 1 overall pick and former LSU star Ben Simmons was named first-team All-NBA Summer League on Monday. Former Arkansas forward Bobby Portis and former Tennessee guard Jordan McRae also made the first team.

Simmons averaged 12.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game for the Philadelphia 76ers. Portis, entering his second season with the Chicago Bulls, averaged 15.8 points and 9.3 rebounds. McRae, playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers was third in summer league in scoring with 24.3 points per game.

Former Kentucky Wildcat Tyler Ulis was named second-team All-NBA Summer League. The rookie point guard averaged 14.5 points with 6.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game...

Former Kentucky star DeMarcus Cousins is training with Team USA for the Olympic Games next month in Brazil and he's also living a dream that doesn't involve winning a gold medal.

Cousins has claimed Carmelo Anthony as his favorite player for years and now he's not only getting to play alongside Anthony, he's also learning from him off the court as Jason Jones from the Sacramento Bee reported.

"I enjoy being around him," Cousins told Jones. "He's got so so much experience in this game. It's well known that I've been a Melo fan my whole life. Just to be able to work with him daily is going to help me become a better player. I'm excited for it."

"I'm getting a chance to really get to know him as a person – forget about basketball," Anthony told the Sacramento Bee. "To be honest, I think there's a big misconception about DeMarcus. I think sometimes, it's situational things. Does he need to relax a little bit sometimes? I told him that. Over the years, I've seen him get better and better with that. We all kind of go through that."

Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski also says he has seen growth in Cousins since they last worked together. He credited Cousins for investing more on the defensive end and in the team as the Olympics approach.

Former Auburn star and NBA legend Charles Barkley will finally get his own TV show

Charles Barkley wants to bust up the echo chamber mentality that so often has people retreating to corners of the like-minded, where views are reinforced and ideas are distorted into angry, unexamined groupthink conclusions. Each week, Barkley will take on the rapidly calcifying positions around today's hot-button topics. He will seek out the sharpest and most varied viewpoints from today's cultural leaders and tastemakers. He will then challenge and probe those ideas, even trying them out on himself.

He retired from the game in 2000 and has been a part of the TNT studio team covering the NBA.

"We as Americans never discuss the issue of race in this country and how it impacts everything in our lives until something bad happens," Barkley said in the press release. "I see this project as a way to talk about race, class and cultural differences and challenge everyone's status quo."

Next Act: Giving Back

Brewer is back in Gainesville this week for his seventh annual Back 2 Back Youth Basketball camp, with proceeds in the name of the Corey Brewer Fight Diabetes Fund going toward UF's Shands Hospital.

Brewer is not the only one putting his name and NBA millions to good use. Former Gator center Joakim Noah has started the Noah's Arc Foundation, with programs designed in art and sports to help at-risk youth in urban communities. And former Gator forward Al Horford has been involved in a number of charities in his pro career, including Basketball Without Borders, the NBAs Fight Against Aids, the Make a Wish.

"It's always the right thing to do, to give back to the community," Brewer said. "For me, I love to do camps, I come in here in Gainesville, I do a camp at home in Portland, Tenn., you have to give back. We're all very blessed, just to have the opportunity to be able to give back is very important."

For Brewer, the diabetes cause is personal. Both of his parents were diagnosed with diabetes when he was young. His father passed away from complications due to diabetes.

"It's a cause that hits home to me," Brewer said. "It's very important."

Brewer, who turned 30 last March, is entering his 10th NBA and third with the Houston Rockets. He's looking forward to playing in new coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo system.

"It suits me a lot better," Brewer said. "Last year was a struggle for me, once Coach (Kevin) McHale got fired we kinda slowed it down. So now I feel like, it will be a good to play a lot faster with Coach D'Antoni."

Brewer, who averaged 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds last season, is transitioning from second or third scoring option into a veteran leadership role with the Rockets.

Thirty Mile Zone: DeAndre Jordan, DeMarcus "Boogie" Cousins, DeMar Derozan and possibly 3 other players went out on the town Wednesday night in Rio and strolled into Termas Monte Carlo ... which Rolling Stone called "one of the high end brothels in Rio."

A source close to the team tells us the players got the standard line, so they assumed it was kosher. The source said, "They realized it wasn't the right place for them and immediately left."

As for what happened inside, the players were only seen hanging at the bar. Multiple sources tell us they bought booze ... nothing more.

Bowers, a former Auburn forward, signed a contract Wednesday with Yalova, which plays in the Turkish Basketball League.

A junior college transfer, Bowers averaged 10.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game last season. In 2014-15, he averaged 12.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per contest, respectively. Bowers finished second in the SEC in rebounds per game both seasons.

He ended his two-year career with the Tigers recording 28 double-doubles.
